The Elantra received a slight refresh for this year in the form of a new hood, deck lid, front and rear bumpers, grille, headlamps and taillights. Interior revisions include a redesigned instrument cluster, vents, center console and climate controls. The engine has been fitted with continuously variable valve timing, and it is now sold in SULEV or ULEV configurations (depending on the state in which it's purchased) which offer horsepower ratings of 138 and 132, respectively. The base GLS model now offers remote keyless entry as standard equipment, while GT models now have a Kenwood CD/MP3 audio system as standard.

New 04 GLS auto sedan is just right! - 2004 Hyundai Elantra
By RM&J - July 16 - 2:00 amHyundai did their homework by slightly revising the 04 model with an updated interior that "works" just right! Instrument controls, seat comfort, stereo sound, quiet cabin, visibility, a/c -- all make for an excellent ride. The updated exterior is also just right and "works" to make this a sharp looking car! My wife and I are so impressed with this car over the corolla we traded in, we just cant believe we got such a nice car for the money! The review that Edmunds has given this car is right on target -- dont pass this one up if youre looking at a civic or corolla. Good job Hyundai!

By cobas - July 11 - 2:00 amThis car makes commuting a pleasure I look forward to twice a day. After six months, I still dont like having to get out of it, and still look back at it after parking. I cant believe what I paid for it. I get nothing but compliments on the ride and interior, and the cargo space is huge. I stuffed a 6-foot pine tree back there with the hatch closed and room to spare. I keep discovering thoughtful details.

Simply a Great Buy - 2004 Hyundai Elantra

The 04 Elantra is highly rated by many car reviewers. Having owned mine for 6 months and driven 12,000 miles, I want to share how wonderful owning this car has been. I bought this car with 52K mi on it. It is a loaded 5-spd GT Hatch. I like the styling inside and out. I have not had a single mechanical problem. I have had to replace one headlight bulb and it was easy. If the biggest complaint about a car is changing headlight bulbs, common sense told me it is a smart car to buy. And the gas mileage? 35 MPG combined thats 450 mi b4 the fuel light comes on! Worth every $ I paid.

Great City Car - 2004 Hyundai Elantra
By Millertime - June 15 - 1:54 amThis is by far the best city car- for the money - I have ever owned. I still get 28 MPG combined even with 69k on it. There is plenty of power to hold your own on the freeway, or get around that annoying person with his turn signal on for miles. Turn on the AC and its a different story. The power flat lines, and the gas mileage heads to the basement. The interior is roomy - better than my wifes 08 Civic -but pretty plain (O CD player in GLS). And you cannot seem to ever find a balance between having the steering wheel at a comfortable hight, and still see all of the instrument cluster. The trunk is huge, and will hold several full sized suit cases. All in all its a great car.

By Tuc41 - May 18 - 10:00 amI traded my 2002 Dodge Stratus SE in for this car. The trade in value on it was so low after only 2yrs. I couldnt stand it! I have only had this car for less than a month...but so far I just absolutely love it! Excellant options and price. I am still driving on the same gas as when I bought it. Also it has just as much room in it as my Stratus did. Very cosy car.

Its built really solid, has good acceleration, and a very smooth ride for a small 4 cylinder. The engine is relatively quiet, and responsive. I would say that my Elantra can compete with nearly any compact in its class.

I was so impressed by the performance and looks of this car that I traded in my galant and got a second one. The balance of looks, warranty, and performance makes all other so called better imports nothing more than a pricier elantra wannabes. This car has me hooked and change the outlook of Hyundai in my eyes. My fiancee also plans on trading in her civic in this weekend. Happy mothers day mom!

Not all its cracked up to be. - 2004 Hyundai Elantra
By kherbert - April 27 - 12:33 pmI bought the Hyundai Elantra after what i thought was sufficient research. The dealer and Hyundai billed it as comparable in quality to Toyota & Honda. That is a joke. I had rust on the rear vent windows and other places pretty quick. I take pretty good care of my cars too. I dont spoil them but I dont neglect routine maintenance and cleaning. Ive had no end of issues with the headlights burning out. Ive had to replace them both 4 times now (8 new headlights) and you cant do it yourself unless youve already got the tools. Its a pain.
