Overview & Reviews
Nissan launched its upscale Infiniti division in 1989 with two unique models and a polarizing ad campaign. More than two decades later, Infiniti continues to blaze its own trail in pursuit of luxury, performance and style. The Infiniti G37 sport coupe, sedan and convertible are prime examples of this corporate philosophy. Blessed with a split personality, the rear-wheel-drive G37 will deliver you to work in luxury during the week and then clip apexes all weekend without breaking a sweat.
The list of luxury sport coupes and sedans is typically dominated by elite Teutonic nameplates. In readying the G37, Infiniti honed it on test circuits throughout Europe, including Germany's famed Nürburgring. This athletic chassis, along with the G's attractive sticker price, distinctive interior appointments and ample array of technology, makes it well prepared for battle in this class.
Used Infiniti G37 Models
The Infiniti G37 was first introduced as a coupe for 2008, with the convertible arriving the following year. Technically, the G37 sedan arrived for 2009 as well, but it was really the same vehicle as the second-generation G35 sedan that arrived for '07, albeit with a larger 3.7-liter V6. Confused yet? It gets worse. For 2011, Infiniti officially broke these cars apart into separate models, so for information on a new G, please read the Infiniti G Sedan review, Infiniti G Coupe review and Infiniti G Convertible review.
Used Infiniti G37 models are available in coupe, sedan or convertible body styles, with four possible trim levels: base, Journey, G37x and Sport 6MT. The convertible was only offered in base or Sport 6MT trim, though. For 2010, a special range-topping Anniversary model added features that included navigation, an upgraded Bose audio system, iPod connectivity and ventilated seats (for the convertible only).
In addition to the long list of standard features packaged with each trim level, several options, including the Anniversary add-ons were available à la carte. Adaptive cruise control will alleviate some fatigue on long trips, while the available Sport package (standard on the G37 Sport 6MT and optional on the G37 Journey) will rouse the interest of more aggressive drivers thanks to features like a limited-slip differential, a sport-tuned suspension and brakes, sport seats and bigger wheels.
A four-wheel active steer system (4WAS) was available for those obsessed with pushing the technological envelope, but reactions were mixed, with several drivers noting diminished steering feedback in vehicles equipped with 4WAS. It was eliminated after 2009. Stability control, front-seat side airbags and side curtain airbags can be found on all used Infiniti G37s, and a pre-collision preparation feature was optional.
During these years, the G37's 3.7-liter V6 produced a very healthy 330 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque, fed to either the rear wheels or all four (G37x). In base, Journey and G37x trims, the G37 came with a seven-speed automatic transmission featuring paddle shifters, while the Sport 6MT featured a six-speed manual. Both transmissions have their devotees, but the clutch take-up in the manual is a little too abrupt. Acceleration and mileage numbers are comparable between the automatic and manual, so the choice is a matter of personal preference.
A used G37 from these years offered user-friendly controls, excellent build quality and a handsome design -- the latter highlighted by such items as the car's leather-accented magnesium transmission paddle shifters and attractive interior trim. The front seats are comfortable and well-bolstered, and the available sport-styled seats offer even more aggressive bolstering, though they may be a bit too snug for larger drivers. Both the sedan and coupe feel like sports cars wrapped in a luxury car package, but the coupe, with seats that are mounted slightly lower than the sedan's, feels a bit racier. We're less enamored with the convertible, as it's less refined and practical than its competitors from those years.
Overall, the Infiniti G37 stands shoulder to shoulder with all its contemporary rivals in the entry-level luxury segment. Used car consumers in the market for such a vehicle would be wise to put it at the top of their to-drive list.

Want my 04 G35 Coupe back! - 2009 Infiniti G37
By Amy - March 21 - 6:26 pmReplaced my 04 G35 coupe w/Sport suspension with 09 same pkgs. Just wanted updated electronics. What I loved best about the 04: tight steering, throaty feel and great brakes. Infiniti ruined all three. The steering is loose, the 7 spd transmission spends all its time at high rpms shifting all over the place - like an old 4 cylinder piece of junk and the brakes grind. After 2 weeks and 900 miles, I guess I only have a few more years to hate it. Maybe I can still buy back my 04.

