This Year's Model Updates:

Changes to the 2006 Honda Pilot SUV include standard side curtain airbags for all three rows and freshened headlight, taillight and wheel designs. A maintenance minder system has also been added to all Pilots. The optional navigation system now has a 7-inch screen and a reverse-parking assist camera. The EX trim level now has standard foglights this year, and EXs with leather seating get standard XM Satellite Radio. Also new this year is a front-wheel-drive Pilot with Honda's fuel-saving Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) feature for its V6 engine. Finally, stated power output for the Pilot's V6 engine has dropped slightly due to Honda's adoption of a new SAE horsepower-rating procedure.

Pros:
  • Roomy interior with eight-passenger seating, versatile storage and cargo-hauling abilities, many standard features, comfortable ride, smooth power delivery.
Cons:

  • Its a HONDA. What more needs to be said - 2006 Honda Pilot

The Pilot is all that I had hoped it would be in quality and ride. I was a bit concerned about some reviews re road noise but it is quiet in my view. It is too new to judge long term but given that it is in the third year production, I am confident I will be even more happy. The ride feels more like a luxury car than an SUV.

I have owned many vehicles in my days, and this is my absolute favorite. The ride is amazingly quite and smooth for a truck. Because the residual value is so high (61%) and the low money factor being offered by Honda (I think .00115) there are great lease deals. I looked at the new 2006 Explorer first and it cant hold a candle to the Pilot.

Have had my Honda Pilot now for 2 years, just passed 50k miles! Still an outstanding value, even if the mileage (urban 18mpg Highway 21mpg) is not best. Great value, low maintenance, high utility for a mid-sized SUV and does extremely well in mid-atlantic winter ice/slush. Better than my previous Ford SUVs (Explorer, Bronco) and Mustang! Pilots rock! 3rd-seat roomy enough for 6 (not 8) adults or 2 large dogs! EX model AWD Pilot is a great total value SUV!

The only thing I can find wrong with my Pilot is the placement of the windshield wiper lever in relationship to the shift lever. It is comfortable & fun to drive and I am very happy with my choice. I show off my Pilot every place I go to anyone who’s interested

It is less than what I expected. Not that comfortable for the passenger. I think the passenger seat should also be automatic. Paint scratches too easy. For the money they could have done better. Not what you would expect out of Honda. Navigation system is not easy to use, waste of money.

My husband and I test drove all SUVs in the range of the Honda Pilot and selected the Honda based on space ( we have children and dogs),economy and look. It gave us the best of what we required for family and sports and ability to carry larger items. After almost one year of ownership we love it even more!

  • Typical Honda quality - 2006 Honda Pilot

I had to add a trailer hitch by the dealer (I needed it to tow my 2005 Goldwing) and I had to buy a real spare tire (I will buy a better quality of tire when I replace these Goodyears) and rear mud flaps. With that said, it is an outstanding running car. Most of the time it is in the eco mode (3 cyclinders). The visibility is outstanding (it is my wifes car). The GPS is great and so is the XM stations. I miss the automatic seat adjustments that my Acura has. Honda could add a few little items that would make their customers happier without stepping on their Acura brand

  • Love it! - 2006 Honda Pilot

I love my Pilot! The fact that it automatically goes into 4wheel drive is wonderful. I dont have to even think! I do wish it had the automatic headlights as my minivan had, but Ive learned to turn them on. Thats the ONLY complaint I have. Id pick this one again!

  • My great honda! - 2006 Honda Pilot

I have had my pilot for about 2 months now and I love it! It has plenty of space, and its pretty comfy for a honda because its my sixth one! One thing I was disappointed about was the sound system, because it sounds boxy. But Id still recommend it because i like the safety and pretty much everything else about it. Id like to say that it is a great family vehicle and great for some off roading.

  • Not so great - 2006 Honda Pilot

The vehicle is small and does not take bumps very well. The doors shut and make a noise like tin cans. The vehicle seems cheap and cant pull anything but a really small trailer (really small) Lots of road noise. If you look under the vehicle from the rear, the exhaust pipe looks funny the way it is routed. It hangs down and looks like a string of spegetti.
