  • Pretty good SUV for the money - 1999 Isuzu Rodeo

I have had only one re-occurring problem, a clunck in the rear end that need to be lubricated by the dealer every 2 oil changes besides that this SUV has been problem free since we purchased it. The leather seats are not very confortable for long drives but are OK for short distances.

This auto has been very dependable. Winter and Power buttons in undesirable place. Would like longer sun visors. Havent had any difficulties with this car. All in all, if I were to buy another SUV, Id consider another Rodeo.

My Rodeo performs well but seems to have a lot of minor little problems. The interior fell apart rather fast. Air vents broke, the console latch broke and doors in the cargo area warped rather fast. I have also had trouble keeping the front end aligned and as a result I have gone through three sets of tires in three years. When really pushing the engine up hill the engine "pings" even with premium gas. Which brings me to the biggest problem, the gas milage is really bad! But even with all of the little stuff that bugs me, I have enjoyed the car. It has been very reliable, goes great in the snow, and the ride is good too.

  • My perfect Mom Car - 1999 Isuzu Rodeo

I purchased a used 99 Rodeo just before I became a mom.....giving up my truck. Safety was the #1 factor, and love that it "Frame on Chassis" not unibody. Now with over 185,000 mile on it, it is still the most reliable vehicle Ive ever owned. As with the rest, the gas gadge went out...drop the tank and add a new one....and it was worth my sanity. For girls who love trucks, like to 4x4 in the snow, or have to haul a trailer, I wouldnt drive anything else. Was actually rear ended by a Chevy Surburban once, and the tire on the back absorbed both the impact and damage. I also drove it to the bodyshop. As all cars, alternator, starter, h20 pump replaced. 185,000 mile though...and counting.

  • why me? - 1999 Isuzu Rodeo

I was really happy with my Rodeo for the 1st 4 years, then it was downhill. The ABS module was replaced & right after, my fuel gage stopped working-something that is a $295 fix. The needle stays on "E" & the gas light never stops flashing (it started last August & I put black tape over it & use my tripodometer to know when I need to fill up). Now my AC stopped working & they want $1400 for a new compressor & $995 for some valve that goes with it. Lately my gas mileage has gone from about 20mpg to about 14mpg. We bought it hoping to have it for at least 10 years or more. Apparently Rodeos wait until the warranty is up to start falling apart on you.

  • Not Great just Good - 1999 Isuzu Rodeo

I have had my Rodeo for almost 4 years. I have read other reviews where people complain about vehicle not being reliable. However I have had no major problems with mine. My Rodeo has been very reliable. Only three complaints. First is the seat and headrests are very uncomfortable on long trips. The second is the number of recalls the vehicle has had. Lastly too rough of a ride.

  • Disappointed - 1999 Isuzu Rodeo

Seems to wear a lot worse than other vehicles Ive owned, at only 30,000 I had to replace the fuel sending unit as well as a number of lesser items to the tune of $700... replacement parts are much more expensive than similar vehicles and it seems to need to go into the shop for a few hundred dollars worth of work every few months... parts take longer than average to be obtained as well. We wont be keeping it long.

  • Was a good starter SUV - 1999 Isuzu Rodeo

Overall, I would say I am happy with my purchase. I bought it new in 99 and although the manifold cracked and muffler broke off (under warranty) and had a few recalls, the vehicle has been very reliable. Especially when I replaced the stock Goodyear tires. It was a deathtrap when it rained. Unfortunately, I have 81K miles and I am afraid its nearing the end. Gas millage is going south, gas gauge is on its way out, seat is breaking down, oil burning, and it was not designed for desert heat. I had some rubber pieces melt and/or break in the last year. The service guy told me years ago not to keep it over 60K miles, and I see why. Overall, it has served me well, but not built to last a long time.

  • Poor quality/worse company to deal with - 1999 Isuzu Rodeo
    By -

In a two month period I replaced 2 power window motors, stereo, (which quit working)1 front end part and a thermostat and radiator in hopes of resolving an overheating problem, which later was diagnosed as a blown head gasket. The truck only has 52,000 miles and still under the drive train warrenty-so I thought. I was denied the warranty for several reasons: 1) I didnt take the non warranty work to them. 2) They said I must have overheated it to the point of blowing the head gasket and would not confir with the shop I had the work done to verify that I was not negligent by driving while overheated. 3)They claim that Isuzus do not blow head gaskets. $1500

  • A real Love/Hate Relationship - 1999 Isuzu Rodeo
    By -

Have over 70k miles on my Rodeo in nearly 4 years and it has been a mixed experience. Love the acceleration, rugged looks, and generous cargo space. Hate the defects like broken gas gauge, faulty ABS indicator, and worst of all - DISASTROUS BRAKES. On wet or bumpy road surfaces in a quick stop, this truck is GUARANTEED to slide, twice causing rear- end collisions and many more close calls. Not safe so is now reduced to the status of a station car. Depreciation has been rapid also. Fast and fun, but in my view, not worth the risks.
