This Year's Model Updates:

Honda takes a bold leap for 2005 with the introduction of the Hybrid Accord. Rather than add a hybrid motor to its four-cylinder, Honda bolts its third-generation IMA system to the Accord's already-potent V6. In one fell swoop the Accord hybrid has become the class leader in fuel economy (30 city, 38 highway) and power (255 horsepower). Other changes for the 2005 Honda Accord this year include new wheel cover designs for the LX and EX trims, a new coin pocket design, illuminated steering wheel controls and improved rear styling in sedans with redesigned taillamps. In addition, front-seat side airbags and full-length head curtain airbags are now available on all trim levels all the way down to the base DX model.

  • The New Accord Hybrid - 2005 Honda Accord

I would have preferred to wait a year to let the prices come down a bit and to make sure the new Accord Hybrid would be as good a car as my last Accord (95 wagon, 168k miles). I have had absolutely no reason to regret my purchase. The car is a dream to drive -- tight, responsive handling and ride, real performance (without guilt). I have found no defects in 6 months and over 6,000 miles. The Nav. system is both fun and useful and the sound system is great. The car routinely gets 37 mpg or more at interstate speeds and averages 25 mpg on my 20 mile mixed commute. The transition from economy mode (3 cylinders) to full power is virtually undetectible. I love my new Accord!

This is the second Honda hybrid Ive owned. I traded a Civil in for my present Accord. It doesnt get the same gas milage as the Civic but is one of the most comfortable cars Ive ever owned. It is a joy. Nothing gives me more pleasure than to see Hummers and monster SUVs parked at gas pumps as I drive by.

  • Third and Counting - 2005 Honda Accord

This is my third Accord and the third Accord I love. I gave up the last one with 194,000 miles and it now has over 250,000. After a brief stint with a 94 Acura, Im back with the Accord and its a wonderful car to drive. Its very comfortable and the heated seats are great this time of year. Driving up a mountain was easy the one time I did. The car has very good road manners and the steering is much better than I thought. The power is more than sufficient for everyday driving and if you dont watch yourself you can drift into speeds that get you the ticket I got 2 months ago.

  • ENGINE PINGING IN 2ND GEAR - 2005 Honda Accord

Great car, lots of room, great pickup & gas mileage. we have discovered a metallic pinging noise in the engine as you accellerate through 2nd gear. We have tried different gas stations & octane levels. Engine continues to ping.

  • my accord experience - 2005 Honda Accord

I bought an EX-V6 before this one and find the hybrid much better in quality. My EX-V6 squeaked and rattled loudly after 1K miles, well see how this one does (hybrid feels better put together). The ride feels much better and i like the electric steering. Gas mileage is *HIGHLY* variable -- 10 to 20 in rush hour traffic but 25-40 while moving around town. 35-45 mpg on highway where vcm really helps out. overall better acceleration than EX-V6, but accelerating keeps the car in V6 mode and thus you wont realize gas savings. Therefore, you can save on gas, but you have to work @ it -- dont be a lead foot and drive @ off peak hours. Other features it shares with EX-V6 work just as well.

Great car with great gas mileage. Who would expect anything less from Honda. The only drawback is the lack of a real spare tire; however, there is room for one if desired. I had a moon roof added to mine because they dont include one as standard equipment - I was told its because of weight. I cant say that Ive noticed a mileage difference because of it.

  • safe car - 2005 Honda Accord

Was hit in right front by driver passing light. Airbag (side and seat) deployed perfectly. No significant injury in hard hit. Happy to have the side airbags. Very user friendly and ergonomic controls, best I have ever had. Stiff ride, could be a bit lighter sprung for comfort, but may impede handling. Has a "big" feel, not a sporty small car feel. 5 speed is not smooth, and downshifts when braking are noticeable. Air comes on with a clunk when first put on. Brakes are feathery and needs a light touch, same with accelerator, but stops and goes well. Acceleration is very good with automatic, highway ride is smooth and sure footed.

  • Mix of Power and Economy - 2005 Honda Accord

The 2005 Hybrid is a vast improvement over the 1998 Accord Coupe V6 that I previously owned. The ride is smoother, the vehicle is much quieter--with the exception of some road noise. Mileage on pure highway driving is exceptional, slightly better than the EPA rating in my experience. City driving can vary significantly depending upon conditions. My experience is between 23 and 27 mpg in town, averaging a little over 24 for city driving. In my opinion thats pretty good for a powerful V6. Transition between modes of power: IMA + gasoline engine, 6 cylinder gasoline power and three cylinder power (with and without assist) is usually very smooth, but occasionally noticeable.

  • 1 year later... - 2005 Honda Accord

I set myself a reminder to write a 1- year review of my 2004 Accord...and here I am. Ive put 18,000 miles on it and have enjoyed all of them. I wanted an historically reliable car that I wouldnt have to think about for 10 years and I feel confident I made the right choice. I would recommend it to anyone.
