This Year's Model Updates:

A new five-speed automatic tranny provides a second overdrive ratio, resulting in greater fuel economy and reduced NVH in models equipped with the 4.7-liter V8. Chrome front tow hooks are now included if you get the skid plate group on the Limited model, while the Laredo model offers a Special Appearance Group package with 17-inch, five-spoke aluminum wheels, colored metallic front fascia and body cladding, body color license brow and liftgate handle, fog lamps, body side stripe, and leather seats. A hydraulically driven engine-cooling fan improves fuel economy on the 4.7-liter V8 and a quarter-turn fuel cap improves efficiency at the gas station. Limiteds get an AM/FM stereo with cassette and CD player as standard equipment, along with new "Euro-style" gathered leather seats as optional. The Trailer Tow Group now includes an underdash connector to make plugging in aftermarket trailer wiring harnesses a snap. Finally, child seat tethor anchors improve the Grand Cherokee's family-friendly nature while a LEV-compliant 4.7-liter V8 makes this Jeep more earth-friendly.

Pros:
  • Powerful 4.7-liter V8, all-terrain capability, roomy comfort for four.
Cons:
  • Quadra Drive whine, mushy seats detract from long-haul comfort, spotty reliability.

  • Good, not great. - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

We bought our 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee in 2003. I think at the time it had about 40k miles on it. Like many others, we’ve had to have had do to more-than-routine maintenance on the brakes; however, I must be fair and let you know that we drive in the mountains of NC pretty much on a daily basis. We researched the absolute heck out of cars before deciding on the JGC. My wife’s last car was a 1995 Honda Passport which absolutely about did us in in terms of maintenance (our mechanics put 4, I repeat, 4 engines in that car before it was fixed). Anyways, after doing much research, we found that the Jeep in-line 6 has one of the best reputations out there in terms of reliability, so we went wi

This is the 3rd Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited Ive purchased. The only reason Ive bought three is that I like to update the Jeep every so often. I had a 1993, 1998, and now a 2001. Before I bought my 1st & 2nd Jeep, I test-drove pretty much every SUV available. By far, the Jeeps reliability and comfort are the main reasons why I will continue to update my Jeep with another Jeep. My other car is a BMW and if I could only have one, it would be the Jeep Gr Ch LTD. It has all the options I wanted and the price was right. Its a great SUV.

Have owned this model Jeep since 2005 and have had the usual maintenance problems others have talked about. The rotor trouble is easily fixed by installing a reputable brand brake rotor - not one made by Chrysler. Have the same front rotors for the past 7 years with no problem. Accelerates like a sports car and fuel consump is 18/24. Otherwise usual maintenance only. In 2007 the front end of my Jeep was hit and completely run over by a Semi while it was parked at a store. $3300 in body damage only. Mechanic said nothing to worry about, Its a Jeep. Thing runs like it just drove off the showroom floor. For me, its a keeper.

I bought this Jeep used in Aug 04. It was a leased vehicle. Everything has been working perfectly, and given the 8 cylinder engine Im impressed with the mileage. The only problem that still exists with this style Jeep is the power window track mechanism. Just like in my old 85 Jeep it broke around 50,000 miles. You think theyd have this problem fixed by now.

This is my second Grande Cherokee after my 96, which I put 110,000 miles on. This is the most comfortable, driver friendly, quiet and still performs. I have had zero problems with it, except it seems to attract a lot of attention when spotted. It is black with the Chrome 17 inch rims and is truly gorgeous.

This is an all around great car. It has a V8 and drives great. The leather seats are comfortable, the moon roof is great and everything is awesome. I have had no problems. The limited looks great. I love the body style.

This truck will take anything you can throw at it. It has amazing seats and design in my 2001 JGC 60th anniversary. I have used this truck for everything from off-road to sunday drives. I have recently installed halos, a new sound system, LED fog lights, a cold-air intake, and a high-output chip to make this vehicle roar and not once has it not met my standards. People used to tell me "Its a Jeep thing" and I completely get it now. This truck is more than capable off-road and can still dust most trucks on the road.

Vehicle has 139,000 highway miles and running well. Great car, comfortable on trips, mileage 19 @ 75 mph, 22.5 @ 62 with 4.7 V-8. Engine is bulletproof. Regular service and no repair except for drivers window assemble breaking twice (expensive to repair, and engine computer just recently ($700.00). I just bought a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee because of my excellent experience with this one.
