This Year's Model Updates:

Air conditioning becomes standard equipment on GS and GL models. Otherwise, Hyundai's bargain-basement car soldiers on to 2002 with no changes in store.

Pros:
  • Smooth ride, low price, impressive powertrain warranty.
Cons:
  • Unrefined demeanor, lack of standard equipment and amenities.

  • Accent beats all - 2002 Hyundai Accent

I have nothing but praises for my Accent. Weve owned several new cars of all price ranges and this is by far my favorite. The seating is very comfortable, car accelerates quick, smooth driving, controls convienent and styling is up there with the compact, exlusive models. My only complaint (as with most cars, too) is the seat belt. It rides too high across my chest and neck. Only one warranty situation. My rear brakes needed replacing within the first 2000 miles - were making a scraping noise. Dealer knew right away what it was and were replaced at no charge. Excellent and polite service. Had no problems since then. I get 32 mpg.

Have owned two Exels My 2002 Accent is by far the best raw $$ value on the market. Ive only owned 5 speeds w/o air. Automatic with air would be a big mistake with this car. Its a blast to drive. Sips gas. Buy only the base model w/o any options and you will not go upside down. I drive it 40 miles per day and its just a fantastic value If you dont finance it figure 19 cents to 20 cents/ mile even at $2.00 gallon for gas over 60,000 miles. Sell off at 55k for half of what you paid for it and buy another new one, Ok in the snow Strong heater Plenty of power with 5 speed no air. 37 mpg HW Good Stereo.

  • Upside down in value 2 times over! - 2002 Hyundai Accent

This vehicle was the biggest mistake ever! Ive had nothing but mechanical problems Im constantly taking it in for warranty work. I paid $12,000 for the car, but its only worth $2,900. The biggest problem is its losing $300 - $500 per month in value. So, I owe $8,000 on a car that is worth $3,000. Im making $400/mo payments on a $200/mo note to pay it off before its value drops to nothing and Id have to PAY someone just take take it off my hands. Im upside down 2 times over in a car thats 2 years old! The Hyundai Accent is the WORST vehicle Ive ever known. DO NOT BUY ONE... THERE IS NOT ONE POSITIVE ASPECT ABOUT OWNING THIS VEHICLE.

I have had my car for 2 years and love driving it. Its fun and zippy. I have a 5-speed and think its acceleration is pretty good. Its everything I expected for a $10,000 car. The backseat could be a little bigger, but other than that it suits me just fine.

My Accent GL, whcich has come to be known as "Meghan," is an excellent value. One of the few cars I could afford at 16, the fuel efficiency and reliability have proven extremely sanctuous for my wallet. The car is fun to drive, great on long trips, and does not stick out to state troopers so you can speed all you like (passed one at 20 + idiot in Hummer was distracting cop).

I have put 67,500 highway miles on my 02 accent. At 35,000 the car had a tune up, and I replaced the front pads and had the rotors turned at 48,000. The car runs fine with no breakdowns. It starts fine in below 0 weather.

  • Very good - 2002 Hyundai Accent

It is a nice no frill automobile. Main disappointment is fuel mileage. I expected around 45 mpg/ I should have done my homework better
