This Year's Model Updates:

Bigger inside and out, the redesigned 2001 Elantra boasts stylish sheet metal, a refined 140-horsepower engine and improved noise, vibration and harshness characteristics. Poised to tackle the best in the class, the Elantra comes well equipped for less than $13,000. Though the useful station wagon model has been stricken from the lineup, a five-door hatchback is set to debut next year.

Pros:
  • Solidly built, powerful engine for its class, plenty of standard features, ultra-low price tag.
Cons:
  • Funky front styling details, wagon no longer available.

  • Fantastic value! - 2001 Hyundai Elantra

This elantra is hands down the best auto I have ever had the pleasure of owning. I have 4 other autos in my family, two of which i paid in excess of $90,000.00 for and this little car is the most trouble free of them all. what a great find!

Ill readily admit that I am extremely frugal (cheap?) and rather see my money grow in investments. I drive a lot and wanted a car that wouldnt break down but with all the amenities like air, power everything and auto. Ive driven about 42,000 miles in a bit over a year and the cars been PERFECT. Not a single problem and it has the added bonus of excellent passing power. Radio sounds great for all of my audio books, air is freezing cold (best Ive ever experienced) and Ive put in nothing but regular oil changes every 3,000 miles. This is my first Hyundai but now Im a Hyundai fan for sure.

  • Great Car! Fun and Sporty - 2001 Hyundai Elantra

We purchased our Elantra over two years ago. I have never held on to a car as long as this one because it is comfortable, reliable, dependable and you just cant beat the warranty! I would recommend this car to everyone. My stereo system sounds better than the one in my husbands Toyota! There is only one thing I would correct and that is the wind noise. Please note that this is true in all of the cars that I have owned - even Toyota and Honda.

I really liked this car when I got it because of the price, lightweight body, peppy motor, 4 doors/roomy back seats, and leather interior. Now that I have had it a bit, I am unhappy with vibration in the steering wheel at 75+mph and am unhappy with the extreme vibration of braking the car when at modest speeds..esp on downhill slopes - very unsatisfactory. I also dont like that the US version engine is dialed back esp. in the lower power band. This car needs a mod-chip to reclaim that low-end power.

There is a reason that this is lower priced...quality is not good. Currently my Elantra with 44,235 has had 2 front bearings replace and a tie rod end. Window panel on door rusted out and its not covered!!! I needed to bring the car back with 33 miles due it not being properly prepped (tire air pressure at 15psi etc.) Warrenty is excellent and they fixed with no charge but beware, it will need fixing and often!

  • You get what you pay for! - 2001 Hyundai Elantra

I purchased the car as a commuter car. Highway gas mileage was poor considering the 4 cyl engine felt like it couldnt get out of its own way. Service at the dealership was sub- standard to say the least. I had to have the radio replaced , an electrical problem, 2 alignments, and a check engine light go on, all under 10,000 miles. Handling was very poor, especially in bad weather. Terrible in the snow for a front wheel drive car. Just recently involved in a frontal collision after hydroplaning in the rain on the highway. The car crumpled up like a tin can, AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY!

  • Excellent Car! - 2001 Hyundai Elantra

I have driven this car for two years and have had very few problems (all minor, so far). The car is very balanced with respect to gas mileage and performance. Build quality approaches the Japanese makes. This is easily the best compact car for the money!

  • Great Little Car, Better Dealer Service - 2001 Hyundai Elantra
    By -

I have 47,000 miles on car with no problems to date. Have enjoyed car so far. But the best part seems to be the excellent dealer service. Dealer will get car in and out quickly, and will provide a loaner car if my car will not be immediately available! With the new JD Power survey results (Hyundai is number 2 for quailty), Im hoping that the resale value will start to hold better. As for me, I will drive this car for at least another 100,000 miles or more(unless I trade it for a new Sonota).

  • The Perfect Car? - 2001 Hyundai Elantra

The hatchback, in particular, is a hot little number--bought a dark red one two days ago and Im already getting lots of looks. My automatic is downright peppy! Handling is quick and responsive, and the purple dash lights lend an opulent quality to the car. Having owned an Infiniti Q45, I was not just surprised, but SHOCKED at the features of this gorgeous little hatchback. Lets see what I have to say after I put some more miles on it, but as of right now, I can honestly say Ive never been happier with an auto purchase.

  • Nice Car, Horrible Company - 2001 Hyundai Elantra
    By -

While I enjoy driving my Elantra, and I cannot come close to saying the same for the company.7 months after purchasing they had made 7 attempts to fix it.The company paid me no attention until I filed for Lemon Law arbitration. The car was fixed another time between them contacting me the week before arbitration and offering me a settlement. The light recently came on again, #10, and now it is like pulling teeth to have them at least honor their agreement.Nevermind the fact that they will now be able to resell my car to another poor customer and make more profit off of it, they are now trying to make me pay for the scratches on my car which is being replaced.
