Nissan launched its upscale Infiniti division in 1989 with two unique models and a polarizing ad campaign. More than two decades later, Infiniti continues to blaze its own trail in pursuit of luxury, performance and style. The Infiniti G37 sport coupe, sedan and convertible are prime examples of this corporate philosophy. Blessed with a split personality, the rear-wheel-drive G37 will deliver you to work in luxury during the week and then clip apexes all weekend without breaking a sweat.
The list of luxury sport coupes and sedans is typically dominated by elite Teutonic nameplates. In readying the G37, Infiniti honed it on test circuits throughout Europe, including Germany's famed Nürburgring. This athletic chassis, along with the G's attractive sticker price, distinctive interior appointments and ample array of technology, makes it well prepared for battle in this class.
Used Infiniti G37 Models
The Infiniti G37 was first introduced as a coupe for 2008, with the convertible arriving the following year. Technically, the G37 sedan arrived for 2009 as well, but it was really the same vehicle as the second-generation G35 sedan that arrived for '07, albeit with a larger 3.7-liter V6. Confused yet? It gets worse. Used Infiniti G37 models are available in coupe, sedan or convertible body styles, with four possible trim levels: base, Journey, G37x and Sport 6MT. The convertible was only offered in base or Sport 6MT trim, though. For 2010, a special range-topping Anniversary model added features that included navigation, an upgraded Bose audio system, iPod connectivity and ventilated seats (for the convertible only).
In addition to the long list of standard features packaged with each trim level, several options, including the Anniversary add-ons were available à la carte. Adaptive cruise control will alleviate some fatigue on long trips, while the available Sport package (standard on the G37 Sport 6MT and optional on the G37 Journey) will rouse the interest of more aggressive drivers thanks to features like a limited-slip differential, a sport-tuned suspension and brakes, sport seats and bigger wheels.
A four-wheel active steer system (4WAS) was available for those obsessed with pushing the technological envelope, but reactions were mixed, with several drivers noting diminished steering feedback in vehicles equipped with 4WAS. It was eliminated after 2009. Stability control, front-seat side airbags and side curtain airbags can be found on all used Infiniti G37s, and a pre-collision preparation feature was optional.
During these years, the G37's 3.7-liter V6 produced a very healthy 330 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque, fed to either the rear wheels or all four (G37x). In base, Journey and G37x trims, the G37 came with a seven-speed automatic transmission featuring paddle shifters, while the Sport 6MT featured a six-speed manual. Both transmissions have their devotees, but the clutch take-up in the manual is a little too abrupt. Acceleration and mileage numbers are comparable between the automatic and manual, so the choice is a matter of personal preference.
A used G37 from these years offered user-friendly controls, excellent build quality and a handsome design -- the latter highlighted by such items as the car's leather-accented magnesium transmission paddle shifters and attractive interior trim. The front seats are comfortable and well-bolstered, and the available sport-styled seats offer even more aggressive bolstering, though they may be a bit too snug for larger drivers. Both the sedan and coupe feel like sports cars wrapped in a luxury car package, but the coupe, with seats that are mounted slightly lower than the sedan's, feels a bit racier. We're less enamored with the convertible, as it's less refined and practical than its competitors from those years.
Overall, the Infiniti G37 stands shoulder to shoulder with all its contemporary rivals in the entry-level luxury segment. Used car consumers in the market for such a vehicle would be wise to put it at the top of their to-drive list.

Just what everyone said it was - 2009 Infiniti G37
By ECS - January 5 - 8:26 amI picked up a barely used 2009 G37X a couple of weeks ago after EXTENSIVE research and testing of (BMW 3 Series, Audi A4, Lexus is250, Ford Fusion Sport, Mazda 6 V6) and luckily found this barely used G37X. Simply put - all the reviews are spot on - second only to the 3-series, but not a distant 2nd. Great car - I love the drive and interior. At night - headlights are amazingly bright.

