This Year's Model Updates:

Changes to the 2006 Honda Pilot SUV include standard side curtain airbags for all three rows and freshened headlight, taillight and wheel designs. A maintenance minder system has also been added to all Pilots. The optional navigation system now has a 7-inch screen and a reverse-parking assist camera. The EX trim level now has standard foglights this year, and EXs with leather seating get standard XM Satellite Radio. Also new this year is a front-wheel-drive Pilot with Honda's fuel-saving Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) feature for its V6 engine. Finally, stated power output for the Pilot's V6 engine has dropped slightly due to Honda's adoption of a new SAE horsepower-rating procedure.

Pros:
  • Roomy interior with eight-passenger seating, versatile storage and cargo-hauling abilities, many standard features, comfortable ride, smooth power delivery.

  • Design Flaws - 2006 Honda Pilot

We know 6 people with 06 or late Pilots- all have been into dealer because mice crawled into to HVAC. Why? Its not covered enough in undercarriage. Design flaw. $250 each visit. Side trim on front leather seat on ours (and 3 others wecknow of) has worn through. Why? Cheap material. Design flaw. We get snow. Dont buy a Pilot with 4WD and expect anything but nasty control issues on slippery roads and steep roads: ABS locks up, auto 4WD has no bite (even with new mud/snow tires). Design flaws. If you need room, good traction and no mice or trim issues, buy something else.

  • Not so great - 2006 Honda Pilot

The vehicle is small and does not take bumps very well. The doors shut and make a noise like tin cans. The vehicle seems cheap and cant pull anything but a really small trailer (really small) Lots of road noise. If you look under the vehicle from the rear, the exhaust pipe looks funny the way it is routed. It hangs down and looks like a string of spegetti.

  • Think 3 times - 2006 Honda Pilot

Ask for a 6 cyl, and you get a car that drops to a 4 cyl to "save gas"! Well it isnt gas efficient, and if i wanted a 4 cyl, i would have bought a crv. this is not a comfortable car, road noise is loud, not very roomy for anyone over 53". honda could have done much better, for the sticker price. i now see why it was back on the lot just after a year, and only after driving it 45 days, it will be on the lot again!!!!

  • Think twice - 2006 Honda Pilot

Well, all the rave about the Pilot is over rated. Its a 6 cylinder...then a 4 cylinder! I needed a 6 cyl...as told repeated to the salesman...to tow heavy handicap equipment for my mother. I am disappointed in the road noise, but mostly Honda itself. Why tell people this is a great car? Maybe it is for most. But when you need specifics, Chapman Tucson should have directed me to something more to my needs. 30 days later, I am trading it in!

  • Buy German - 2006 Honda Pilot

Good on the highways, thats the only good part. Bought the one with a Navigation that has all outdated maps, windshield wipers that do not clean, bug paste literally sticks to low-quality windshield, lousy stereo (multiple problems with the subwoofer) and above all a not a great drive. Engine may be nice, but not fuel efficient if you want to feel a little of the rush. Body is literally made of tin !! Listen to me, buy something German, everything else is a cheap imitation !!! I plan to promptly return this after my lease, but wanted to save a few souls from getting into a similar trap !!!

  • Vibration - Shake, Rattle & Roll - 2006 Honda Pilot
    By -

I bought my 2006 AWD Honda Pilot EX-L RES in October of 2006. The Salesman was OK, but the rest of the Sales Staff was total HIGH PRESSURE and snobbish. This is my first Honda and my last. Its been in the shop 5 times since I bought it ONE month ago. It has such a severe vibration problem between 60-65 MPH that I cant stand to drive it. Check out the Pilot forums and you will see its a widespread problem that Honda refuses to fix. Overall, this vehicles build quality is absolutely the WORST of any vehicle I have ever owned. All I can say is " DONT BUY ONE ! "

  • So far, so many problems - 2006 Honda Pilot
    By -

First the good- love the interior room Now the not so good- at 500 miles discovered cv boot leaked all its grease- no rip/tear factory problem- rear speaker sounds blown- dealer adjusted bass-said it was fixed- the cv boot was fixed, not happy with the resolution of the other issues. I feel the vehicle is over-rated. MPG around 11 in city- I got 10 with my suburban. Why would Honda put cheap, poor handling tires on such an expensive vehicle? New tires make a big difference in handling. I am not impressed so far.
