This Year's Model Updates:

Though it may not look like it, Isuzu has completely revised the Rodeo from top to bottom, giving it more modern styling, a user-friendly interior, more V6 power and added room for passengers and cargo.

Pros:
  • Silky V-6 engine. Stylish interior. Rugged exterior. Roomy rear seat.
Cons:
  • Disconnected steering. Lousy 4WD button placement.

  • Rodeo no more - 1998 Isuzu Rodeo

Poor dealer service, poor follow up from regional rep - could not correct a performance problem after repeated trys. Missing consistently after 50K miles, clutch going out at 60K, three recalls so far. Dealer mechanic broke off PCV during recall timing belt change and then hid problem. I will never buy an Isuzu again.

We start with nine recalls, THEN fuel sending unit died, moonroof frozen open, CD player ate CDs (twice), brakes went, alternator went, EGR valve clogged (all this was in the first 60K miles), lousy service and about 3000 bucks worth of repairs in the past nine months (not including tires and battery). Incidentally, 30/60K and misc servicing was done yet no one noticed any problems. Seats are uncomfortable and if the tilt wheel is down you cannot see all the idiot lights, which is handy because this thing lights up like July 4th. Alas, it technically is not a lemon, but it should be!

  • Dont buy this vehicle - 1998 Isuzu Rodeo

This vehicle was a pleasure initially until I realized the extremely poor gas mileage it got, but could live with it. Just before the 5 year warranty was about to expire, the engine began burning about 1 to 2 liters of oil every 5000 kms. ISUZU Canada says this is acceptable and will not honor the warranty. This vehicle is noisy with squeaks, etc and if youre looking for a smooth riding vehicle, this isnt it. My suggestion is to avoid this like the plague and for the cost, buy a Honda!

  • BAD ENGINE! BEWARE! - 1998 Isuzu Rodeo

My Rodeo drove ok. Power not bad for a V6. But LOOKOUT when you get some mileage on it. At about 93,000 miles the engine started losing coolant. I could not see it leaking anywhere. I took it to the shop assuming the head gasket was leaking into the cylinder and burning there. If that was the problem, it would have been a $3000.00 dollar fix. The repair shop called with bad news. A head bolt broke in the block and could not be repaired. A second hand engine with 70,000 miles would have been a $5000.00 repair. After paying $3000.00 for AC work I decided not to fix it. When just out of warranty, the Isuzu rep did not replace my rusted out fog lamps. I DO NOT RECOMMEND BUYING ISUZU!
