Overview & Reviews
A new five-speed automatic tranny provides a second overdrive ratio, resulting in greater fuel economy and reduced NVH in models equipped with the 4.7-liter V8. Chrome front tow hooks are now included if you get the skid plate group on the Limited model, while the Laredo model offers a Special Appearance Group package with 17-inch, five-spoke aluminum wheels, colored metallic front fascia and body cladding, body color license brow and liftgate handle, fog lamps, body side stripe, and leather seats. A hydraulically driven engine-cooling fan improves fuel economy on the 4.7-liter V8 and a quarter-turn fuel cap improves efficiency at the gas station. Limiteds get an AM/FM stereo with cassette and CD player as standard equipment, along with new "Euro-style" gathered leather seats as optional. The Trailer Tow Group now includes an underdash connector to make plugging in aftermarket trailer wiring harnesses a snap. Finally, child seat tethor anchors improve the Grand Cherokee's family-friendly nature while a LEV-compliant 4.7-liter V8 makes this Jeep more earth-friendly.
- Powerful 4.7-liter V8, all-terrain capability, roomy comfort for four.
- Quadra Drive whine, mushy seats detract from long-haul comfort, spotty reliability.

King of SUVs - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By 2 Jeep Guy - July 8 - 10:00 amThe Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo is the one SUV that all the competitors fear. It has tremendous off road capability. I have taken it on beach sand with heavy ruts and loose drifting sand. No problem at all. It can handle anything. Try that with the fake SUVs put out by the competitors. Who knows more about four wheel drive than Jeep? My wife drives this one, and she absolutely loves it. (She owns Ford stock, but we bought this new. We also have a Liberty).

My Second Cherokee - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Joe D - February 1 - 1:10 pmThis is my second 4WD Jeep Cherokee. I bought because I had such a good experience with my 1991 (which had over 250k miles on it when I sold it). My 2001 has 90k miles on it and, other then normal maintenance (I change the oil regularly every 3k miles) it has been a great vehicle for me. I plan to keep it for another 5 yrs and will likely replace it with another Jeep.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Karon - January 24 - 2:00 amThis is our fifth Jeep Cherokee or Grand Cherokee. We have found the vehicles to be very dependable. We have driven on long trips through the Arizona desert in August. We have driven in the cold Nebraska winters. They perform wonderfully in all situations.

Fourth Jeep - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Jeeper - December 31 - 2:00 amJeeps have been our primary vehicle since 1996. I wish we had discovered Jeeps sooner. We take road trips in comfort (desert, mountain, Mexico), go to off road events several times a year, drive it around town and commute to work. Now we have QuadraDrive which allows us to drive in deeper snow, sleet and ice. When we go skiing, this Jeep is like a goat for getting to the slopes and out of the parking lot. There is nothing close the excellent price/performance of this vehicle. I will never be without one again.

Second Time Around - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By The Jeepster - September 29 - 10:00 amWe purchased our second Jeep in Sept. of this year having owned our first (90 Cherokee Pioneer) for 11 years and 200,000 miles. Our new 2001 GC Laredo has performed flawlessly for the first 10,000 miles. Compared to our fisrt, it has a much smoother ride and a much more comfortable interior. We are very happy we decided to buy another Jeep.

I absolutely love my Jeep Grand Cherokee - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Caldo - July 31 - 10:00 amI have owned it for 25,000 and have NOT have any problems. The body is tight, and the suspesion allows it to drive over anything. I took if offroad on Pismo Beach a few times. Other 4x4s were either getting stuck or drivers had to get out and lower the tire pressure to move. Not the Jeep.

Jeep Grand Cherokee- Hi Country - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Jack McG - March 25 - 2:00 amThe Grand Cherokee has been a wonderful vehicle. It has had zero manufacturing flaws, despite being a totally loaded vehicle. The 4WD is unstoppable. We have the Hi Country package which has an inch more ground clearance. This is not a fake SUV its the real thing. A nice plus is Jeep paint. I have never see a post Chrysler purchase Jeep with rust damage (except wher there is serious body damage).

Great Experience - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By david - February 19 - 12:10 amI looked to Consumer Reports for a report on this "new" style Jeep. At first their reports were very good. Later, they rated this vehicle as "stay away from car!" How absolutely wrong Consumer Reports are about this car. My Jeep has been the very best car I have ever owned. I love driving it to this day. We have had the following problems: drivers side front window motor. Thats it. Car has 105,000 miles on it. Ive never had a car with that many miles on it. In a word - Great Car!
