This Year's Model Updates:

Jaguar adds adaptive cruise control to the options list, and a six-speed automatic transmission is now standard on the V6 version -- the five-speed manual remains a no-cost option.

Pros:
  • Elegantly appointed interiors, solid all-around performance, classic British styling, full load of standard safety equipment.
Cons:
  • A few cheap interior bits, high price, fussy J-gate shifter.

This is my second S-Type. Had a 2001 and opted to end that lease early and get a new 2004. The styling of the car is the nicest on the road and the improvement of the 04 over the 01 are amazing. I loved the 01 but my wife didnt want to end the lease early to get into the 04....and then she drove it..and wow...we have trouble keeping it under 70 on the open road..handling wonderfully.....love the new dash/console over the 01 model

i purchased this vehicle in oct. of 02. i have so many complaints lets get started. this car is $47,500 to own, i am leasing it for 39 months for $639. When i first got the car i was very impressed.the GPS system is now a mental case who spits out my CDs, changes the radio stations and turns the radio/CD playeron. I often have trouble getting the car into drive, the shaftwont move, i push it beeps. after about 4-6 trys itgives and im off. the exceleration is great so is the handleing, but the gas in NYC is crazy and 18Mpg isnt to hott. i cant ever get the trunk open on the first try manualy nevermind with my trunk button on the key.

  • S-Type R is an incredible value - 2004 Jaguar S-Type

This car is just fantastic. I have owned five other Jags, and other than the Series I XKE of the 60s, this is a most amazing machine. The blend of performance and comfort if perfect. A drivers car, with room for the entire family. The transmission is excellent, and having an automatic makes it a great commuter. The effort of driving an M5 (without an automatic option) can be exhausting in heavy traffic, while on the phone, or with the kids. I love the retro and classic look of the S- Type design. This car is a gem.

  • Finally: Distinction! - 2004 Jaguar S-Type

At last, a car with truly unique style, excellent performance and a comparably reasonable price. After 12 years lounging in the top Lexus and Benz models (looking more generic every day) I couldnt be more pleased with the 4.2. Comments from public daily. The multi-adjust cockpit seating is virtually build-to-suit ... very comfortable. Exceptionally balanced handling.

The S-Jaguar turns heads when you are driving. However the ride is rough in comparison to our Lexus. You have to push the doors hard for them to shut. The contour seats looks good, but the edges of seats when getting in are hard. Once in and seated, the seats are comfortable. The headrest are also hard. The car was purchase on 31 Jul 04. We had an engine check light come on in Aug 04. They had to replace the gas tank. No other mechanical problems with the car. Service personnel are very friendly. Great styling.

  • COSTLY TO DRIVE - 2004 Jaguar S-Type

My Jag has had the tires replaced at 15,000 miles at a cost of $860.00 and a front end alignment at a cost of over $300.00. I had new brakes on at 22,000 and that included new front rotors. Now at 30,000 need new tires again because the tires are very loud and wearing out even though I have had them rotated on a regular basis. My car is eating tires and picks up road noise. Also, screws are falling out and the cover to fuses under passenger side glove box fell off and the sun glass holder has been replaced three times and it still wont stay closed. It has a surge in the engine that the dealer cant fix. The Jaguar decal on the front fell off (came unglued)

  • In and out of the shop constantly - 2004 Jaguar S-Type

This is a beautiful car. If it only ran as good as it looks. I had a 2001 S Type which was an excellent car. However, the reliability went south on this one. It has been in the shop many times - sometimes for weeks. Jaguar was not particularly responsive or compassionate about selling me a lemon. I wont buy another jaguar.

this vehicle is not only sleek looking but performs as well as it looks. the price is not to far out of line considering that you are purchasing a work of art. nothing else compares
