This Year's Model Updates:

A new five-speed automatic tranny provides a second overdrive ratio, resulting in greater fuel economy and reduced NVH in models equipped with the 4.7-liter V8. Chrome front tow hooks are now included if you get the skid plate group on the Limited model, while the Laredo model offers a Special Appearance Group package with 17-inch, five-spoke aluminum wheels, colored metallic front fascia and body cladding, body color license brow and liftgate handle, fog lamps, body side stripe, and leather seats. A hydraulically driven engine-cooling fan improves fuel economy on the 4.7-liter V8 and a quarter-turn fuel cap improves efficiency at the gas station. Limiteds get an AM/FM stereo with cassette and CD player as standard equipment, along with new "Euro-style" gathered leather seats as optional. The Trailer Tow Group now includes an underdash connector to make plugging in aftermarket trailer wiring harnesses a snap. Finally, child seat tethor anchors improve the Grand Cherokee's family-friendly nature while a LEV-compliant 4.7-liter V8 makes this Jeep more earth-friendly.

Pros:
  • Powerful 4.7-liter V8, all-terrain capability, roomy comfort for four.
Cons:
  • Quadra Drive whine, mushy seats detract from long-haul comfort, spotty reliability.

I purchased my JGC even after reading all the reviews that are listed here on this site. I did the smart thing, and asked current Jeep owners personally. Sure, there may be problems, but other than the CAM shaft transformer and problems with my stereo (which where all fixed under a few hours with the warrenty I purchased), it has been a fantastic car, comfortable drive, and a good investment. I drive through creek beds and fields often for fishing trips (no problems). But more improtantly, my grandmother is able to get in an out of my JGC with ease. It high enough off the ground so she doesnt have to struggle. Those who have complained w/ reviews, what do you hope to accomplish?

Had a few problems like other new cars. Rotars replaced twice, steering wheel leather slip and was replaced, sluggish start which was electronically adjusted, grinding noise when turning in reverse, part replaced, heated driver seat not heating so it was replaced. The dealership was very accomodating and made it all OK. I love my Jeep, feel safe and havent minded my trips to the shop. I am more than likely going to keep it since it is a lease and up in October. But Might get a 2004!

It seems that there are allot of people out there that love to hate this Jeep, but I must say that it has thoroughly impressed me. I have taken it across the entire north western half of the country and back in the dead of winter and couldnt have felt more confident traveling in this vehicle. With the Quadra-Drive AWD system, 4.7 V8, and heated seats its almost too easy! 20 MPG overall doesnt hurt, either. Handling/roadholding has also impressed me versus the Land Cruiser and older Range Rover SUVs that I have driven in the past. Reliability has been great thus far, with an easy to work on underhood layout.

I would never have shown up for this unless my Dad had bought a 300 and had a great experience. Well, yes the front discs have been replaced - no problem. I hit an 8 point buck with it when it was 2 months old - 7k damage but it did not even spill my coffee. Repairs by dealership were absolutely to as new. I love the motor sound of the V8. The stereo makes supurb music. The gas mileage is +2 over a V6 Explorer. All features are well thought out and work!! I have towed and it is immpecable towing. I live in bad weather and it is unfaltering in snow and ice.

This is my second jeep grand cherokee and I have not ever had a problem mechanically or otherwise.....My first one had over 70,000 miles when I traded it for the new one and it was never in the shop. This one has over 40,000 and it too has never been in the shop.

  • this is a great SUV - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I have owned the 2001 GC Limited V8 4.7 for over a year and not one problem. If you want good gas mileage, then dont buy an SUV. This car handles great, super pick up in the mountains, and is a very comfortable ride. There is plenty of room in front and back seats. Besides the usual maintenance, it has never been in the shop. It looks great and drives equally as well. I would buy it again.

  • 2nd Grand Cherokee - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This is the 2nd Grand Cherokee with my first being a 1996. I am extremely happy with the purchase I made. I like the new styling of the later models (WJs) and I find the Quadra- Trac II system to be very effective. The interior is very comfortable (Im 64") and I find even the standard options to be very good.

The JGC with 4.7 V8 is fun to drive, around town and on the highway, it is rated to tow up to 6500 pounds with towing package, I tow a 4500 pound boat with ease, much easier than with my Ford Explorer. My wife drives it daily and loves it, itÂ’s not too large in traffic and parking lots and she likes the performance. The JGC has been reliable, the only problem it has been to the dealer for repair for was to have the front rotors and calipers replaced at no charge as part of a TSB. Its a JEEP!!!

2nd Grand Cherokee that I have purchased. This has been an overall great vehicle. I had 1 TBS item taken care of under warranty and I had to replace the front pads at 33,000 miles.
