This Year's Model Updates:

For 2004, the Grand Cherokee gets a factory-installed DVD navigation system integrated into the radio. Columbia, Freedom and Special Edition trims are also new for 2004. All of these models incorporate subtle cosmetic touches and equipment upgrades. Additionally, each Columbia Edition Jeep comes with a complimentary Columbia parka.

Pros:
  • Powerful 4.7-liter V8, all-terrain capability, roomy comfort for four.
Cons:
  • Noisy and unrefined, questionable reliability, trucklike on-road handling.

  • Traded my Baby on Saturday 7/18/2009 - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Only complaint, right arm rest got a dip worn into it from my elbow from so much driving. Didnt get off road as much as I wanted, but when I did, it got me there and back in great style. The only time it didnt start, was the day I traded it. ($600 repair) I was exceptionally pleased with how it got me through heavy snows in PA, stuck with the road in heavy rain, easy maneuvering, great sound system. But tended to feel cramped with a family of four, loaded for vacation. Open road, got 23 MPG...in DC traffic, just 13 MPG. Right now, its being prepped for re-sale. This Jeep was fun to camp with, and for day-fishing trips.

The handling and ride of the vehicle is excellent. My previous car was a Buick LeSabre and the Cherokee is just as comfortable. The cabin is very roomy and everything is laid out pretty well.

The ride is absoultly smooth just like riding on air. It takes the bumps very well. So far it is a sound car...

I had the 04 JGC 4.0 Spec. Ed. for 3 yrs and put 75K on it. Recently traded it in with 115,000K on it (b/c of nagging husband) for an 07 JGC and have been sick about it ever since. I have no negative comments about this car and will probably never love a vehicle as much as this one. It had all the bells and whistles, smokey gray in color with dark leather. Loved the overall appearance, design/features, and the way the 4.0 ran. (getting rid of the 4.0 was a big mistake Jeep!) I ran this thing hard and only repair was replace water pump at over 100K. Avg. 18 mpg and the 4WD rocked. Had a tick in engine, was told lifters going bad but never left me sitting along the road and i miss it everyday.

I work for a Jeep dealership, so I was well informed about the Grand Cherokees, and I am not disappointed at all. My previous cars were a camaro and a dodge ram, and I am so glad I finally have a Grand Cherokee. The seats are so much more comfortable than the previous two vehicles, and the ride feel is inbetween a car and truck feel - and coming out of a truck, its a huge improvement. I love that even the base models have so many standard option.. I cant live without keyless entry! I wish the I6 had more power(I just came out of a V8..so I may just be spoiled), much it is certainly enough for everyday driving.

  • Best Jeep yet - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This is my second Jeep and by far the best. This is the best SUV I ever drove. I so far have found no faults with this Jeep except the fuel mileage, it could be better. I still get 23 on the highway and 17 in town which is not bad for a v8.

  • I would buy another - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This is my 2nd GC, 1st was a 99 Laredo with 6 cyl. This one is a 04 Limited loaded, inferno red. It has all the features, tow package, pwr pedals, nav system, automatic lights, tire pressure monitor, heated seats, climate control, and matching full size spare. I burn midgrade gas in the H.O. engine and it does fine. I get 15 mpg around town and on the road 22mpg, not the greatest but expected from a 4X4 and H.O. engine. I have had it for 14 months and nothing has broken yet. I tow a boat 4500# and get about 10mpg when towing. Tows great. The size of the GC makes for easy parking in a downtown parking garage compared to some of the large SUVs.

I have had several different suvs in the past. I must say that this has been my favorite. This is the second grand cherokee i have had. My other one was a 2002 the only reason i traded it was that the lease was up. I love the handling, and the comfort. I put alot of miles on my vehicle so it is nice to have a safe and reliable vehicle. So far i have put 6000 miles on this one and i have had no problems.Love the jeep
