Model Overview:

Nissan launched its upscale Infiniti division in 1989 with two unique models and a polarizing ad campaign. More than two decades later, Infiniti continues to blaze its own trail in pursuit of luxury, performance and style. The Infiniti G37 sport coupe, sedan and convertible are prime examples of this corporate philosophy. Blessed with a split personality, the rear-wheel-drive G37 will deliver you to work in luxury during the week and then clip apexes all weekend without breaking a sweat.

The list of luxury sport coupes and sedans is typically dominated by elite Teutonic nameplates. In readying the G37, Infiniti honed it on test circuits throughout Europe, including Germany's famed Nürburgring. This athletic chassis, along with the G's attractive sticker price, distinctive interior appointments and ample array of technology, makes it well prepared for battle in this class.

Used Infiniti G37 Models
The Infiniti G37 was first introduced as a coupe for 2008, with the convertible arriving the following year. Technically, the G37 sedan arrived for 2009 as well, but it was really the same vehicle as the second-generation G35 sedan that arrived for '07, albeit with a larger 3.7-liter V6. Confused yet? It gets worse. For 2011, Infiniti officially broke these cars apart into separate models, so for information on a new G, please read the Infiniti G Sedan review, Infiniti G Coupe review and Infiniti G Convertible review.

Used Infiniti G37 models are available in coupe, sedan or convertible body styles, with four possible trim levels: base, Journey, G37x and Sport 6MT. The convertible was only offered in base or Sport 6MT trim, though. For 2010, a special range-topping Anniversary model added features that included navigation, an upgraded Bose audio system, iPod connectivity and ventilated seats (for the convertible only).

In addition to the long list of standard features packaged with each trim level, several options, including the Anniversary add-ons were available à la carte. Adaptive cruise control will alleviate some fatigue on long trips, while the available Sport package (standard on the G37 Sport 6MT and optional on the G37 Journey) will rouse the interest of more aggressive drivers thanks to features like a limited-slip differential, a sport-tuned suspension and brakes, sport seats and bigger wheels.

A four-wheel active steer system (4WAS) was available for those obsessed with pushing the technological envelope, but reactions were mixed, with several drivers noting diminished steering feedback in vehicles equipped with 4WAS. It was eliminated after 2009. Stability control, front-seat side airbags and side curtain airbags can be found on all used Infiniti G37s, and a pre-collision preparation feature was optional.

During these years, the G37's 3.7-liter V6 produced a very healthy 330 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque, fed to either the rear wheels or all four (G37x). In base, Journey and G37x trims, the G37 came with a seven-speed automatic transmission featuring paddle shifters, while the Sport 6MT featured a six-speed manual. Both transmissions have their devotees, but the clutch take-up in the manual is a little too abrupt. Acceleration and mileage numbers are comparable between the automatic and manual, so the choice is a matter of personal preference.

A used G37 from these years offered user-friendly controls, excellent build quality and a handsome design -- the latter highlighted by such items as the car's leather-accented magnesium transmission paddle shifters and attractive interior trim. The front seats are comfortable and well-bolstered, and the available sport-styled seats offer even more aggressive bolstering, though they may be a bit too snug for larger drivers. Both the sedan and coupe feel like sports cars wrapped in a luxury car package, but the coupe, with seats that are mounted slightly lower than the sedan's, feels a bit racier. We're less enamored with the convertible, as it's less refined and practical than its competitors from those years.

Overall, the Infiniti G37 stands shoulder to shoulder with all its contemporary rivals in the entry-level luxury segment. Used car consumers in the market for such a vehicle would be wise to put it at the top of their to-drive list.

  • The Batmobile - 2008 Infiniti G37

Only by this car if you want to be noticed. I have owned my G37 for 8 years and over 134,000 miles. Only had one problem that requirex non-warrenty repair. I dont get into my car, I put it on. This car was made fot the highway. It out accelerates just about anything else on the road is highly manuverable, and is rather nice to be in for long drives ( I had a 1 hr commute). I would buy it again...

  • Excellent workmanship. Poor engineering. - 2009 Infiniti G37

Excellent workmanship. Poor engineering. Loud engine and road noises. Bad reflection of dash to windshield from sun and dash lights. Must take vehicle to dealer to check transmission fluid. Vehicle does not track well on straightaway road and requires constant steering. At 70 mph, tach rpm is 2300 whereas, it should be less than 2000 for better mileage. Previous owned Acura TL, type S, a superior vehicle to this one.

