Overview & Reviews
An all-new diesel engine option makes its debut for the 2005 Jeep Liberty. Exterior appearance changes this year include a new front fascia, grille, foglamps, fender flares and body side moldings. Interior upgrades include relocated power window switches, new instrument panel cluster graphics and trim bezels and improved seat comfort. The Renegade model gets a flatter hood, taller grille, off-road foglamps and taillamp guards, as well as functional rock rails and four skid plates. A new six-speed manual transmission replaces last year's five-speed unit.
- Extremely capable off-road, creative interior design, economical diesel engine option, still a Jeep at heart.
- Gas engines are rather thirsty at the pump, not as "carlike" on the street as most of its competitors, less cargo space than some of its competitors.

2005 loaded Liberty Limited - 2005 Jeep Liberty
By rbinatlanta - September 26 - 12:46 pmSo far, its a great vehicle. My first Jeep and its a better pick in this class than my 2001 Mazda Tribute. Sold build, classy interior (nice grayish leather, great steering wheel controls, overall good quality materials). Front driver and passenger foot room could be larger - not much room to stretch for the passenger, but comfortable nonetheless. Couldnt believe I was driving a Jeep. Comfortable ride on both highway and secondary roads and plenty of power. Road noise was acceptable, too, not at all like the really loud, annoying Tribute. Good visibility.

Beauty and the Beast - 2005 Jeep Liberty
By John G. Saittis - September 25 - 5:50 pmI have been driving SUVs since the 70s. Under the hood of this beauty is an inline diesel beast with a turbo with no lag, hesitation or vibration. The torque it produces gives it the strength of a small V-8 and a towing capacity of 5000 lbs. Add to that a range of around 500 miles per tank and Jeeps trail rating. I rate it as close to or at military specs for off road performance. Control and stability are first rate. I have added a light bar, brush guard, and winch. After all these years I am again in love with an SUV.

Great vehicle! - 2005 Jeep Liberty
By dust2dust34 - September 2 - 7:50 pmBought this Liberty in 2008 used and with around 45,000 miles on it. For the last four years, I had absolutely nothing wrong with it other than some recalls and brakes. Had to replace the roaters because of previous owner (boo). Drives just the way I would expect a Jeep to. Its compact and easy and has a lot of get up and go (not a great every day car though - more Jeep than commuter car). Recently have had to replace the transmission cooler lines, front drive shaft and had a leak in the head gasket but considering what Ive gotten out of so far, Im not terribly concerned and I expect to get many more years out of this Jeep. Great buy for me and will keep for a long time!

unhappy sound check - 2005 Jeep Liberty
By j jacome - August 11 - 12:20 pmThe Jeep is nice to ride. Its the radio that is the Bad one! I had to replace it 4 times; the first time was because the CDs got stuck and the other 3 times was because the units cut off/on with an explosive noise. i have called Chrysler and all the say is we are not responsible for this. and they will not upgrade unless I pay for it! It is a brand new car, I shouldnt have to be paying for upgrades in a radio that since the beginning was defective. Its a 2005 and it should be upgraded for the future.

Jeep 2005 Ltd (3.7L) - 2005 Jeep Liberty
By Mel G. - June 18 - 3:00 pmGreat vehicle for running around locally in all terrains. Sensational handling. You must stay alert when driving long distances as vehicle needs constant steering. Gas mileage for weight could be better. No driver interior thoughtfulness when designed. No place for storage other than small glovebox, no place for coins. Cargo area for its size is very good with the fold down seats. Gas gauge should be on right side of dash because you cannot see it as it sits behind steering wheel. Also after rainfall, I notice water under the rear door when I open it.

Jeep Liberty Limited CRD - blown engine - 2005 Jeep Liberty
By winter2 - June 12 - 3:37 amBought my CRD brand new. Fairly reliable and occasionally quirky. Good highway economy at 30-31 MPG. During a recent trip, the #1 connecting rod disintegrated and sent shrapnel throughout the engine at 77,594 miles. Have a case setup with Chrysler and waiting to hear if they will fix it. The diesel tech at the dealer where it is and the engineer at Chrysler he spoke to had never heard of this diesel blowing up like this.

Watch out for your engine! - 2005 Jeep Liberty
By hollinsiam - January 5 - 5:12 pmI have a 2005 Jeep Liberty Sport. It has given me minor problems since I purchased in 2005. I only have 87000 miles on it and I need to have a cylinder replaced. I was told not to put another penny into it unless I wanted to replace the engine. My mechanic says he has seen this on several Libertys. I have kept up with its maintenance and given it the TLC that it needs - well I thought I did. What a rip off! No more Jeeps for me!

I love my Jeep Liberty! - 2005 Jeep Liberty
By Melanie - December 2 - 11:50 pmThis is a great vehicle. Its not as big as other SUVs. Perfect for a small family. I know in a couples of years I will be trading it in on another one.
