This Year's Model Updates:

A new five-speed automatic tranny provides a second overdrive ratio, resulting in greater fuel economy and reduced NVH in models equipped with the 4.7-liter V8. Chrome front tow hooks are now included if you get the skid plate group on the Limited model, while the Laredo model offers a Special Appearance Group package with 17-inch, five-spoke aluminum wheels, colored metallic front fascia and body cladding, body color license brow and liftgate handle, fog lamps, body side stripe, and leather seats. A hydraulically driven engine-cooling fan improves fuel economy on the 4.7-liter V8 and a quarter-turn fuel cap improves efficiency at the gas station. Limiteds get an AM/FM stereo with cassette and CD player as standard equipment, along with new "Euro-style" gathered leather seats as optional. The Trailer Tow Group now includes an underdash connector to make plugging in aftermarket trailer wiring harnesses a snap. Finally, child seat tethor anchors improve the Grand Cherokee's family-friendly nature while a LEV-compliant 4.7-liter V8 makes this Jeep more earth-friendly.

Pros:
  • Powerful 4.7-liter V8, all-terrain capability, roomy comfort for four.
Cons:
  • Quadra Drive whine, mushy seats detract from long-haul comfort, spotty reliability.

A Comfortable ride, no doubt. However, lots of issues. Feels unstable a lot of times while driving. Maybe because it is a 2WD and not a 4WD. Already had rotors fixed. Poor fuel efficiency.

  • A $35K piece of junk - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Nothing but electrical problems with Jeeps (I owned 3 and each time I was convinced by the dealer I had an anomalous car). Year 2: driver seat electric stops working. Year 2: door panel comes loose and cannot be attached. Year 3: many tranny problems, leakages, starting problems. $6000 in total cost. Year 4: extreme cracking of seat leather (LOWEST GRADE!), leakage of tranny fluids, loud airplane noise from tranny. Year 5: real electrical problems start: lights wont go out. 3 batteries dead, electric windows will not go up. I get about 170 miles out of 20 gallons, the car drives like a tank and with all the problems it is just garage parked at this point. ASK YOURSELF: $35k for this?

I would never have shown up for this unless my Dad had bought a 300 and had a great experience. Well, yes the front discs have been replaced - no problem. I hit an 8 point buck with it when it was 2 months old - 7k damage but it did not even spill my coffee. Repairs by dealership were absolutely to as new. I love the motor sound of the V8. The stereo makes supurb music. The gas mileage is +2 over a V6 Explorer. All features are well thought out and work!! I have towed and it is immpecable towing. I live in bad weather and it is unfaltering in snow and ice.

I cant say enough good things about my Jeep. I bought it used with 18,000 miles on it. I finally turned it in at 120,000 due to the age on the car gas prices creeping up to $4 a gallon. This jeep got about 18-19 avg. It was reliable and durable and comfortable. Fun to drive and looked good as well.

I bought this Jeep and have used it like a Jeep. I off road, carry friends and dogs, tow my boat, and load it up with cargo for a weekend with the guys up in Vermont. Overall, I love my Grand Cherokee, this is my 2nd one, the 1st being a 97. I just turned 100,000 on it and have had absolutely no drive train problems. It drive to NC frequently and the trip is always comfortable. The ride is great for a solid axle SUV, replace the shocks with Bilsteins for an even better ride.

Piece of crap. A/C went at 26K, the regional Chrysler/Jeep rep offered to pay half as a good will gesture. At 26K? Brakes went at 25K, same thing. Radio goes out at any given time. Had to replace seat warmer @ $400 at 45K. Mirrors will occasionaly reset themselves at weird angles when parked. I get in car - side mirrors are aimed at the ground. Rear end piece just went at 65K...yup, a real well built machine - NOT!!! I will NEVER buy a Jeep again.

This is my second jeep grand cherokee and I have not ever had a problem mechanically or otherwise.....My first one had over 70,000 miles when I traded it for the new one and it was never in the shop. This one has over 40,000 and it too has never been in the shop.

  • 60th Anniversary Edition - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I leased this vehicle new in 2001 with 6 miles on it. Liked it because it had two tone interior, rather than the one color (dark grey) fits all that most new cars use in the interior. Now has 57K with no major problems, other than brake rotors once at 30K, repaired under warranty, and leak in the sunroof, also repaired under warranty. Still looks as good as the day I got it, inside and out, and it has been left outside in the Northeast. Will be coming off lease in April and I plan to buy it. I dont like the looks of the 05 Grand Cherokee, but it does ride and handle better than the old model. The old Jeep has classic styling that Im afraid we will not see again.
