This Year's Model Updates:

Honda has made a number of enhancements to the 2004 Honda S2000. Most importantly, a larger 2.2-liter engine has been fitted. This, along with revised transmission gearing, is meant to improve power delivery. Other changes include updated suspension tuning, 17-inch wheels (16s were the previous standard), upgraded brakes, larger tailpipes and restyled front and rear bumpers with new headlights and taillights. Inside, there's a new center console (with two cupholders and a storage tray) and a bit more shoulder, elbow and hiproom for the driver and passenger. All Honda cars have a new seatbelt reminder system this year.

Pros:
  • Agile chassis, rev-happy engine, minimalist design, optional hardtop, high level of performance for the price.
Cons:
  • Still not much low-end torque, no passenger airbag cut-off switch.

  • Speed Buggy - 2004 Honda S2000

After purchasing this car in Florida, I immediately drove it 1300 miles in 2 days to Pennsylvania and the only complaint was that I had to put the top up due to rain. Even on a long road trip the car is just as comfortable if not more so than much larger luxury cars. The biggest problem is keeping the speed with in legal limits (yeah right). It feels just as smooth and tight at 80 as it does at 35. The main warning is that there is very little front end clearance and you have to watch out for potholes and rough roads not to mention curb damage in parking lots.

  • I love this little car and you will too. - 2004 Honda S2000

I bought this car when I was over 50 years old, so you can well imagine that this isnt the first car Ive ever owned. Ive owned Chevys, VWs, Cadillacs, Audis, two Porsches (a 9llT Targa and a 944) and a couple I just as soon not admit. Ive NEVER, however, had people literally run down the street after my car screaming at the top of their lungs at me in an attempt to find out what kind of car I was driving. That is: Until I bought this S2000. More strangers have walked up to me out of the blue to tell me how much they loved my S2000 than the total number of people that had ever said anything to me about all the previous cars Ive ever owned... and, the Porsches were beautiful cars.

  • In Love With Our S2000 - 2004 Honda S2000

This is our second S2000. Had an 03 at first & traded for an 04 only cause the 04 had some significant upgrades I liked better over previous years. Would be in an 06 but I dont see enough improvement over our 04 to buy an 06. I suspect I will be in an 07 thinking Honda will do some nice upgrades. Yet how can you upgrade what is & has been a PERFECT sports car. Ive driven the new Sky by Saturn & though it is cooler looking it doesnt even compare to the S2000 as doesnt a Miata or the new Pontiac Solstice. The S2000 is still the leader of the pack in small TRUE SPORTS CARS.

  • never buy black - 2004 Honda S2000
    By -

I said I would never buy black again. The last black rag top was a Sunbeam. Well I did, and I dont regret it one bit. In fact the car is black inside and out. Feel like a million in her and for a 72 year old, with cancer and all that entails, it is a miracle cure for me. Never had the top up and dont intend to. Wind is not a bother at 85, and at that speed, you cant hear the radio, so reception is not an issue.

  • excellent - 2004 Honda S2000
    By -

I have owned this car for 3 years...I have never driven a car that is so excellent. It just feels so much better when driving....than it does in other cars (boats), thats what most other cars feel like compaired to this accurate s2000.

  • Otter b. a. comfortable seat car - 2004 Honda S2000
    By -

I love my car . I have always had trucks . But the only thing I feel that is wrong is the softness of the seats. I drove it to NC and I was not pleased with it . short distances is fine . You need to work on comfort on the bottom of the seats. thank you for making a great car.

  • Tight and controllable - 2004 Honda S2000
    By -

Since day one, this car has been a pleasure. You tell it to turn, it turns immediately and not too much. You tell it to go, it goes and exceeds your expectations. Chicks galore! This car is the bomb, not A bomb, and affordable too. The only thing I could possibly complain about is how many times Ive spilled drinks in my lap or in my console because the drink holder/console is always full of change and other stuff that the drink doesnt fit.

  • Tight, fun and ready to run! - 2004 Honda S2000
    By -

I had to replace my 1998 M3 coupe and agonized for months for anything else with such near perfect combination of sharp handling, power and decent fuel economy. There were many worthy considerations including the g35 coupe (too heavy), the Mazda Rx-8 (too soft), and even the Mini Cooper S (too cute). But just one test drive in the S2000 snapping through the gears and carving up corners with surgical precision and the choice was easy.

  • Update after 35,000 miles - 2004 Honda S2000
    By -

First review was after owning for 5k miles. Current review is after two years. I can again confirm this was a smart purchase decision. Tire wear is always an issue with stock Bridgestone Potenza RE050s, but dry/wet grip is fanstastic. Also had the opportunity attent two open track days....well worth the money to get the experience. The S2000 handles fanstastically. Grin from ear to ear..cant wait to do it again. Criticisms: Rattling from convertible top latches second gear grind early in life, seems to have gone away unless cold temps passenger seatbelt rattles on door pannel/seat One last note: this car CAN be driven in the winter. Snow tires are a must and work great!
