Model Overview:

One of Hyundai's longest-running nameplates, the Santa Fe is a car-based crossover SUV aimed at buyers seeking the elevated ride height and useful cargo area of a traditional utility vehicle in an easy-to-drive package. Modern versions of the Hyundai Santa Fe are midsize with three rows of seating, quality cabin furnishings and user-friendly tech features. Whether you're shopping for a new or used Santa Fe, value is a big part of its appeal. The standard equipment list is generous, as is Hyundai's warranty coverage.

Earlier versions of the Hyundai Santa Fe range from compact to midsize in dimensions and have seating for five passengers. The 2007 and later models are a big step up in styling, performance and interior space, and they're worth considering if you're shopping for a used midsize crossover. Hyundai has since subdivided the Santa Fe line into two models: the two-row Santa Fe Sport and the three-row Santa Fe. The latter is more luxurious than its predecessors, offering premium styling and plenty of power.

Love the car... The only thing we dont like is when traveling south on a sunny day, you get a glare from the chrome around the shift selector.

Im so glad I got the 3.5 L engine - it can really move out into traffic. It has a lot of power. Im very pleased with how quiet and comfortable it is even on bumpy roads. Large back seat too.

  • My 2015 vs. My 2016 Limited Ultimate Santa Fe - 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe
    By -

My 2015 saved us during a massive accident. An 85 year old man had his second accident of the day by pulling across out multilane divided highway at just the wrong time. We hit him at something less than the 60 mph limit and both my wife and I walked away from out totaled Santa Fe. The airbags worked so well that I didnt even have bruise marks from my glasses. The only downside is that Hyundai, and everybody else, I suppose, puts the horn button on top of the steering wheel airbag. I wonder how many other people suffer my injury: my hand-on-the-horn got blown back into my chest. It took almost two months for the pain to fully subside, and another month for my hand to regain most of its strength. Tow rating was important to me. If you buy the PIO (port installed option) trailer hitch package, the Santa Fe Limited (and SE) have a 5000 lb tow rating. According to the owners manual, even with an aftermarket hitch it is only rated for 2000 lbs. After the accident, even though the force of our connected travel trailer impact bent the "stinger" 90 degrees into the bumper, but the Hyundai hitch structure seemed undamaged. The impact was so severe that even the trailer was totaled. After the accident we had time to reflect on a replacement car. We felt so well protected by the car and had enjoyed all the features of the Ultimate package that we got the identical car in the 2016. Right away, both of us independently thought the 2016 was substantially quieter; I think theyve added insulation and maybe fine tuned the suspension. Ive seen a lot of negative comment about the third row seating. With the SE bench seat it might be a problem, but with the Limiteds captains chairs it isnt much of a deal to get into the third row. Just for grins, my wife and I let our daughter and her 6 5" husband drive and we rode in the third row for a six hour day trip. Grandsons in the middle. Were both 70 y/o and it was perfectly comfortable. Having the panoramic sun roof almost reach the third row makes it much nicer. My biggest complaint is that Hyundai hasnt incorporated Apples Carplay into the display system. The existing nav system is nice, but not as good as Google Maps or Apple Maps, plus I have to pay an annual $50 fee to Sirius just to get traffic information incorporated into the nav system. Carplay was supposed to begin showing up in another Hyundai model in 2015 so I figured the 2016 would definitely have it: Wrong! The BlueLink "turn by turn guidance", which is $100/ year is not compatible with the navigation system. Go figure.

  • Santa Fe - 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe
    By -

This is a review of my first Santa Fe purchased in 2001. 137000 trouble free miles. I dont see any major changes in the 2005. Im sure the 2005 will be better.

  • Excellent SUV Great Value - 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe

As a body shop owner and a Santa Fe owner this vehicle is wonderful. Ive driven almost all the others and this one is by far the best and the warranty is excellent. We bought one after fixing four of them. They are built well, and Hyundai really cares about their customers. We may even buy a second one and will trade this one in in 2005 for another one.

  • Hyundai is #1 - 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

I love the car. It looks and drives very well. Loaded with power seats and DVD player is only 32,000! Thats good compared to Honda Pilot or even Acura MDX.

  • 2002 Santa Fe LX 4WD Pewter - 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe

The vehicle drives like a luxury car, quiet, smooth & responsive. It is a heavy vehicle and I am averaging 20 mpg combined city/highway. The workmanship is top notch, and it looks great. I notice many people looking at the vehicle when my wife and I go to the mall.

  • Worse car Ive ever owned - 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe
    By -

So many problems I hope I can remember them all.At 33k miles I started having problems with the vehicle shutting off when trying to accelerate from a complete stop. Not a great problem to have when turning in front of oncoming traffic. After many days Hyundai finally found a pin loose under the dash and also a bad catalytic converter. At 45k the fuel level sensor went bad causing a inaccurate fuel gauge. At 49k a new stalling problem started. When slowing down all the engine and all electrical would shutdown forcing me to drift to the side of road and attempt to restart. That was the last straw in my Hyundai nightmare.I promptly traded the lemon in and couldnt be happier having something reliable now. Will never purchase a Hyundai ever again or suggest buying one to a friend or family member.

  • Hate This Vehicle - 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe
    By -

Purchased this vehicle new off the truck. Thought I was getting a good deal for the money, but have had nothing but problems with this vehicle. Had to put new tires on at 18,000 miles, along with new rear brakes. Hyundai would NOT even speak to us about it. "Wear Items". Now at 25000 miles it has been in the shop 4 times for throttle sensor issues. Actually had the dealer I purchased the vehicle from deem the car UNSAFE to drive out of their repair shop at 18,000 miles. RIDICULOUS. Never owned such a undependable vehicle. Will NEVER purchase another Hyundai. Currently getting ready to contact an attorney in regards to this terrible vehicle. SAVE YOUR MONEY!

  • New CEO is a genius! - 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe
    By -

Hyundai used to suck...bad! Then they got a new CEO and viola! Major changes took place. If this vehicle is any indication of the rest of their lineup, Hyundai will be a major player in just a few more years. We have approximately 10,000 miles on our Santa Fe already and not a single problem to note. We tested the Escape, Liberty, and others. I then convinced my wife to test the Santa Fe just to be thourough in our research. We were both floored by the quality of the vehicle, the price, the warranty, standard features, etc., etc. IMHO, there is simply no better value out there.
