This Year's Model Updates:

A new five-speed automatic tranny provides a second overdrive ratio, resulting in greater fuel economy and reduced NVH in models equipped with the 4.7-liter V8. Chrome front tow hooks are now included if you get the skid plate group on the Limited model, while the Laredo model offers a Special Appearance Group package with 17-inch, five-spoke aluminum wheels, colored metallic front fascia and body cladding, body color license brow and liftgate handle, fog lamps, body side stripe, and leather seats. A hydraulically driven engine-cooling fan improves fuel economy on the 4.7-liter V8 and a quarter-turn fuel cap improves efficiency at the gas station. Limiteds get an AM/FM stereo with cassette and CD player as standard equipment, along with new "Euro-style" gathered leather seats as optional. The Trailer Tow Group now includes an underdash connector to make plugging in aftermarket trailer wiring harnesses a snap. Finally, child seat tethor anchors improve the Grand Cherokee's family-friendly nature while a LEV-compliant 4.7-liter V8 makes this Jeep more earth-friendly.

Pros:
  • Powerful 4.7-liter V8, all-terrain capability, roomy comfort for four.
Cons:
  • Quadra Drive whine, mushy seats detract from long-haul comfort, spotty reliability.

This is our fifth Jeep Cherokee or Grand Cherokee. We have found the vehicles to be very dependable. We have driven on long trips through the Arizona desert in August. We have driven in the cold Nebraska winters. They perform wonderfully in all situations.

Been in for warranty service 3 times now in the past 4 months, coolant leak, check engine light (O2 sensor), H2O pump. What next??? Handles poorly - Steering isnt very precise. I depend on my 4WD vehicles in Baja and right now I do not trust this one. I am looking at using it for a trade-in for a 4WD crew cab PU. What a shame!

Jeeps have been our primary vehicle since 1996. I wish we had discovered Jeeps sooner. We take road trips in comfort (desert, mountain, Mexico), go to off road events several times a year, drive it around town and commute to work. Now we have QuadraDrive which allows us to drive in deeper snow, sleet and ice. When we go skiing, this Jeep is like a goat for getting to the slopes and out of the parking lot. There is nothing close the excellent price/performance of this vehicle. I will never be without one again.

  • Love my Jeep - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This is the second Jeep Ive owned and I enjoy this vehicle more than my first. Inferno Red with chrome wheels really makes heads turn. Received many compliments. Love the V8 power. Interior layout is excellent. Controls easy to reach. Sound system cant be beat. Climate control system works well. Seats could use a little more bolstering. Ive had a few minor things go wrong but dealer has stood by extended warranty and fixed without question.

  • Junk - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I got one of the bad ones. I bought it new and its been nothing but problems. Numerous brake issues, driver window motor broke, steering column locked, seat heaters quit working, something is broken inside the dash so heat only comes out of the driver side of the car (cold air out the passenger side), oil pressure gauge malfunctions, check engine light periodically comes on for no reason and I just finished spending $500 for a new heater fan motor, heater module and wiring. On the next breakdown Im planning on parking it somewhere with the keys in it and the engine running, but I suspect that whoever steals it would bring it back after they realized what a piece of junk they had.

  • Need to improve several problems - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This car has several issues that they should recall. My particular problem has been with the power windows. First you hear a popping noise, then down your windows go and dont come back up until you get them fixed. Ive had to replace two at over $300. I also am having the brakes act up now as mentioned on previous reviews. I like the car in general but improvements need to be made.

  • Buyer Beware - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Where do I start... The front and rear differential seals have been replaced along with the seal around the oil pan. Suupossedly bad from the factory. Plus the control for the climate control went out after 3000 miles and did I mention that the sun roof leaks and they have replaced the headliner. Oh, and by the way the drivers side seat heater was replaced and now the passenger side is going out as well. So far this has all been under warranty but when its up this car is going to cost me a fortune. Dont just take my word for it, read the other reviews. Buyer beware unless you want to spend alot of time at the delears repair shop.

  • JEEPERS CREEPERS - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This vehicle has given me nothing but grief since I bought. I bought it brand new, and have continusly had to bring it into the shop for repairs.when you take it in shop, they will not provide you with a loaner vehicle. All my repairs for the most part were warranty covered. But I have had major problems with the brake system. And had replace my brakes 2 times a year, plus my rotors. I know I drive a lot, but this vehicle is suppose to be top quality. Its a car, its made to be driven, and it just. first place. I will never in my life ever buy a Jeep again. I make sure if anyone I know is even thinking about it, that they know what a POS this car is.
