This Year's Model Updates:

A new five-speed automatic tranny provides a second overdrive ratio, resulting in greater fuel economy and reduced NVH in models equipped with the 4.7-liter V8. Chrome front tow hooks are now included if you get the skid plate group on the Limited model, while the Laredo model offers a Special Appearance Group package with 17-inch, five-spoke aluminum wheels, colored metallic front fascia and body cladding, body color license brow and liftgate handle, fog lamps, body side stripe, and leather seats. A hydraulically driven engine-cooling fan improves fuel economy on the 4.7-liter V8 and a quarter-turn fuel cap improves efficiency at the gas station. Limiteds get an AM/FM stereo with cassette and CD player as standard equipment, along with new "Euro-style" gathered leather seats as optional. The Trailer Tow Group now includes an underdash connector to make plugging in aftermarket trailer wiring harnesses a snap. Finally, child seat tethor anchors improve the Grand Cherokee's family-friendly nature while a LEV-compliant 4.7-liter V8 makes this Jeep more earth-friendly.

Pros:
  • Powerful 4.7-liter V8, all-terrain capability, roomy comfort for four.
Cons:
  • Quadra Drive whine, mushy seats detract from long-haul comfort, spotty reliability.

Changed battery, brakes and tires. This vehicle has been very solid car all around. Great in snow. Could get better fuel economy. Tows my 4500# trailer with straight six.

  • Nothing like a Jeep! - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I love my 2001 Laredo w/4WD! Have owned 4WDs in the past but none performed as well offroad as the Jeep. Ive found myself in some sticky situations since buying it but my Jeep has always saved me. While not the most luxurious of vehicles inside, youd be hard-pressed to find an SUV made more SOLIDLY than a Jeep. Here in the south, I put it into P/T 4WD while driving in rainstorms & have never even slid, let alone hydroplane; always a problem w/prev cars. The folding seats & roomy cargo area let me fit just about anything in the rear easily. None of my prev SUVs made me feel more safe or secure than this one. We plan to always own a Jeep from now on!

I HAVE TWO GRAND CHEROKEES. MY WIFE AND I ENJOY EACH OF THEM. HOWEVER THE BRAKE ROTOR PROBLEM IS THE BIG DRAW BACK. THE MANUFACTURER DOES ACKNOWLEDGE IT IS A PROBLEM AND IS ONLY ISOLATED TO A CERTAIN NUMBER. BOTH OF MY JEEPS HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM AND CHANCES ARE YOU DO TOO. MAKE YOUR REPORTS AND DOT LET THEM PUSH US AROUND.

I purchase my Jeep new in 2001. I have less than 30,000 miles on it, and since I took possession I have had the suv in the shop 7 times for major problems (same ones over and over). The steering column replaced twice, rotors replaced, fuel pump replaced and best of all it goes into the shop again tommorrow for the same problems. I did my homework and gave the dealership a list of the service bullentins I pulled of the internet the last time when I was told since I was a female I didnt know what I was talking about when explaining my issues. Sounds like since I have a lease, I need to just turn my keys in and let them have the headache.

Very quick & powerful V-8 engine. Handles well in all conditions. Very comfortable leather seats. Had to get one software update to correct the transmission slamming into / out of gear at low speeds. The update fixed it. The drivers side heated seat is broken but still under warranty. The rear cup holder sucks and gets stuck all the time.
