This Year's Model Updates:

Though it may not look like it, Isuzu has completely revised the Rodeo from top to bottom, giving it more modern styling, a user-friendly interior, more V6 power and added room for passengers and cargo.

Pros:
  • Silky V-6 engine. Stylish interior. Rugged exterior. Roomy rear seat.
Cons:
  • Disconnected steering. Lousy 4WD button placement.

  • Great vehicle for all purposes - 1998 Isuzu Rodeo

I can do anything in this truck. It looks good. Plenty of hwy power & pup. Climbs anything off-road, serious fun. Holds a ton of stuff. Pulls 3500 lb. trailer-load. Unfortunately, the alternator was undersized, so have had it rebuilt twice already. I like that its now actually smaller than many other SUV/crosses out there, which arent even really true 4WD. Gets 18-24 mpg. But, in the winter the mpg stinks, down to 14-18 with my studded snows in Colorado mtns. I dont understand why the resale is so low. Im the original owner, 11 years so far, 100K miles. Before this I had an 84 Trooper for 14 years which was also great, but gutless.

biggest repair was oil change in 82000 miles. runs great, will run at sustained speed over 100 all day long. would never consider another as a replacement. runs as good in 4WD as ford does in 2 WD

  • LOVE MY RODEO - 1998 Isuzu Rodeo

We bought our Rodeo as a third vehicle for our growing family. Although the Rodeo does not have as much room as our minivan its much sportier, handles better and the overall experience we enjoy with it is satisfying. I use to sell Rodeos a few years ago and felt great everytime I went on a test drive with its new owner. Our Rodeo has 68000 miles on it and the only problem I could begin to discuss is the paint issue. The overall rating more than makes up for the paint issue in my mind. Highly recommended by my family.

We have not had any problems with the vehicle at 83000 miles. The car is peppy and fun to drive. The interior is comfortable and looks good. I especially like the dash layout and how easy everything is to use. This is my favorite SUV on the road over anything else.

  • PRACTICAL-NOT PICKY - 1998 Isuzu Rodeo

I READ ALL THE REVIEWS OF THE RODEO AND SOMETIMES HAVE TO SHAKE MY HEAD AT THE COMMENTS THAT PEOPLE MAKE! I THINK A LOT DEPENDS ON HOW YOU DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE. 4WD DOES NOT MEAN 4 WHATEVER DRIVER! TAKE CARE OF YOUR VEHICLE AND IT WILL TAKE CARE OF YOU. LOVE THIS VEHICLE. THE LOOKS, THE PERFORMANCE-V6 HAS PLENTY OF POWER (BETTER THAN THAT KOREAN V6), THE RELIABILITY. HEY ITS NOT A BMW OR LEXUS CLASS SUV-BUT ITS NUMBER ONE FOR ME!

The Rodeo handles like a truck (go figure!) and is very fun to drive. Safety ratings are above average and repairs have been routine and minimal. The only drawback is the fuel economy... a problem inherent to most affordable SUVs.

My car seems to be a disaster magnet- people hit it, bump it, scratch it, a car I was parked next to even caught on fire and melted half of my Rodeo. No matter what happens, I get in the the car and it starts right up, quietly, every day. Even with 111000mi, the only thing I have had to replace was a $17 pulley!

This is my 2e Rodeo. I Am buying my 3ed right know. the first (93) Rodeo I Installed a tune up, one set of tires & brakes. I sold that car with org. clutch, batttery, muffler. So I thought I would try one more Rodeo . after two years the guy I sold it to called and said it was the best car he ever had. I have 82000 now (98)and I have installed tires and brakes @70000 thats all other than oil. Still have the org. clutch, battery, Ect. I have had a problem once with the ABS but thats it. Its great to buy a car and not have to have it worked on all the time. ( unlike a German car I had worked on every 2 months)
