Overview & Reviews
A new five-speed automatic tranny provides a second overdrive ratio, resulting in greater fuel economy and reduced NVH in models equipped with the 4.7-liter V8. Chrome front tow hooks are now included if you get the skid plate group on the Limited model, while the Laredo model offers a Special Appearance Group package with 17-inch, five-spoke aluminum wheels, colored metallic front fascia and body cladding, body color license brow and liftgate handle, fog lamps, body side stripe, and leather seats. A hydraulically driven engine-cooling fan improves fuel economy on the 4.7-liter V8 and a quarter-turn fuel cap improves efficiency at the gas station. Limiteds get an AM/FM stereo with cassette and CD player as standard equipment, along with new "Euro-style" gathered leather seats as optional. The Trailer Tow Group now includes an underdash connector to make plugging in aftermarket trailer wiring harnesses a snap. Finally, child seat tethor anchors improve the Grand Cherokee's family-friendly nature while a LEV-compliant 4.7-liter V8 makes this Jeep more earth-friendly.
- Powerful 4.7-liter V8, all-terrain capability, roomy comfort for four.
- Quadra Drive whine, mushy seats detract from long-haul comfort, spotty reliability.

Dont do It! - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Mike M - October 11 - 10:16 pmThis car is by far the worst quality new car I have ever owned. Over a three and one half year ownership, I have had more problems with this car than my 1964 Austin Healy Sprite that I owned in 1966. Most of the problems occurred after the warranty period elapsed. However, there were a host of annoying problems even during the warranty period. With only 47k miles on it, I have replaced a rear window wiper motor (twice), been unable to get my memory seats to work (ever), replace a heating system blower motor, replaced a split power steering line, completely replaced all brake elements, replaced the radiator and associated parts, replaced all four shock absorbers, etc.

this is a great SUV - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By its a jeep thing - September 17 - 10:00 amI have owned the 2001 GC Limited V8 4.7 for over a year and not one problem. If you want good gas mileage, then dont buy an SUV. This car handles great, super pick up in the mountains, and is a very comfortable ride. There is plenty of room in front and back seats. Besides the usual maintenance, it has never been in the shop. It looks great and drives equally as well. I would buy it again.

2nd Grand Cherokee - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By jim09901 - September 10 - 2:00 amThis is the 2nd Grand Cherokee with my first being a 1996. I am extremely happy with the purchase I made. I like the new styling of the later models (WJs) and I find the Quadra- Trac II system to be very effective. The interior is very comfortable (Im 64") and I find even the standard options to be very good.

Unfounded Fears? - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By STE - August 24 - 10:00 amHeard lots of negatives beforehand, but with the exception of the front rotors (repaired once, then replaced 2nd time), I havent had any problems whatsoever. And, my local Jeep guy made sure that the rotor work was covered by my warranty, even though it was past the 12k-mile brake warranty. Other than that, its been a pleasure to own!

honest assessment - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By gadwg - July 6 - 4:33 amHas been very reliable with 116k on it now and runs like new, but has been well maintained. Like others, have had problems with the brakes, but have replaced only once although the problem was extreme. Get great gas mileage for an suv, averaging 18-20 mpg with 4.0L and 4x4. Very capable off-road. Has been used heavily for towing and other truck responsibilities. Overall, not bad. Certainly better than my other domestic brand experiences.

Jeep GC 4.7L All Terrain Sports Car - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Timtjt - July 6 - 2:00 amThe JGC with 4.7 V8 is fun to drive, around town and on the highway, it is rated to tow up to 6500 pounds with towing package, I tow a 4500 pound boat with ease, much easier than with my Ford Explorer. My wife drives it daily and loves it, itÂ’s not too large in traffic and parking lots and she likes the performance. The JGC has been reliable, the only problem it has been to the dealer for repair for was to have the front rotors and calipers replaced at no charge as part of a TSB. Its a JEEP!!!

2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 2WD 4dr - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By JH - May 18 - 5:53 amPurchased new in 2001. What a mistake, I should have gone for the 4-Runner. I have had to replaced all rotors, calipers and pads twice within the first 25K mi. Three window regulators so far at a whopping $225 each. The reverse gears went out of the transmission. Had to have it rebuilt at a cost of $1800. Idle control value went bad at 75K. Almost forgot, had the have the leaking plastic radiator replaced also.
