Model Overview:

One of Hyundai's longest-running nameplates, the Santa Fe is a car-based crossover SUV aimed at buyers seeking the elevated ride height and useful cargo area of a traditional utility vehicle in an easy-to-drive package. Modern versions of the Hyundai Santa Fe are midsize with three rows of seating, quality cabin furnishings and user-friendly tech features. Whether you're shopping for a new or used Santa Fe, value is a big part of its appeal. The standard equipment list is generous, as is Hyundai's warranty coverage.

Earlier versions of the Hyundai Santa Fe range from compact to midsize in dimensions and have seating for five passengers. The 2007 and later models are a big step up in styling, performance and interior space, and they're worth considering if you're shopping for a used midsize crossover. Hyundai has since subdivided the Santa Fe line into two models: the two-row Santa Fe Sport and the three-row Santa Fe. The latter is more luxurious than its predecessors, offering premium styling and plenty of power.

  • Sadly Disapointed - 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe

Ive had my Sante Fe since April 2002. So far its been back at Fairfax Hyundai for the following 3 times for transmission problems. I would be on the highway and the damn thing would stop accelerating. The air conditioning keeps going out. Its been in the shop 3 times for that and its doing it again. Now my speedometer as stopped working and no mileage accumulates. I had it in 2 times for the vibrations underneath the drivers seat. Also, when I bought Hyundai advertised a certain size engine only to find out that a class action law suit was filed because the size engine was advertised incorrectly.

  • 4000 miles and still good - 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe
    By -

Ive drven my SF GLS for 4k miles and I have no problems at all. Mileage is reaching what Hyundai has put out, and Im happy with the way its performing, especially since Pittsburgh is a very hilly area. Im happy I got the FWD instead of the AWD, since the engine really needs more HP. I respect Hyundai for coming out with HP issue and offering the additional warranties. Just shows you what kind of a company they are - respects their customers very much.

  • Nice car, poor tranny - 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe

I bought this vehicle because I needed versatility on the cheap. It has delivered. The fit and finish is excellent. Interior space is great. Im a wood worker and it has hauled plywood and long boards well. I only have 4000 miles on it so reliability is still to be determined. My only complaint is the automatic transmission. It is slow, stupid and easily confused. If you put the pedal down hard, it has horrible lag and then when the foot comes up the engine/tranny are still confused. Wish this was better.

Excellent first time SUV. I had been following the ads for sometime and I did compare, as the ads suggest, the RAV4 and other vehicles.... I knew what I didnt want and then I test drove the Santa FE and knew that is was right....

  • TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS - 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe
    By -

The transmission stinks... period. Going from first to second gear is whatever you want to call it, a slip, hesitation, pause, delay but it is not normal and Hyundai knows about and continues to put a vehicle on the market with this transmission. It ruins the entire driving experience because when its cold, the hesitation is horrible from first to second gear and continues, at a milder rate, even when its warms up. Shame on you Hyundai this is a lemon law issue.

Dont be misled by the appearance of the comfort of this vehicle. The 2012 Santa Fe, while performing well, is loaded with subpar craftsmanship and design. After not even 3 1/2 years I have had pieces literally fly off the car, constant recalls and a myriad of simple things being replaced -- from light switches to a sun roof that leaked. Handling is OK, but there is more than comfortable body sway on corners. Winter driving is OK, but if youre in heavy snow areas, winter tires are highly recommended. The Blue Tooth set-up is second rate as is the navigation. In fact, the navigation is so whacked out, that even the dealer I bought the car from did not how to use it. Adjustments for things like auto door locks are non existent and the appointments, such as switches and controls and second rate -- at best. Quite honestly, if Toyotas Rav-4 did not have the goofy side-opening rear door (which they have since done away with) I would have gone with that car, or maybe the Chevy Equinox. I generally keep my cars for an extended period of time, but this will not be the case with the Santa Fe. As soon as its paid off, or hits 50k miles -- its gone.

  • Love my Santa Fe - 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe

I got my Santa Fe just two days before having to make a road trip of over 300 miles and WOW what can I say, I was very comfortable the whole way. It got really decent gas mileage (about 26 mpg) and look out for the pick up when you hit the gas. Ive rented SUVs before and some are really big and bulky with less interior room than what I have in the Santa Fe. Two thumbs up to Hyundai

I have 8000 KL. on my S.Fe& love it, it makes my feel like I did in the 50s when I drove my MGB. Handles beautiful smooth ride, but this winter in snow & ice it proved its self. has go, had Toyota Previa AWD for 12 years pior and it would spin a lots more. I think it is because of the higher ratio for the 1st.speed & larger wheels plus it is lighter. Gas consumtion is fair, whsh the rear seats would fold flat.
