  136000 and still going strong. I drive it easy and give it tlc.everything works. it is a good little car. I love it. cassette player died but I got a after mart thats sounds good. I dont know what these other people knock it for. it ony cost me 13000 dollars new.maybe I got a good one but I still love it. 15 winters so far and runs like a champ. rustproofing does pay off. body has none and paint still sines because I wax it often. so there

  We bought our Elantra new in 2001 and maybe thats the difference from everyone elses experiences on here, but our has been a great little car only letting us down once. Turned out to be the spark plugs and wires needed to be replaced. Ive never seen a car jerk back and forth and act that way before in my life. Sure enough thats what the dealership said it replaced and it ran great afterwards. Unfortunately at the time it was bad enough you couldnt even drive the car though and had to be towed in. Fortunately though it was under warranty! Weve both said wed buy another Hyundai again without hesitation. Its been the best car weve ever owned other than our old Dodges from the 70s.

  I bought my hyundia elentra with 80k miles on it after 9 years the car has been very reliable. I now have 150k and a few things started to fail. I went out and got a 2010 elentra because I didnt want to put more money in a car that I wasnt planning on keeping around much longer. A few bad things Ive notice is the body by the wheels is rusting pretty good, and the radiator just went out. Not a huge deal as the price to get a new one is around $130 and to get it put in will cost around $300.

  My 2001 Hyundai Elantra has over 340,000 miles and still kicks backside going up and over the grapevine numerous times a year. As a matter of fact it just made yet another trip from Oregon to California last month. I just had the transmission replaced and a new clutch(the second one) last week. If you maintain a car and fix it when the littlest problems comes up it will be good to you. Having said that my daughter is using this car to commute 110 miles back and forth to school 5 days a week while I am driving a brand new 2013 Hyundai Elantra and so is my husband thats how impressed we have been with this car. Didnt test drive or look at anything else.

  I used to own a 2001 Hyundai Elantra GLS. The car only had about 95,000 mile on it.I really liked this car. The car ran great. I got about 21 miles per gallon on it. I only had it for about 5 months untill I got in a car accident. I hit the front tire of a scooter doing about 30mph. I am ok and so was the guy on the scooter. There was damage to my front bumper, fender and my hood. My claims adjustor called me and said the car was a total loss. If you do buy this type of car do not get in accident with it because it was built on the cheap side.

  Gotta say, I didnt expect much when I picked mine up at an auction for $3600 with 93K on it. Now three years later and double the mileage I am singing the praises of Hyundai. Must agree with what others are writing - loud road noise, ride is rough and it absolutely eats headlights for some reason, BUT this thing gets me to and from work everyday 130 miles round trip. Left me stranded one time with a broken fan belt and another time because the battery went dead - my own fault. I like the car so much that my wife now needs a car to go back and forth to school and Im going to look at a 2004 model that is identical to mine. That is the best compliment I can think of.

  I bought this car brand new and I am still driving it with 170K on it. Everything on it still works as it should. I have read that people thik it is bad in the snow, Well I think it has a lot to do with the tires I did a lot of research on tires and with the ones I bought the car goes GREAT in the snow. I always run 55 - 60 on the slippery roads with no trouble and I have gone through powder snow that was coming over the hood. It also handles good on dry roads as well I had it up to 120 mph and handles great. The only repairs I have made were wheel bearing and 1 fuel injector, other than that just the regular sch mat. I would buy another and do not baby it!!! It is a lot of fun to drive .

  My wife and I were looking for a basic 4 cylinder car. Commuting to work roughly 150 miles, roundtrip each day, we wanted a basic 4 cylinder with decent mileage and warranty. We went to Suresky, Hyundai dealership and purchased GT version. We immediatley loved its look. It was fully loaded with everything except powered seats. It was and still is a bit small inside but manageable. The engine is a bit noisy. The only major thing weve had to deal with was a stuck fuel injector at about 290XXX. The car still shifts smooth and looks good as well. 10 years and almost 350,000 miles later we are Hyundai fans. We would purchase another Hyundai without hesitation.

  Excellent commuter or first car - 2001 Hyundai Elantra

  Ive had my Elantra for about a year and a half now and have 125k on it, Im 19 and it is my first car, but I have driven a lot of my friends Hondas, and other I4 engine cars. My Elantra out preforms all of them, even stock. Only bad thing is when I have a car full, power lacks a little, just like any other 4 banger. Drives smooth until about 55 and vibrates a little, stops after 70. Corners great, with minimal body roll with good struts. 22 mpg average, topped out at 35 mpg on a road trip. I drive this car really hard, and only had minimal damage. Defiantly recommend this car to anyone looking for a cheap reliable car that out preforms other cars in its class.

  Needed some work - 2001 Hyundai Elantra

  When I purchased the car I knew it needed work. I had three recalls on it when I bought it not including a bit more repairs than I wanted to make on a used car. The gas mileage is great, specially on long trips. Other than that it is just going to be the car I hang on to until it breaks down. Hope it lasts a few years with all the repairs.
