Model Overview:

One of Hyundai's longest-running nameplates, the Santa Fe is a car-based crossover SUV aimed at buyers seeking the elevated ride height and useful cargo area of a traditional utility vehicle in an easy-to-drive package. Modern versions of the Hyundai Santa Fe are midsize with three rows of seating, quality cabin furnishings and user-friendly tech features. Whether you're shopping for a new or used Santa Fe, value is a big part of its appeal. The standard equipment list is generous, as is Hyundai's warranty coverage.

Earlier versions of the Hyundai Santa Fe range from compact to midsize in dimensions and have seating for five passengers. The 2007 and later models are a big step up in styling, performance and interior space, and they're worth considering if you're shopping for a used midsize crossover. Hyundai has since subdivided the Santa Fe line into two models: the two-row Santa Fe Sport and the three-row Santa Fe. The latter is more luxurious than its predecessors, offering premium styling and plenty of power.

  • Good car, only a few issues - 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe
    By -

Overall, I love my Santa Fe. It is a smooth ride since it is on the car body, instead of a truck. I have been in Blazers (which is similar) and it is a horrible ride compared to the Santa Fe. The main issue I have is that sometimes when I am driving, the engine gets bogged down and the car will jerk. It corrects itself, but it is scary when it happens. Besides that, I would recommend this car. I only wish Hyundia made a bigger SUV. i am out of room with my two kids in the back!

  • Grateful We Shopped Around - 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe

We thought the RAV4 was too expensive for what you got. Base price was OK, but very limited standard equipment. Everything was an option and before you knew it you were in the $23-25,000 range totally outfitted. We looked at the total market small SUVs (KIA, Ford Escort, Jeep Liberty, Chevy Tracker, Nissan CRV, Mazda Tribute, etc.) and the only runner-up to the Sante Fe we found was the Mazda Tribute. I am glad we did an extensive comparision because price-wise the Sante Fe offers more options for less money.

I bought the Santa Fe Limited with navigation after a lot of research and test drives of other vehicles. I have to say it has lived up to every situation that i can throw at it. I have read that some users have had issues but I can not say that I have had any of those problems. The only exception is that I am getting a little better gas mileage now than on the spec sheet.

  • love it so far! - 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe

it is unfortunate that the name hyundai carries negative conotations because this is a great little suv. the styling is unparalleled, no other suv has such sleek lines. the price is right and the warranty gives me 100% peace of mind. its cheaper to BUY this car than to lease just anything else. other competitors just didnt match up; whether it was styling features, available V6, or warranty.

  • My 2nd Santa Fe - 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe
    By -

I owned a 2014 Santa Fe Limited for 3 days. I was t-boned at an intersection, resulting in all but the front air bags deploying and the rear axel snapping in two. The EMS at the scene kept repeating to me that the air bags and design of the Santa Fe saved my life. I replaced that Santa Fe with a 2015 Santa Fe Limited Ultimate. I had been driving Chevy Tahoes since 1999. This Santa Fe is a breath of fresh air! It drives like a dream, holds the road well, and the safety features are awesome. I greatly prefer the navigation system to OnStar. I will be replacing all my company vehicles with Santa Fes as needed.

  • Great SUV - 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe

Purchased this vehicle several months ago. Very happy. Ride is smooth and comfortable. Good on gas. AWD great in wet conditions. Plently of room inside. All in all, a great SUV for the money. Reliability a question, but you cant beat the warranty.

  • Bad Rack and Pinion - 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe
    By -

Had to replace rack and pinion three times. Also, inside door liners, had to replace rubber twice. For all those who own this vehicle, make sure you have the rack and pinion checked. If the steering wheel doesnt stay straight once its aligned, it could be your rack and pinion.

  • warranty does not matter - 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe
    By -

I purchased a Hyundai because of the warranty. However, everything major that could go wrong with the car did (transmission, power steering, axle) and continued after the bumper to bumper warranty expired. Most of the Hyundai dealers closed, so you have to drive 15 miles to service a vehicle under warranty. Not a good sign. Also, the dealer I serviced it at, L.A. City Hyundai, would not cooperate with the manufacturer when warranty issues arose. I would never buy a Hyundai, regardless of the price or how long the warranty is. The aggravation of breaking down and having to pay for a rental car and waiting days for a part is not worth any warranty. I need a car that is reliable.
