Overview & Reviews
Nissan launched its upscale Infiniti division in 1989 with two unique models and a polarizing ad campaign. More than two decades later, Infiniti continues to blaze its own trail in pursuit of luxury, performance and style. The Infiniti G37 sport coupe, sedan and convertible are prime examples of this corporate philosophy. Blessed with a split personality, the rear-wheel-drive G37 will deliver you to work in luxury during the week and then clip apexes all weekend without breaking a sweat.
The list of luxury sport coupes and sedans is typically dominated by elite Teutonic nameplates. In readying the G37, Infiniti honed it on test circuits throughout Europe, including Germany's famed Nürburgring. This athletic chassis, along with the G's attractive sticker price, distinctive interior appointments and ample array of technology, makes it well prepared for battle in this class.
Used Infiniti G37 Models
The Infiniti G37 was first introduced as a coupe for 2008, with the convertible arriving the following year. Technically, the G37 sedan arrived for 2009 as well, but it was really the same vehicle as the second-generation G35 sedan that arrived for '07, albeit with a larger 3.7-liter V6. Confused yet? It gets worse. For 2011, Infiniti officially broke these cars apart into separate models, so for information on a new G, please read the Infiniti G Sedan review, Infiniti G Coupe review and Infiniti G Convertible review.
Used Infiniti G37 models are available in coupe, sedan or convertible body styles, with four possible trim levels: base, Journey, G37x and Sport 6MT. The convertible was only offered in base or Sport 6MT trim, though. For 2010, a special range-topping Anniversary model added features that included navigation, an upgraded Bose audio system, iPod connectivity and ventilated seats (for the convertible only).
In addition to the long list of standard features packaged with each trim level, several options, including the Anniversary add-ons were available à la carte. Adaptive cruise control will alleviate some fatigue on long trips, while the available Sport package (standard on the G37 Sport 6MT and optional on the G37 Journey) will rouse the interest of more aggressive drivers thanks to features like a limited-slip differential, a sport-tuned suspension and brakes, sport seats and bigger wheels.
A four-wheel active steer system (4WAS) was available for those obsessed with pushing the technological envelope, but reactions were mixed, with several drivers noting diminished steering feedback in vehicles equipped with 4WAS. It was eliminated after 2009. Stability control, front-seat side airbags and side curtain airbags can be found on all used Infiniti G37s, and a pre-collision preparation feature was optional.
During these years, the G37's 3.7-liter V6 produced a very healthy 330 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque, fed to either the rear wheels or all four (G37x). In base, Journey and G37x trims, the G37 came with a seven-speed automatic transmission featuring paddle shifters, while the Sport 6MT featured a six-speed manual. Both transmissions have their devotees, but the clutch take-up in the manual is a little too abrupt. Acceleration and mileage numbers are comparable between the automatic and manual, so the choice is a matter of personal preference.
A used G37 from these years offered user-friendly controls, excellent build quality and a handsome design -- the latter highlighted by such items as the car's leather-accented magnesium transmission paddle shifters and attractive interior trim. The front seats are comfortable and well-bolstered, and the available sport-styled seats offer even more aggressive bolstering, though they may be a bit too snug for larger drivers. Both the sedan and coupe feel like sports cars wrapped in a luxury car package, but the coupe, with seats that are mounted slightly lower than the sedan's, feels a bit racier. We're less enamored with the convertible, as it's less refined and practical than its competitors from those years.
Overall, the Infiniti G37 stands shoulder to shoulder with all its contemporary rivals in the entry-level luxury segment. Used car consumers in the market for such a vehicle would be wise to put it at the top of their to-drive list.

G37 6MT sport edition - 2008 Infiniti G37
By Will - September 15 - 3:16 pmI bought the 6MT version with the manual 6 speed, nav, prem, tech, all wheel steering. I love everything about the car. Handling is unbelievable. Acceleration is fantastic. Bose system great. Wonderful to be able to store CDs on a hard drive and not carry them in the car. Dont buy this car and complain about the MPG.

