Model Overview:

Few vehicles from overseas manufacturers have garnered as much respect in North America as the Honda Accord. It hasn't achieved this status by being glamorous, sexy or thrilling. Instead, Honda just seems to have its finger on the pulse of what Americans value most. Take an Accord for a spin and you'll find it to be comfortable, roomy, intelligently engineered and easy to drive. It's also backed by strong resale value and a solid reputation for reliability.

You'll find that certain competing sedans and coupes are quicker, more prestigious or simply less expensive than the Accord. What's special about the Honda Accord, though, is its completeness. It scores well across a broader range of categories than practically any family-friendly sedan or coupe on the market. When examined from this holistic standpoint, it's easy to see why the Accord has become an automotive icon and remains one of our editors' top recommendations.

  • Reasonably good car, not a fun ride - 2004 Honda Accord
    By -

Purchased new in 2004. Its a good all around car at a good price when new, but it doesnt really excel at anything. V6 is sort of fast, but the transmission is weak (just replaced at 75k) and handling is only average (stock suspension and tire size). Considering the lack of handling, it still rides very rough over cracked pavement has some rattles inside and out. Leather seats are fairly low grade. Carpets and roof liner had some minor defects when new, couldnt be fixed. Stereo is only average at best and was recalled and replaced. Ive had a few other minor repairs and the break pads wear quickly. If buying used, look for one with the transmission and stereo already replaced.

  • This car screams reliability, not style - 2000 Honda Accord
    By -

I bought this car from my uncle with 89k. Have had absolutely zero problems the only maintenance Ive done is a routine timing belt change (along with the water pump, which I figured I might as well replace w/ belt). Have not had the major transmission issue that seems to be common in the Honda V6 however, the tranny does hesitate between 1st and 2nd. The V6 is very quick, but I do not get very good gas mileage (20 in the city, 27 on highway) for a car of this size. Is not a head turner, but gets me from point A to point B in comfort and without problems.

  • I love my Accord but - 2002 Honda Accord
    By -

I bought this car 2 years ago and it has been very reliable. Once I had a starter problem which I replaced myself. This car only have 38, thousand miles on it but already it seems like its beginning to develop transmission problems. At first I started hearing a little whirring, almost imperceptible sounds. Now its like a siren. Its takes eternity to shift from 3rd to 4th gear. When its slowing to a stop, I feel the tranny slams into a first gear. The fuel econ is not so great, but then again I live on a hilly island of St Thomas usvi.

  • 90,000 miles and better than new. - 2003 Honda Accord
    By -

Ive owned this car since December of 02, and have enjoyed every mile Ive driven it. Honda recalled it to fix a potential transmission problem at 30,000 miles. I put new tires on it at 70,000 miles, which made it a much better car. The only other repair has been new front brakes at 80,000 miles. The car looks new, feels new, and with the new tires, rides and handles better and quieter than new. I cant find any reason to buy a new one, and plan to put another 90,000 miles on it.

  • By far the best car i ever owned - 2007 Honda Accord
    By -

Car has 70,000 miles and has operated perfectly with only regular scheduled maintenance. I have driven for forty years and never, never owned a car like this. Car gets 31 on interstate and 20 driving in NYC. Replacement tires after 65,000 miles and brakes at 60,000 miles. Four cylinder engine is quick for maneuvering through new york city traffic.

  • Good but not great - 2001 Honda Accord
    By -

Its been very reliable but the threat of transmission failure hanging over my head has always annoyed me. I change the ATF every 20K. I bought a Honda for reliability and not to think about the poorly designed A/T. MPG is only OK for a 4 cylinder. Im not crazy about Hondas insistence on using only genuine Honda fluids. The A/Chas never been freezing cold like some other cars Ive owned. Despite all my complaining it has been a good car. Its just that when you buy a Honda you expect so much. I feel the motor will do 200K but the tranny wont. Id buy a Ford Fusion next.

  • Just a headache - 2005 Honda Accord
    By -

This was my first import car, and I was not impressed at all. The reliability for the car is great, but small annoying things always go wrong. The driver seat started squeaking and making noises at 38000 miles and no dealership would help me unless I would buy a new $1200 seat. The interior makes bad noises over all the bumps and the I4 engine seems underpowered and noisy. The radio has static everywhere and the speakers are already blown out and I never turned the radio up past half way. The dealership also said this was normal. If you get a Honda, at least dont service one at a Honda dealership.

  • Wish I Could Keep It - 1997 Honda Accord
    By -

The only reason I am buying a new car, and turning the beloved 97 LX wagon over to a relative, is that my leg can no longer handle any clutch and the car has a standard transmission. Otherwise, Id pay what it took to restore! The windows are slow, and some plastic pieces broke (holding visor and rear cargo space cover). Hubcaps paint peeled but new ones werent expensive. Has had good mechanical attention. Timing belt replacement at recommended mileage was difficult per an excellent mechanic who said he wont do it after the next 100,000 miles. Had 2 axle boots replaced, but the originals might have been weakened by being hit in the side by 2 big deer almost simultaneously. Tough car.

  • A little disapointed - 2009 Honda Accord
    By -

Hondas reliability and great resale value carried the day, so I bought one. On balance my Accord has been reliable transportation without too much to complain about. That said, if you fancy yourself a "car" person then do yourself a favor and consider buying something else. There is nothing in an 09 Accord to get very excited about nor terribly disappointed with. The premium 270 watt stereo is on par with a good bed side table top clock radio. The ride is road connected, to me bumpy and a little noisy even with the best new Michelin summer tires installed recently. Its car 101. Plain, simple, safe, reliable, boring transportation.
