This Year's Model Updates:

The 2005 Honda Pilot receives a new 255-hp engine, along with numerous functional changes. A tire-pressure monitoring system has been added, and EX models with leather get vehicle stability control. Slightly increased fuel capacity helps extend driving range, and a revised power steering pump provides improved on-center steering feel. Inside the cabin, the instrument panel has been tweaked with ambient lighting and a six-disc CD changer for all EX trims. A driver footrest has been added, and leather-upholstered EX models can now be had with a sunroof. The LX now has standard keyless entry, and all models get an integrated remote key and fob. Honda has made slight frame changes this year that resulted in improved IIHS crash test ratings.

Pros:
  • Roomy interior with eight-passenger seating, versatile storage and cargo-hauling abilities, many standard features, comfortable ride, smooth power delivery.
Cons:
  • Mediocre towing capacity, side curtain airbags not available, feels big behind the wheel.

love this suv. have not found a single thing to dislike. its got plenty of cargo space ( roomier than the mdx), which is great since we have a 2 yr old daughter and do a lot of traveling. you could not ask for better performance in a suv and the quality of materials and fit is superb. highly recommend it

  • Soccer Moms May Love It-I Sure Dont - 2005 Honda Pilot

Had it for 3 weeks, bought it brand new. Front end has a vibration right at 70 MPH which the dealer has so far been unable to correct. Check engine light came on after 2 weeks, and its in the shop for the 2nd straight day. It takes about 10 minutes to fill up the gas tank. At highway speeds, a little accelerator pressure results in constant downshifts and hunting for the right gear. Theres hesitation when slowing down and then hitting the gas. After having a Grand Cherokee V-8 for 8 years, this is a disappointing vehicle. Maybe it is a good soccer mom car to cruise around town in, but Im used to a traditional SUV, and this isnt traditional.

The 2005 Honda Pilot is well made in fit & finish. It travels well in comfort & limited road noise. It falls well short of the sticker advertised gas mileage however. Upon returning to the dealer because of 13 to 14 mpg, I was reminded of the 11 to 36 mph fine print. Futher, I was informed that all of the dealership Pilot owners were getting the same mileage. I also find the Pilot hard to start. It requires several overturns of the engine to start. The dealership check this and informed me that this is normal for all pilots. The handrail by the head could be hazardous in quick lateral moves or in accidents. A previous Honda owner, & disappointed.

First of two new Pilots we own. Bought a 2007 just because of how great this vehicle performs. We are a tall family and like the expansive window area. This one was hit(at 33000mi) in the rear by a 06 Infinity G35x. Totaled the Infinity but only damaged the rear bumper, tailgate, exhaust, driver, passenger seat and cross member. Honda repaired and drives straight as an arrow. Still very reliable at 49,000 mi. Need tires by winter(dealer say most pilots tires do not last this long-We drive city/hwy and mountain roads) Get 20 mpg with air conditioning on or off.

  • Honda is one of the best - 2005 Honda Pilot

The Honda Pilot rides very comfortable with a quiet engine that performs very well. In addition to the roomy interior with third row seating gas consumption is economical. This is definitely one for the entire family, unlike the Benz ML 350 which is disturbingly uncomfortable when it comes to handling and performance, but safer with lots of body steel.

  • Good all around Car - 2005 Honda Pilot

I waited until a nice long road trip to rate this car. Car was awesome on a 2400 mile round trip to FL and back with two kid,two strollers three big suitcases and all the stuff that goes along with a 3 year old and a 1 year old. Car got a little over 21 mpg. I think that is pretty good as I was averaging 80 mph with a loaded down car. Smooth, tight ride with plenty of power. I love the V6, lots of torque. I would improve a little on interior styling (which Honda may have already done). We were shopping for the 08 highlander and bought the 05 Pilot as the used highlanders werent big enough and the used pilot had similar space as the new Highlander and a much better price! Certified used.

  • You HAVE to test drive before decision! - 2005 Honda Pilot

I was interested in a 3-row vehicle and SUV. Knowing the terrible gas milage of most SUVs i started inclining to a van. Making a second trip to Honda Pilot, i fell in love with the 05 model. I STRONGLY SUGGEST DRIVING THIS VEHICLE BEFORE MAKING ANY DECISION!! The price is amazing for the things included - sunroof, amazing bose system, very reliable navigation system, leather, and a 3rd row seat with compromisable trunk space. I purchased this vehicle in black with saddle leather interior, and was amazed at the beauty, while being a Honda. We did our hw, and payed $31,500. The Acura MDX was our other option, but was ending up being $43,000+.

  • Cracked seats.. - 2005 Honda Pilot
    By -

Had drivers (leather) seat skin replaced twice in first two years because of cracked side panel. Replaced whole seat bottom including foam last year. That is three seats in less than three years. Now they say no more warranty to replace both front cracked seats. This on a car only three years old. Passenger seat is now cracked on the side panel as well.

  • So far so good... - 2005 Honda Pilot

We generally keep our cars for at least ten years. Were hoping the Pilot continues the streak. So far the its been a pleasure. Its our road trip vehicle, our hauling vehicle, and our dirt road vehicle. To this point its performed well in nearly every area.

  • My second Pilot in less than a month - 2005 Honda Pilot
    By -

I bought a Pilot for my wife April 19, 2005. So comfortable! But did not want to buy another SUV for myself, so bought Acura TL. Missed the seating height, the plush ride comfort and the soft seats of my wifes Pilot. Gas mileage was better than the TL. Guess what! Ended up trading the TL for another Pilot. Lost quite a bit of money but am extremely happy to have my second Pilot.
