Overview & Reviews
A new five-speed automatic tranny provides a second overdrive ratio, resulting in greater fuel economy and reduced NVH in models equipped with the 4.7-liter V8. Chrome front tow hooks are now included if you get the skid plate group on the Limited model, while the Laredo model offers a Special Appearance Group package with 17-inch, five-spoke aluminum wheels, colored metallic front fascia and body cladding, body color license brow and liftgate handle, fog lamps, body side stripe, and leather seats. A hydraulically driven engine-cooling fan improves fuel economy on the 4.7-liter V8 and a quarter-turn fuel cap improves efficiency at the gas station. Limiteds get an AM/FM stereo with cassette and CD player as standard equipment, along with new "Euro-style" gathered leather seats as optional. The Trailer Tow Group now includes an underdash connector to make plugging in aftermarket trailer wiring harnesses a snap. Finally, child seat tethor anchors improve the Grand Cherokee's family-friendly nature while a LEV-compliant 4.7-liter V8 makes this Jeep more earth-friendly.
- Powerful 4.7-liter V8, all-terrain capability, roomy comfort for four.
- Quadra Drive whine, mushy seats detract from long-haul comfort, spotty reliability.

2001 Jeep grand cherokee 4.7 - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By djhjeep - August 16 - 11:09 amIve had my jeep from 2005 and got it with 150k on it I now have 256k jeep is still running great but did not get there easily. I had the computer go a couple of years ago and did nt know what was wrong until I brought to the dealer and the dealer told me it would be a couple of grand to fix for a new computer eventually I found a shop to put a used one in and the vehicle was fixed. Other than that the engine and tranny is still running strong but I have a small knock and I had another mechanic tell that the head need to be replaced. Simple fix at advance auto $30 bottle to seal that actually worked great. The Jeep is like a tank through bad weather of the NE no stopping it

so far ,so good - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By shepherds2 - July 3 - 9:00 amWe have had a few problems, but overall very good luck with this vehicle. 123,000 miles on the car. Break rotors warped and replaced 3 times. Chrysler finally paid for a really good set of slotted rotors (class action suit) and we have had no problems since. A few lights have burned out and a seat heater went out. Overall very pleased with the SUV. Love the smooth, tiny, but powerful V8 engine.

Great Experience - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Jim Bolton - June 26 - 10:00 amMy 2001 Limited is great. The exterior styling is sharp while the interior quality is exceptional. Ive owned 28 vehicles since I started driving and this is one of the best vehicles that I have owned. And no...my previous fleet did not include Gremlins, Pintos or Ygos! My Jeep experience has ranked up there with my Infiniti and Lexus experiences.

great jeep - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By gies - June 14 - 2:00 am28000 miles and only one problem. The heated seat on the driver side doesnt work and I have yet to take it to the dealer for repairs under the warranty. I have the selectmatic transmission that I have not seen on any other Jeep Grand Cherokees, but I am glad I do. It gives me the option of 2 wheel or 4 wheel drive. It appears others have had trouble with the Quadramatic Trans.

By drew haught - May 17 - 3:06 amOverall the vehicle has been good and reliable. The biggest issues are the shocks and struts went bad at 40000 miles. The ride of the vehicle and cabin are wonderful.

Reliable Grand - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By 01traildriver - June 6 - 1:52 amI purchased my 2001 in 2002 with 13,000 miles on it. The only problem I had with it was the brake rotors warping, and the slotted rotors cured that. I took my Grand to numerous states for Jeep Jamborees and it performed great ! People at the Jamborees were amazed at the capability of the Grand. I had an ARB steel bull bumper, Old Man Emu shocks and springs, and a K&N filter system on it. It was comfortable on the street and trails. I traded it in 2008 when it had over 250,000 miles on it due to an incurable death wobble with the front axle.
