Model Overview:

Few vehicles from overseas manufacturers have garnered as much respect in North America as the Honda Accord. It hasn't achieved this status by being glamorous, sexy or thrilling. Instead, Honda just seems to have its finger on the pulse of what Americans value most. Take an Accord for a spin and you'll find it to be comfortable, roomy, intelligently engineered and easy to drive. It's also backed by strong resale value and a solid reputation for reliability.

You'll find that certain competing sedans and coupes are quicker, more prestigious or simply less expensive than the Accord. What's special about the Honda Accord, though, is its completeness. It scores well across a broader range of categories than practically any family-friendly sedan or coupe on the market. When examined from this holistic standpoint, it's easy to see why the Accord has become an automotive icon and remains one of our editors' top recommendations.

Weve had lots of problems with our 2001 Honda. For starters the paint started peeling and the dealer and Honda refused to back it. Had to essentially repaint the car in 3 spots. Over the years other things went- gas gauge, transmission, now the interior lights go on and off when going over bumps. Any work done at the dealer was double the costs as elsewhere. The ride is fine in town, but on the highway is poor and very light - can feel the car moving on windy days. Very surprised that Honda gets such good ratings when this ranks as our lowest quality car- including other GM vehicles.

  • 16 Years And Still Going - 1993 Honda Accord

I figured I wouldnt keep my new Accord for more than 10 years, tops. 16 years later its still going strong. The only major repairs have been clutch, master & slave brake cylinders, radiator, oil seals and an engine mount. I also had the timing belt and water pump replaced twice but only as preventative measures, not because they failed. Not bad for a 16-year-old car. We kept thinking about trading it in but thought "why?" its been such a good car. The A/C still blows cool even on the hottest days in Phoenix. It also gets excellent gas millage (30 MPG). New Accord seats are too stiff on long drives so we wont replace with a new one. They dont make them like this anymore.

  • 6 year old car turning into a money sink - 2003 Honda Accord
    By -

Issues during the first 6 years included rapid brake wear, radio/AC backlight failure, ignition failure (6 ignition coil plus labor is a $1000 repair). The transmission never seemed to work right and I took the car in 2 weeks after we bought it (only to be ridiculed by the service transmission). It went in again for the transmission recall in 2004. The transmission fluid was changed at 111k miles in 2008 (well before the required 120k). Less then 6 months later the transmission went out. First gear only, no reverse. A faulty torque converter, the cause for the jerky shifts from 1st to 2nd gear that many experience, burned up the transmission.

  • Love my 03 Accord - 2003 Honda Accord

Ive owned 5 Honda products since 1989 - 3 Accords and 2 TLs, and this one is pretty incredible. Less expensive, faster and quieter than my 99 TL, but much better equipped than any Accord Ive ever owned. But the best part is the way it performs on the snow (I live in the midwest). It goes better than the wifes Olds 88, and thats saying something.

  • Good Car - 2004 Honda Accord

I have had the honda for about a year now and I love it. Have had an accord before and various american cars. Quality of Japanese cars is so much better. If you have only had american cars look at consumer reports on japanese cars. They are bullet proof! I had my other accord for 10 years with only maintence done on it. Never had problems with it like my american cars.

  • Bad Experience - 2002 Honda Accord

I will never buy another Honda product. I have had to have the transmission rebuilt twice in this vehicle. Once at 77,00 miles, and again at 103,00. American Honda offered no assistance when I contacted them. Search the internet and youll find numerous complains about problems with failed transmission on this model. Im going back to Toyota for my next car purchase.

  • Super Car and Very Crashworthy - 2002 Honda Accord

Ive had my 02 Accord since 1/5/02 and have loved every minute of owning it! (I previously had a Prelude for 11 years.) The ride is very smooth and comfortable on long trips. As a V-6 EX, fuel economy on the long trip was very good & about average for city driving with the "MAX AUTO" heating/cooling setting. My Accord was also the victim of an accident in January (a panel truck ran a red light and hit an oncoming car head on. This collision caused the back end of the panel truck to go airborne and land on the hood of my 2 week old car! The only damage to my Accord was a crumpled hood on the left side where the truck was resting.