  • Test drove, dont own - 2008 Infiniti G37

Coming from 2002 BMW M3 SMG and 2008 Audi A4 6-Speed (GIAC chipped), G37S felt SLOW, maybe just a bit faster then my A4 (again GIAC chipped), and MUCH slower then M3. Steering not as tight as on previous cars, at 28k miles there was a lot of NOT normal wear on plastics and leather. The built quality inside is on par with Honda Civic. I am sorry, I wanted to like this car, but 335i (thats usually compared to G37S) is just a better car all around.

  • Bye bye BMW - 2009 Infiniti G37

Ive owned BMW 5 series for 17 years. This year I decided to downsize so I looked at a 335. Great car. Then I drove a G37. To be honest I would have preferred to buy the BMW, but it would have cost about $10,000 more than a comparably equipped G37. BMW nickle and dimes you to death on options, and theres no way its $10,000 better than a G37. I perfectly satisfied with the G37, and $10,000 wealthier.

  • Worth the wait! - 2009 Infiniti G37

Spent 17 months meticulously reading reviews and test driving every car in the entry level luxury class, plus many other categories, before selecting the G37X coupe. Although I bought the car this May, I test drove it during a Michigan snow storm, and have a strong impression of its road grip-handling during both good and very poor road conditions. This car is superb by all measures. Its exterior lines are eye catching and interior refinements are topnotch. Fuel economy is better than I had anticipated, as Im averaging 21 MPG of mostly city driving. Not too shabby! This car is awesome.

  • Its Mostly Good - 2009 Infiniti G37
    By -

Ive had this car for 3 months, 2000 miles. Overall, great car. Comfortable, good performance, great fit and finish. Getting 20-21 mpg mostly city driving. Nitpicks... While the seating is comfortable, the head room is tight. Unless I sit near the bottom of seat height adjustment, my heads hits the roof, Im 5 11". Bose radio is good, not great. Transmission lower gears are not well matched, winds up to quickly going, jerky when slowing down.

  • Great car - 2008 Infiniti G37

The car is outstanding. Performance, sound, amenities, technology it has it all. The car gets many looks and compliments. Love to drive the car anywhere and nowhere. The car has incredible freeway acceleration!

  • G37 Coupe with Premium, Sport, Nav, Tech - 2009 Infiniti G37
    By -

I test drove 11 different vehicles from 9 different manufactures, finally selecting the G37 for its overall combination of price, performance, looks, and overall sexiness. Reaction to the car is a mixed bag from men. However every woman who has come into contact with mine has loved it, some enough to walk up to me in the store and rave about it. When you decide to get on it hard, the rear end breaks free a little sooner then you would expect, but in a very controllable and forgiving manner. This makes it very easy to drive fast, pushing it until the back end starts to drift out and hold the line. From someone who normally despises automatics, the seven- speed in the G37 is phenomenal.

  • G37 Sweet Ride - 2008 Infiniti G37

2008 Journey w/Sport/Navi/Premium Platinum Graphite/Stone This car has it all for a coupe. 450 miles on the engine and breaking it in easy, but can tell there is a lot of power waiting to be unleashed. Great handling, great sound system, the navi system with real time traffic is accurate and easy to use. Video inputs as well, can play PacMan on the navi with those battery powered old arcade games. 19 inch wheels with Sport Pkg are really nice looking. A bit bumpy on those weird sections of highway but overall a nice ride for a Sport model. The auto trans shifts nicely up/down, very comfortable shifting. Paddle shifters and DS drive modes make this coupe worth getting as an automatic.

  • G37 captures the German auto gestalt - 2008 Infiniti G37
    By -

I just test-drove the G37 Sport automatic. My first impression: this is the first Japanese car Ive driven (I own the G35 6MT with the Brembos) that feels exactly like a German sports car. Seriously. The Sport G37 is tight and solid, with a really surprising balance of sport verve and comfort. The car really feels likes a BMW or Mercedes, but with more edge. Yet it is still distinctly Japanese in its design, if not feel. The exterior is probably the most sumptous, sophisticated sport car design out now for a production sports car. The interior is slick, with cool details, such as the outstanding brushed alum "washi" trim.