Best combination Sport, Fun & Comfort - 2008 Infiniti G37

This car has the performance you are looking for and enough convenience items to make it civilized enough to deal with a 45 mile commute. I looked at a lot of different sport coupes but found this one gave the best price and performance combination. I test drove the BMW 3, Audi S5, Porsche Cayman and the Vette (go fast, go straight) they all seem to have one thing in common 46K or better. But the Infiniti with all the bells and whistles to give the car a civilized feel still came in 5K less then the rest. The cars only drawback is fuel economy, dont believe the MPG numbers, I am not even close. Combined city & hwy MPG is 17

What a Great Car - 2009 Infiniti G37
By noah677 - November 18 - 6:10 amI have the 09 G37S coupe with the premium and sport package. What a car. I really cannot find anything to criticize. I also have a 08 911TT Cab so I know cars and power etc. The fit and finish is excellent and the interior is great. Some people criticize the 7speed auto, but honestly, I dont know why and the same goes for the interior. One feature that is cool is the music box with the 9+ GB harddisk. At first I thought it was worthless, but once you have loaded in all your CDs, no more carrying around CDs. If you have to have more status, want to pay thousands more and get less, then by all means buy a Lexus or BMW. The dealer treats you like a king, no begging for loaner.

By bthomas - October 9 - 5:20 amI traded in my 2007 BMW 328i (because it was constantly in the shop) for the new 2008 G37. Got the sport, premium and navigation package. This car rocks! So much better than the BMW. Handling is great, navigation package is awesome and very easy to use. Theres even a 9 GB hard drive in the car so you can rip your CDs to it. The system also controls your iPod with ease. The 330 HP engine is very powerful. Gas mileage is so-so, but thats expected with all the power you get. I definitely recommend this car! Go and test drive one!

G37 S - Not your daddys sports car - 2008 Infiniti G37
By Randy - October 8 - 7:56 amThe G37S is the epitome of luxury sports cars. VQ engine is Nissans BEST and it shows. Power is great, tuning is great, 330 Hp and 270 ft-lb of torque is what keeps you behind the wheel. Looks great and turns heads. 20 MPG city is reasonable (its not a hybrid) and reflects actual mileage. Definitely a winner over 350Z, 330i, Audi, and altima coupe. This may be your last chance to own a high-powered sports car with a REAL manual transmission as CVT and slushboxes are getting more acceptance with their "fake" shift controls.

Drive one if you can! - 2008 Infiniti G37
By rgaz - September 19 - 1:06 amI can reiterate all the good reviews. This car is fun to drive in all conditions and can smoke the tires with ease. I recommend driving with the VDC off so you can really have fun. The VDC can be a bit too overbearing for my tastes. First let me say that the G37S is hands above most cars to compare, so my very minor complaints are just because when you stare at almost perfection, you are bound to find something. The 5-speed shifter throw is too long for my tastes. For a sports car the 1-2 shift should be the shortest possible, and it is not. Again, minor. The tires are great combination, but in the larger rims, they are very expensive to replace. Really, a great car. Drive it and see.

Not overly impressed for the $$$$ - 2009 Infiniti G37
By Spike1 - September 7 - 11:40 pmPlenty enough power which probably accounts for the less than average advertised fuel economy. Im averaging just about 20mph city&highway without really pushing it. If youre planning on driving it (mine is the x version),in the snow I wouldnt recommend doing it with the factory Dunlop so-called all season tires. They are useless in the snow, and defeat the purpose of the new all wheel drive system. I replaced mine with the new Continental Extreme DWSs, and WOW...what a difference. Unless my car is an exception, be aware that there seems to be a noticeable lag when shifting from the auto to manual mode. Otherwise, for the most part, relatively satisfied so far after 3,000 miles.

My second sport model G - 2009 Infiniti G37
By j graham - August 28 - 3:00 pmJust took delivery today of an 09 white G37S to replace my 07 G35s. These are the first automatics Ive ever owned, and I was so impressed I skipped the 6MT option. I had the Tech/Nav/Sport options on the 07, and insisted on them for the new car, which made it very difficult to locate, but the adaptive lighting and dynamic cruise are so helpful I could not imagine having a car without them. I test-drove Audi, BMW, Acuras and even used Boxsters to try finding anything better than the old G, but was unable to fall in love with anything else. The white is much better looking than the old Lakeshore slate G35S, plus the improved performance - what is not to like?
