This Year's Model Updates:

An all-new diesel engine option makes its debut for the 2005 Jeep Liberty. Exterior appearance changes this year include a new front fascia, grille, foglamps, fender flares and body side moldings. Interior upgrades include relocated power window switches, new instrument panel cluster graphics and trim bezels and improved seat comfort. The Renegade model gets a flatter hood, taller grille, off-road foglamps and taillamp guards, as well as functional rock rails and four skid plates. A new six-speed manual transmission replaces last year's five-speed unit.

Pros:
  • Extremely capable off-road, creative interior design, economical diesel engine option, still a Jeep at heart.
Cons:
  • Gas engines are rather thirsty at the pump, not as "carlike" on the street as most of its competitors, less cargo space than some of its competitors.

  • hesitation at 1200rpm - 2005 Jeep Liberty

i experienced a hesitation from new at 12-1500rpm in every gear, dealer thought i was a cronic complainer. i spent 35 years as a dealer mechanic and knew i had a problem. finally a service bulletin showed up to reprogram the computer and problem solved. i really like the car and feel it is a good value. it serves all my needs and is really a jeep.

I was first drawn to the jeep because they have a great rep for being dependable, stylish, and a vehicle that will retain its value very well. I drive about 30,000 miles every year and I was wanting an suv that would withstand alot of mileage. When I checked out used jeeps on the internet and in the paper, I kept finding ones with well over 100k on them and even quite a bit with 200k. More so than with any other make.

i love this vehicle. I paid cash for it and its the best vehicle I have ever purchased. It drives greatk you can hardly tell when you go over bumps in the road or train tracks. It gets good gas mileage. I can tell exactly how many miles I have left till empty as well as telling how much air pressure is in the tires and the XM radio is the best. I would recommend this vehicle to anyone.

  • Sharp SUV - just bought - 2005 Jeep Liberty

Considered Ford Escape, Toyota RAV4, Land Rover Freelander, but Liberty was the right price and IMHO the real SUV of the bunch. The Liberty doors shut with a perfect thunk, the noise level is right (hey it isnt supposed to be a limo), and for $21K its the sharpest vehicle out there. Highway cruising is nice and quiet, luggage capacity is fine for most of us. I just bought it, so have no info on reliability, but initial build quality seems very good -- no initial problems. I live in San Diego so bought the 2WD, hoping to save some weight/gas. Well see how it goes. So far, really happy with how it drives.

I just got it this past week so I am still learning more about it. I really like the ride. I traded in my 2003 Mustang GT because I wanted something a bit bigger. Its kind of better on gas than the V8 was ... thats for sure!

  • Fun on and off - 2005 Jeep Liberty

I have a family of 4, but wanted to take off road trips as well as having a car for my day to day driving. The Liberty is the perfect SUV to take the family out on Friday night, and hit the trails on Saturday. I have been on 2 Jeep Jamborees, and I now go to Haspen Acres in Indiana as a way to get the most out of my Jeep. Last winter, I pulled a FedEx truck out of a ditch he had slid into. Im sure there are better complete off road vehicles, and better on road performance cars, but for the perfect balance of both, the Liberty is a great choice.

Fun to drive. Outstanding 4X4. Outstanding fuel mileage. 22 mpg town. 28 highway.

As fuel prices started to rise I took the Liberty 2.8 CRD for a spin; after the test ride I traded my 2002 Renegade in for it. My last Liberty saved me from serious injury when I hit a deer head on at 60MPH and only did cosmetic damage to it. The diesel Jeep has as much power as the 6 cylinder. I average about 24 miles a gallon in mixed driving and it is one of the most fun cars I have ever owned. Im 64" and it is a little tight but I have driven it all over the east coast with my wife and 3 kids. I am a law enforcement officer and I have to be able to get to work under any conditions and the Liberty has done that for me. The Jeep is a real 4WD and gets the job done.

I upgraded to the 2005 Jeep Liberty Limited from a 2000 Toyota Corolla. The Liberty sits high and is very comfortable to drive. It came with a nifty little cargo shelf that has dividers in the top portion. The only downside of this is that you cant use the cargo cover with it. Its one or the other.

I have never wanted an SUV of any type, but I love my Jeep Liberty. Her name is Libby... ha. The interior design is like that of a luxury car. She looks like Herbie the Love Bug all grown up. Its a fun and reliable vehicle.
