This Year's Model Updates:

As the model was fully redesigned for the 2003 model year, there are only a few changes on the 2004 Honda Accord. Availability of side curtain airbags has been expanded this year to four-cylinder EX models -- standard on those with leather, optional on cars with a cloth interior. All four- and six-cylinder EX models equipped with a leather interior now have XM Satellite Radio with three months of free service as standard equipment. And as with all Honda cars this year, a new seatbelt reminder system is standard. Accord models meeting California's stringent Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (PZEV) standards -- all four-cylinder sedans equipped with automatic transmission -- will also be sold in the states of New York, Maine, Vermont and Massachusetts.

Pros:
  • Tight build quality, quiet cabin, refined and powerful engines, reputation for quality and durability, high crash test scores.
Cons:

I have a 2004 Accor EX-L v6 coupe. I bought the thing on craigslist and it had a dirty title. Some very shifty stuff that the carfax did not explain such as a "flood-branded title" and a "total loss" that occured in May 2006. Somehow this thing has the dirtiest carfax Ive ever seen, but it was taken to the dealer over 10 times (on carfax) for typical maintenance. I was told the timing belt was changed, it wasnt. So I spent 1300 on that w/ water pump, etc. Get a load of this, the car had a leaking rack and pinion and that costed me another 1000. I need to drive another accord because my mechanic gave me a high performance rack and pinion and this thing handles like a dream (maybe it should its brand new "rebuilt"). Bottom line....I got the car a year ago with 144,500 miles. It now has 147,445. I do not drive that much but did drive from DC to Boston 3 times and the car was a dream. Again, this is an old car, but if you notice that a lot of accords are on the road, it is for a reason. The fact that someone probably abused my car and it was in a flood (i really think it was not b/c 3 mechanics couldnt find any water damage or accident damage). As long as my tranny holds up (auto) I should be good. If you are a original owner and have kept up your maintence, keep the car. if you buy a v6, the rack and pinion goes at 90k-120k miles ive noticed from friends accords. They are great cars and I will throw another tranny in if needed because my car with its title is worthless and to me its worth 10 grand because of how well it works now. if you need new auto tranny, definitely look at willow creek out of SC. They fixed the tranny prob that the 03-07s had. but 02-06 is the real problem years for the auto tranny. Accord and Camry are 2 most reliable cars in the world and 4 cylinders are even more reliable but who wants a 4 cylinder? the 3.0 is a beast (has an electronic throttle that has a problem just live Rav4) very peppy at first.

Driverside room: Head is too close to the roof; the steering wheel has to be pointed toward face to allow leg room. The 4-Cylinder: On the highway - engine makes a lot of noice to get up to speed. The Voice Activation Navi-System disappointing. Has to be fairly quiet to hear voice commands. Highway noice disrupts it. The air conditioning turned on several times b/c of this (its winter) If its raining... Not totally voice activated; requires manual input. Dont like the Navis newer display. Its harder to see. The silver molding around the windows - Yuk Gas milage: not as good as I thought it would be. Advertised 30-38 city/hwy.

After owning a 1998 A4 and loving how it drove, but hating the numerous little mechanical failures I went back to Honda in November, 2003. Love the comfort and reliability of the car. Miss the all-wheel drive and handling of the A4, but nothing else.

I have the 2003 model essentially the same. Transmission leaks twice. Tensioner pulley went out. Motor Mounts installed incorrectly. Windows being scratched by something in door. Trunk liner sagging. Rattling in back. Key is hot when you pull it out. Automatic tranny slugish after 40mph. Springs are too soft. Get some eibach sport kit springs. Steering wheel fading and armrest. Noisy idle when air conditioner on. Air conditioner recycles a lot. Paint kind of cheap. Ding city so try not to park by people. Aero line asking for dings. Dont get the Paint protector rip off! You can hear wind noise from windshield. Brakes shake a little.

  • Excellent Car and Value - 2004 Honda Accord

This car is smooth and accelerates well, although the handling could be improved slightly. The quality is excellent. This is our third and best Accord yet. XM Radio is great feature and stereo is great for stock. We purchased ours for $23,800, which was $1,400 less than Edmunds True Market Value for zip code at the time.

I know Hondas have a great reputation and that is why I bought mine. Great the first year, then the brake system fell apart. I am on my 3rd master cylinder already. Either the dealer mechanics are poorly trained, or there is something seriously wrong with the system itself. After driving for 32 years, and never having replaced a master cylinder, all I can say about Honda is that I am less than impressed.
