  • Solid performer. Distractive, woeful electronics - 2016 Honda Pilot
    By -

If your a looking for a large, roomy family-orientated SUV that handles well, looks good, is comfortable to travel in and gets surprisingly good mileage for its size, look no further. However, if electronics are your big thing then let me tell you they were designed by people who probably did not have to ever use them- so they let "concept" get ahead of "usefulness" and the result is an electronics package that is distractive to the driver to use, and frankly plain dangerous on the road for that reason. Simply put, you have to look at the large and gorgeous display a few extra seconds (too long) to find anything, taking your eyes off the road for an extra 2-3-4 seconds which is sure to produce some bad accidents. They stuffed everything but the kitchen sink on that display. Too much information crammed in one place. Considering that these geniuses for some ethereal reason put Apple Carplay in their other cheaper vehicles, but not the high end Pilot is beyond bad decision-making, it is just plain dumb. I love the car (ITS A GREAT VEHICLE), I say that having owned it nearly a year, and it replaced my recent model LEXUS RX which was smaller, got worse mileage, had no 3rd row seats, and cost about $12k more, with a front end that looks like it just sucked on a lemon (the Lexus, not the Honda)-- everything about this SUV is GOOD NEWS- except- this distractive and poorly designed entertainment center.

Great purchase!! 9 speed transmission shifts rough and high premium for elite trims.

Love the 2016 Pilot. Rides and handles well. Economic features include idle shut off when at traffic lights or stopped for short periods. Takes some getting used to and was annoying initially. Push button gear shifter and heated seats are a nice feature. Electronic controls for navigation and phone are also voice activated. Good cargo space with rear seats folded down. Would have loved the panoramic moonroof but only available on the Elite model. Overall good value and worth consideration when shopping for an SUV.

  • Nice Car But it Has a Few Design Issues - 2016 Honda Pilot

The 2016 Pilot looks great and runs fantastically. My chief complaint is the fact that the passenger side mirror doesnt have the camera. I assumed the highest end model would have the camera when I ordered my 2016 Pilot. I was extremely disappointed to find it doesnt. I have a 2014 Accord with the camera and have grown to depend on it for safety reasons. I wish Honda would offer an "after market" camera for the passenger side. If I had know this I would have ordered the Touring edition. I am not a happy camper with Honda.

The Infotainment System is the most frustrating, poorly designed, inaccurate and user "unfriendly" system on the market!

I want other owners to know that I bought a new 2016 Honda Pilot because I bought the first year 2009 Honda Pilot and drove it to 176k with no problems. I liked the old Honda and bought in to the new Honda because of the safety features and improved fuel economy. The bad I can safely say after driving the fist 2,500 miles with the new Honda Pilot, this car is garbage. The fit and finish is horrible (needed to have two of the plastic panels replaced because they warped), needed to have the entire head unit taken off of the car because of an annoying noise (first 100 miles and two days in the shop), now the navigation system doesnt recognize commands, the stereo is anemic and often crackles and hisses. The only way to stop this is to turn the car on an off. So in a total of one month the car has been in the shop for a total of four days. This in comparison to the 2010 that never had an issue. The good The safety features are great. The lane departure, lane assist, adaptive cruise and front end collision all work great. The econ also works great as I am consistently getting 30 mpg combined city and highway. That being said those are the pluses.

  • Our 6th Honda!! - 2016 Honda Pilot

We have owned 5 different Hondas in the last 11 years, passing down the older models to our growing children. This Honda Pilot touring AWD is by far the nicest of them. I researched this vehicle for two months before it even came out and has definately been worth the wait. This will be a vehicle that we will keep until it dies! It has everything you would need and more. I still havent said, " I just wish it had_____." I dont think I will. I have the power I love with all of the conveniences, and most importantly, the space I need, wrapped up in a stylish new package.

We traded a 2012 Subaru Outback on this Honda Pilot EX AWD. The Pilot has the tow capacity we need for our small camper when in the mountains. Towing with the Pilot is very nice. Much less stress on me. Towing MPG is about the same as the Outback. The backup camera is great for hitching up the camper. The right turn camera is nice for lane changes. My camper has a full time rear view camera so the right turn camera is merely nice not great. Weve been seeing the highway MPG increasing as the engine gets some miles on it. Weve seen 28-29 mpg in ECO mode. Its a much bigger car than the Outback so it took a while to get used to. The handling isnt as crisp as the Outback but its fine. So far traction in snow has been good. The first test was demanding - climbing a 4 mile mountainous road in the snow that was not plowed. Coming back down was fine although I was nervous. Cons: No CD player! Its such a standard feature we never even checked until we wanted to play a book on CD. The entertainment system sounds fine but very disappointed with the user interface. The touch screen is clumsy and potentially dangerous for the driver to operate. There are some remote controls on the steering wheel which which help but their functions are limited.