2009 G37xS Sedan... Not disapointed!! - 2009 Infiniti G37
By managerman - February 27 - 4:50 amI just turned in my leased 2006 M35 and picked up a new 2009 G37xS Sedan. I am very pleased! This car is much sportier, has 48 more horses than the M, and is a blast to drive. The steering is much tighter and with the all-wheel drive it sticks to the road in dry, rainy, or snowy weather. The sport model comes with the paddle shifters and 18" alloy wheels. Very nice look in the new Moonlight White color.

G37xS with Nav - 2009 Infiniti G37
By need4speed - February 26 - 10:13 amI was looking for a pre-owned Lexus GS350 or M35x Infiniti but ran into trouble finding low mileage examples and the new ones were too expensive. I actually thought the Ininiti G and the Lexus IS were too small. One day while waiting to test drive a pre-owned M the sales rep suggested I test drive a new G. I did and it was love at first drive. It is one of the most solid cars I have ever driven, has plenty of power and all of the controls for the Nav, sound system, phone, etc are extremely easy to use. Once you get to use the controls a short time you can figure out how to use all of the functions without referring to an instruction booklet. This car is more than a 3 series and much cheaper!

Great Car - Poor Transmission - 2009 Infiniti G37
By Bobby - January 4 - 6:46 pmReplaced my G35 with a 37, but I wish I had my 35 back. Pretty much the same car inside the cab, but obviously faster and with a terrible 7 speed transmission. The jerks at low speeds during shifts and jumps into higher gears is frustrating. Takes the fun out of driving an otherwise awesome car.

Excellent Car - 2008 Infiniti G37
By SKIM - December 2 - 3:53 amIt took me a year to decide on the right car. I test drove and considered IS, 3 series, A4, TSX, 350Z, RX8. I owned 2006 GS 430 before I bought the G37; Id say the G37 is just as powerful as the V8 in the GS 430. This is really an excellent car.

Not For City Slickers - 2009 Infiniti G37
By iwasgointo - November 13 - 4:16 pmGreat car overall, but the clutch pedal is a bit too heavy for regular city stop and go driving. I live in Philly and all Infiniti dealers are located in the suburbs. The suburban test drive and the back roads that showed off the handling really didnt reveal how tiring the clutch pedal would become in the city environment where I reside. I have a 2006 Honda Element with manual trans that is a pleasure to drive in the city with its light clutch and precise shift action. Its very, very similar to the BMW 3 Series that I recently test drove. If I could have driven the Infiniti in the city for a day or two I probably would not have purchased it despite its other wonderful virtues.

Watch Out BMW - 2008 Infiniti G37
By Mark - October 28 - 12:20 amHad Bimmers for several years and still like them. Tried to trade in my 03/Z4 for a 08/330 coupe but felt like I got the brush off from the saleman. Went across the street and purshased the G37 that evening. Purely amazed that I found a car that not only was several thousand less than the BMW but could run with it as well. Interior and exterior fit and finishes are fantastic. But the best experience is to hop in and let her run. WOW! My MPG is averaging right at 26mpg out on the highway and 23mpg combined. Cant wait to see the convertible when it arrives.

Great Car - 2009 Infiniti G37
By MSU7151 - September 26 - 4:06 amI leased a new 2010 G37 convertible when my Mercedes Benz CLK350 lease ran out. With the Infiniti, its like night and day. The G37 is so much faster, handles better and even looks classier, inside and out, than the Mercedes. So far, both Infiniti and the dealer have been great. Responsive and proactive with notices and keeping in touch.

Great Alternative to German Coupes - 2008 Infiniti G37
By Mark - September 9 - 5:00 pmIve had a 330Ci & M3 before getting the G and I have liked most things better. The bimmers seem quicker since the G is such a heavy car. However, the G seems more refined than the M3 which suffered from a loose and clunky differential. The Gs differential is much tighter giving an overall smoother & solid feeling. However, the clutch uptake is abrupt (similar to bmw). The navigation of the G is more user friendly, even compared to the iDrive in the newer bmws. It is touch screen and voiced activated. The G37 is a better value since you get more included options rather than having to add them separately like German cars.

The wife loves it - 2009 Infiniti G37
By rt-texas - August 6 - 4:56 pmReplaced the spouses Audi TT with a G37 because so many friends recommended Infiniti. If its as reliable as I hope I will be ecstatic. Wife is now thrilled with the car. I love the combination of sport performance with a touch of luxury.