Love this car! - 2008 Infiniti G37
By Richard Petrie - August 26 - 3:10 pmI have owned my 2008 G37S since October 2007. It has been a very reliable car and, unlike a BMW, I dont see my car every day on my commute to and from work. It is great to drive on two-lane country roads or interstate highways. The trunk is small but the seat back folds down allowing suitcases and several cases of wine to be carried home returning from a vacation in the Finger Lakes region.

The only update I want to make to this review now that the car will be ten years old in October is: I want to keep it another ten years! Rear-wheel drive, manual transmission, beautiful styling and as I stated above, a car one does not see every day several times on a commute to and from work: What choices do I have if I want to buy a new car?

A dream to drive - 2009 Infiniti G37
By Primpin - August 20 - 12:56 pmMy first Infiniti and I have no desire to buy another car, ever. No complaints: Fun to drive; Comfortable; Roomy; FAST; Beautiful :)... LOVE the safety features & technology pkg. (where has this back-up cam been all my life??). Also, the Infiniti dealership was the best car-buying experience Ive ever had.

Get the "S" version w/ manual tranny - 2009 Infiniti G37
By Shifter - August 18 - 1:53 pmThis is my second G... first was a 2006 G35 "S" with the manual. Also got the manual on my 2009 G37. The manual transmission really makes this car. You have to special order, but its worth the wait. Had a BMW 328 prior to going to Infiniti the first time and obviously decided to stick with Infiniti. Maintenance and dealer experiences have been great for the 5 years Ive owned my cars. My only complaints are some minor chipping on the grill (2006 didnt do this),crappy cup holders in the manual version and Bluetooth that wont sync with Droid phones.

430 to G37S - 2008 Infiniti G37
By HBAZ - July 14 - 1:50 pmTraded CLK 430 for 08 G37S and I truly miss my 430 but am delighted with the G37S. It gets lots of looks the engine is amazing both sound and pull. Coming from the V8 I couldnt just get any V6 so the G37 gave me that exhaust rumble that I was accustomed to. The features in the car made the CLK feel like it was from the 70s and the reliability will let me sleep at night.

From 330i to the G37 - 2008 Infiniti G37
By Open Class - April 8 - 10:40 pmI have owned a 2001 330i for 4 years and have loved the car. During my research for a replacement I felt I should look at Infiniti as well as BMW (335 vs. G37). Both are great cars and if you go by just the professional drivers reviews from the magazines you might lean toward the more expensive BMW (I was). I drove them both and at the end of the day I felt the ride quality, interior layout, technology, unique exterior, and "grin factor" of the G37 to be superior to the 335. These are the things that matter to me. In addition, in the real world you will never notice or take advantage of any perceived performance advantages either vehicle might have. So, more vehicle for for 8k less..YES!

Great for empy nesters - 2009 Infiniti G37
By bburgh - April 3 - 11:08 pmIf you need a big trunk, plan on having people in the back seat for longer than 1/2 an hour or dont like a sporty ride dont buy this car. For two people who like to throw a car around on country roads this is "the" car. Its a joy to drive hard, but very comfortable if you take it easy. My only problem is my wife keeps taking it.

Just Shy of Perfect - 2008 Infiniti G37
By tklmn - March 25 - 1:40 pmJust replaced my 2005 G35 coupe with a 2008 G37S. Overall, Im very impressed with the G37 - its better than the G35 in almost every way including better ride quality, improved sound dampening, tech features (long list of them), interior design... the list goes on and on! The only changes I could suggest would include eliminating the shifter vibration, like the BMW 3-series. In my opinion, the vibration goes 180 degrees in the opposite direction of this more refined revision. Also, the torque seems to be in the mid to high rpms, and I would prefer low end torque. Unless I punch the gas off the line, it feels like Im crawling. The G37 is a great car... just shy of perfect.
