Model Overview:

One of Hyundai's longest-running nameplates, the Santa Fe is a car-based crossover SUV aimed at buyers seeking the elevated ride height and useful cargo area of a traditional utility vehicle in an easy-to-drive package. Modern versions of the Hyundai Santa Fe are midsize with three rows of seating, quality cabin furnishings and user-friendly tech features. Whether you're shopping for a new or used Santa Fe, value is a big part of its appeal. The standard equipment list is generous, as is Hyundai's warranty coverage.

Earlier versions of the Hyundai Santa Fe range from compact to midsize in dimensions and have seating for five passengers. The 2007 and later models are a big step up in styling, performance and interior space, and they're worth considering if you're shopping for a used midsize crossover. Hyundai has since subdivided the Santa Fe line into two models: the two-row Santa Fe Sport and the three-row Santa Fe. The latter is more luxurious than its predecessors, offering premium styling and plenty of power.

  • Reliability with a CAPITAL R - 2006 Hyundai Santa Fe

Believe it or not, in 4 years I have put 160,000 on this vehicle and its rock solid. No issues whatsoever. No power loss, nothing. All Ive done is regular oil changes (synthetic) and the up-scale filters. I have changed the front rotors once. This vehicle is just a dream and should be considered by all who are in for a reliable used. Forget the Japanese, they are just too much money for nothing. They dont even look good. I guess people are noting that in a hurry now. The Santa Fe is already the largest selling import SUV in Canada. Good job Hyundai. My next vehicle would also be a Hyundai. The Veracruz or if they come up with a larger SUV then thatd be it.

  • Strange, drawn out problems - 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe

I loved Hyundai when I purchased my 2005 Santa Fe. The car was pretty amazing until spring of 10, when it started to show signs of overheating, without the thermostat going up. Lithia told me it was fine, and I drove it until it started stalling. I took it back in, paid for a new radiator (not under warranty after 60K), and dealt with either cracked radiators/ bubbling coolant or not having a vehicle for 3 months. They couldnt figure out what was wrong. Head gasket had to be replaced (under warranty) but since that had been what blew out the radiator, why didnt I get any refund? Or the more than $1k of equipment that they didnt seem to care was stolen from my car while they had it!

  • good car for price - 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe

I enjoy driving the Santa Fe much more than the Windstar I traded in. It is easier to park, vision is better and so is fuel economy. For the money, you get a great suv. I would buy it again. Im not sure the friend who bought the Explorer the same month would. It has not caused me a minute of trouble.

  • Very Poor Customer and Dealer Service - 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe
    By -

Our vehicle is going on 4 yrs, with numerous recalls (and some others issues mentioned). But, the real problem is when you have to deal with a dealer. Our vehicle suddenly has paint bubbling up everywhere from a poor factory paint job. Ive never seen a problem like this with any other vehicle weve owned. The dealer was very unhelpful (Im sure ours isnt the only vehicle with this problem). He downright just didnt want to deal with us. When I emailed Hyundai and told them I was disappointed in their dealer attitude and build quality, their response was a legalistic youre out of warranty response. Never will buy another Hyundai after this.

  • A Great SUV - 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe
    By -

I bought my 2005 Santa Fe with 23 miles on it. I have driven it down to Texas and Mississippi and had great gas mileage. I now have 86K miles on it and have only put new tires on it at 79K as well as new brakes for the first time. I also have done my normal maintenance on it including new timing belt. I have had ZERO issues with my SUV and plan on driving it hopefully another 100K before deciding on a new one. It is the most comfortable vehicle I have ever owned and driven.

  • Excellent vehicle - 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

We like the handling of the vehicle, the MPH with mixed driving is anywhere from 22 mph to 26.7 mph, it drives through heavy snow very well. We love the third seat (we have a seven year old and friends). The heated seats are excellent, better than our Lexus! Storage for this and that is great.

  • Very Happy- but room for Improvements - 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe

My wife and I chose the Santa Fe for many reasons vs. the competition. The over-all value we felt we received with this vehicle meets our expectations. The 3rd row seating with the DVD player entertainment system is a BIG plus! The vehicle handles well, and has decent pick-up. I am slightly disappointed with the 1st of 5 gears; It feels like it hesitates a little from a stand-still. The "Range" feature of the trip computer is misleading- When I think I am about to run out of gas, and when I fill-up, I only put in 16.8 gal, not the 19.8 it holds! Overall, the vehicle is very quiet, has a great Infinity sound system, fun blue dash lighting (and cup holder), and user-friendly controls.

  • Less Money More Features - 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe
    By -

I have Ford Explorer XLT and discovered that Santa is more comfy, lot of features, less fuel consumption and affordable. Its truly a "peoples chute" because of its competitive price. No one could beat 100,000 miles or 10-years warranty...cmon....I Love my Santa Fe.
