This Year's Model Updates:

A new five-speed automatic tranny provides a second overdrive ratio, resulting in greater fuel economy and reduced NVH in models equipped with the 4.7-liter V8. Chrome front tow hooks are now included if you get the skid plate group on the Limited model, while the Laredo model offers a Special Appearance Group package with 17-inch, five-spoke aluminum wheels, colored metallic front fascia and body cladding, body color license brow and liftgate handle, fog lamps, body side stripe, and leather seats. A hydraulically driven engine-cooling fan improves fuel economy on the 4.7-liter V8 and a quarter-turn fuel cap improves efficiency at the gas station. Limiteds get an AM/FM stereo with cassette and CD player as standard equipment, along with new "Euro-style" gathered leather seats as optional. The Trailer Tow Group now includes an underdash connector to make plugging in aftermarket trailer wiring harnesses a snap. Finally, child seat tethor anchors improve the Grand Cherokee's family-friendly nature while a LEV-compliant 4.7-liter V8 makes this Jeep more earth-friendly.

Pros:
  • Powerful 4.7-liter V8, all-terrain capability, roomy comfort for four.
Cons:
  • Quadra Drive whine, mushy seats detract from long-haul comfort, spotty reliability.

  • Very enjoyable - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

We bought the vehicle used, 1 year old. It now has 65k miles on it and have had 2 problems up to date. I had to replace the driver side window regulator. Plastic piece broke. New piece made with metal. Recirc door for the a/c had to be fixed. New piece supposed to be an upgraded fix. Neither problem overly expensive.

  • JD Who? - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I dont know where JD Power gets their data, but other than needing a 4.7L vs. a 4.0L, this vehicle is really nice. Had a LED heated seat indicator burn out, fixed ASAP by the dealer. Normal brakes and tires, but otherwise, primo vehicle.

  • Caddy with 4x4 and a Mind of its Own - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I bought my JGC 4.7L Limited with 100k miles on it. Fell in love instantaneously with the plush leather seats and all of the luxury amenities. I put 60k miles on it and it nicked and dimed me the entire time. The car left me stranded numerous times, and had to replace many sensors. I was so broke repairing the essentials, before I knew it the dashboard lights were burned out, the heated seats broke, 2 windows motors went and the climate system was shot. Not to mention the car had a mind of its own, the memory seats would adjust to whatever it wanted, the car alarm would go off constantly, but the final straw was when the catalytic converter code came up. Miss her though.

  • Second Jeep... will buy a third! - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I bought my first Jeep in 1996. I liked it so much that I bought another one. My family liked my cars so much that my brother bought a 2000, and my dad just bought a 2005. I have heard that Jeeps have reliability issues, but at 71K I have only replaced tires, brakes, and a blower motor (within warranty). Jeeps have unparalleled off-road capability and the torque will beat just about any car on the road off the line. The car looks very classy inside and out. Definitely a head turner. I will drive this Jeep till the wheels fall off and then buy another one. I LOVE MY JEEP! p.s. definitely buy v8!

I love driving my Jeep, it is so much fun and so reliable! I drive in snow almost 7 months of the year and it handles great in the snow. It gets me through anything! I have recommended this vehicle to family members and friends and would recommend to anyone. I have not had any problems with it and I dont think that I ever will. It has been awesome!

  • GREAT JEEP LAREDO - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

There are so many mixed reviews on Jeep Grand Cherokees. We just bought a used 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo and love it. We had a Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited before this and it lasted us 10 years. It is a relaible car. Could not reccoment anything better! After reading all the commentary here, I beleive either you love or hate a Jeep. There is no in between.

  • nice ride - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

When I purchased this suv it was top-of-the line, nice. Can’t find leather interior like this anymore, impressive! Handles real nice towing our 20 pontoon fishing boat. Overall love this ride...but nowadays you have to think about gas. Getting 16 mpg. Would like to get better mileage.

  • 2001 Grand Cherokee Limited Limited - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This is a tight and reliable vehicle with an excellent drive drain history and highly recommended by auto repair shops for the least problems. Excellent 4X4 characteristics -- I use it in the Colorado Mountains all the time as I live at 9300 feet. The bumps in the road are hardly noticeable and handling is amazing.
