This Year's Model Updates:

A new five-speed automatic tranny provides a second overdrive ratio, resulting in greater fuel economy and reduced NVH in models equipped with the 4.7-liter V8. Chrome front tow hooks are now included if you get the skid plate group on the Limited model, while the Laredo model offers a Special Appearance Group package with 17-inch, five-spoke aluminum wheels, colored metallic front fascia and body cladding, body color license brow and liftgate handle, fog lamps, body side stripe, and leather seats. A hydraulically driven engine-cooling fan improves fuel economy on the 4.7-liter V8 and a quarter-turn fuel cap improves efficiency at the gas station. Limiteds get an AM/FM stereo with cassette and CD player as standard equipment, along with new "Euro-style" gathered leather seats as optional. The Trailer Tow Group now includes an underdash connector to make plugging in aftermarket trailer wiring harnesses a snap. Finally, child seat tethor anchors improve the Grand Cherokee's family-friendly nature while a LEV-compliant 4.7-liter V8 makes this Jeep more earth-friendly.

Pros:
  • Powerful 4.7-liter V8, all-terrain capability, roomy comfort for four.
Cons:
  • Quadra Drive whine, mushy seats detract from long-haul comfort, spotty reliability.

  • Second Time Around - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

We purchased our second Jeep in Sept. of this year having owned our first (90 Cherokee Pioneer) for 11 years and 200,000 miles. Our new 2001 GC Laredo has performed flawlessly for the first 10,000 miles. Compared to our fisrt, it has a much smoother ride and a much more comfortable interior. We are very happy we decided to buy another Jeep.

  • Reliable 4WD Un Reliable Brakes - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Great 4WD ability in the snow/ice and when I surf fish the beaches of North Carolina.I have helped several of the "so called SUVs" get un stuck. Most of the small street SUVs just cant handle the harsher off road conditions. The main flaw of the vehicle is its brakes. I had to turn or replace the front rotors 4 times in 40,000 miles only onced covered under warranty at the 11,000 mile mark.I suggest this vehicle for any one that needs a good 4 wheel drive.I would rate my vehicle as dependable. Only one mechanical failure beside the common brake problem which was quickly taken care of under warranty. (Trans sensor)

  • I absolutely love my Jeep Grand Cherokee - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I have owned it for 25,000 and have NOT have any problems. The body is tight, and the suspesion allows it to drive over anything. I took if offroad on Pismo Beach a few times. Other 4x4s were either getting stuck or drivers had to get out and lower the tire pressure to move. Not the Jeep.

  • Good Choice - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I bought the Jeep used with 18,000 miles. This is the fifth Jeep Cherokee I have owned, the second Grand Cherokee, and is the best. The interior fit and finish is exceptional; the car is very well appointed and rich in its presentation. I have had no repairs to date, with the mileage now at 64,000. It has been an excellent car. It gets approx. 16-18 MPG around the city, and 20-22 MPG on a straight highway trip.

  • 1998 Better than 2001 - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Enjoyed 98 which was quieter and more fuel efficient than 01.Rear end whine is most annoying on longer trips, fuel consumption for moderate type driving very bad at 12 mpg and brake problems are constant with this vehicle.Im affraid after 2 Jeeps Im off to look for an alternate.

  • Jeep Should be embarrassed - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Sad to say but my Jeep is the worst quality new car I have ever owned. Over a three and one half year of ownership the money just seems to bleed from my bank account. Most of the problems occurred after the warranty period elapsed. However, there were a host of annoying problems even during the warranty period. With only 54k miles on it, I have replaced the blender blower unit, the main electrical unit, A/C cooling problems, and have had 4 sets of brakes. I cannot begin to count the number of times this vehicle has spent time in the shop. Why cant the US make quality cars on par with Asia? Never again will I purchase a Jeep.

  • Jeep Grand Cherokee- Hi Country - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

The Grand Cherokee has been a wonderful vehicle. It has had zero manufacturing flaws, despite being a totally loaded vehicle. The 4WD is unstoppable. We have the Hi Country package which has an inch more ground clearance. This is not a fake SUV its the real thing. A nice plus is Jeep paint. I have never see a post Chrysler purchase Jeep with rust damage (except wher there is serious body damage).

  • Persistent and constant issues - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Since 05, had the following issues (85% highway driving): Radiator hose failed. Both front window regulators failed. Brakes failed - replaced rotors, calipers, everything. Rad Fan Control Relay failed. Radiator fan failed. Heater core failed. Engine hood struts failed (x2) Rear hatch window struts failed. Radio knob broken. Evap system failure. Headlamp lenses, after several polishes, just too pitted to restore. Had to replace. Had issue where dash lights were intermittently working - just terrible issue to deal with. Brake line failure - also terrible issue to deal with.

  • Great Experience - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I looked to Consumer Reports for a report on this "new" style Jeep. At first their reports were very good. Later, they rated this vehicle as "stay away from car!" How absolutely wrong Consumer Reports are about this car. My Jeep has been the very best car I have ever owned. I love driving it to this day. We have had the following problems: drivers side front window motor. Thats it. Car has 105,000 miles on it. Ive never had a car with that many miles on it. In a word - Great Car!

  • Im a satisfied customer - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I purchased my JGC even after reading all the reviews that are listed here on this site. I did the smart thing, and asked current Jeep owners personally. Sure, there may be problems, but other than the CAM shaft transformer and problems with my stereo (which where all fixed under a few hours with the warrenty I purchased), it has been a fantastic car, comfortable drive, and a good investment. I drive through creek beds and fields often for fishing trips (no problems). But more improtantly, my grandmother is able to get in an out of my JGC with ease. It high enough off the ground so she doesnt have to struggle. Those who have complained w/ reviews, what do you hope to accomplish?
