This Year's Model Updates:

For 2004, the Grand Cherokee gets a factory-installed DVD navigation system integrated into the radio. Columbia, Freedom and Special Edition trims are also new for 2004. All of these models incorporate subtle cosmetic touches and equipment upgrades. Additionally, each Columbia Edition Jeep comes with a complimentary Columbia parka.

Pros:
  • Powerful 4.7-liter V8, all-terrain capability, roomy comfort for four.
Cons:
  • Noisy and unrefined, questionable reliability, trucklike on-road handling.

I purchased a Demo with less than 6K on the speedometer. The transmission failed within 1ooo miles of my purchase. The Dealer repaired the auto, but, is this something that should (can) happen this early in a cars existence?

This car is great. Good part is its subtle design changes through the years and the older models still look new. Family member has a navigator the seats in the Jeep are far more comfortable !

I bought my Jeep from my dad after driving it around for awhile. Now after a year of ownership I can say I love this vehicle. It now has 106,000 miles and I still average 18.9 mpg (even with the optional 245 width tires). This has been an incredibly reliable vehicle and is extremely comfortable on long road trips. The 4.0 litre straight 6 (with K&N filter) gives decent power. Oil consumption between oil changes is barely noticable. I will probably never sell this vehicle. I like the exterior styling - it has a good rugged look. The suspension is tough and does its job well off road.

This is the best car in the world I love cars but none have worked as great as all the others have problems and waste too much money on gas. I love my ride!!!!!!!!!!

Great SUV! The H.O. motor is fun and reliable. The car is great for someone who wants an around town SUV but knows that they can take it off road to. Car acts just as good if not better when off the road. The H.O. motor is also good to have for trailers. Overall a great car.

  • I finally got it! - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Ive been searching for the right SUV for almost a year and finally decided on the Overland. It is a magnificent vehicle both inside and out. I got every option except the navigation and am happy with everything. Although I have only had it for a few weeks I am very impressed.

Hey, until Mercedes really takes over, this is the best of the Jeep bunch. I am very encouraged that DCM will get there but I dont know how soon. In the meantime we in the US get downgraded Mercedes for less than what I would have expected. For those of you coming off lease, you have a great opportunity in the next year or two for "lease loyalty" good treatment for technology that may be new in a Jeep name but very well healed overall

  • Always something broken on this jeep - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

All I did was pay to repair this thing. Faulty radiator, brake calipers, two engine fans, ignition coil, camshaft sensor, wiring harness, engine computer, engine oil cap broke off and oil had to be put in through the dipstick shaft, power window motors, bad adhesive on insulation on all the doors led to many wet seats after rainy nights. And my personal favorite, the drivers seat became a rocking chair after becoming completely detached from the track. This car was always broken. Not to mention the terrible gas mileage, which I would have been fine with if it were not for the constant cost of repairs. It ended up costing me more money to repair it than it did to buy it in the first place.

So far with only 3000 miles, no problems to report. This is my 4th Jeep, 2nd Grand Cherokee, all with the excellent 4.0L inline 6. Best Engine in the Chrysler lineup since they stopped making the slant 6. Plenty of horsepower and the right combination of engine/transmission. I just wish it got better mileage. I have yet to get the advertised mileage of 16/21...Im averaging 14-15. Maybe it will get better as it breaks in.

With close to 20000 miles not a single problem. The car handles great, fun to drive and is great on trips. The head room is very good this is from someone who is 63", much more than the 4Runner. The price for the options is much better than the explorer or 4Runner. We bought the Jeep after Ford bought back our lemon Escape. We could not be happier.
