Great car, love most of it

  • Bought new, @ 47k miles it required a new starter - 2014 Honda Accord

I bought my 2014 Honda Accord V6 EX-L w/Navi new in June 2014 at Anderson Honda, Palo Alto. I had serviced at regular intervals at the Honda dealership. At 47,000 miles it needed a new starter and battery replacement. Ive owned used Hondas since 1992 and this was my very first new car (at age 43). My 1991 Civic ran flawlessly for over 300k miles! I selected Honda for its history of reliability having worked at dealership during my college years I knew first-hand how consistent the vehicles were. This 2014 vehicle has been a total disappointment. The Navi system is sub par and you have to pay for map updates, if you have XM radio you cant scan from your steering wheel and the song titles are truncated, the panel connected to the driver seat adjustments has fallen off, and after only 30k miles the starter was giving me issues. For nearly a year Id get nervous once I sat my car wondering if itll start ok. Finally the starter failed and my battery died so I just spent $865 to have it replaced. When I buy my next car I doubt Ill buy Honda again.

This car is simply amazing, Im pretty much in love with it. I sat in the front, the passenger, the back seats, all the seats are extremely comfortable. I really do not know what all the complaining is about. I am 510 and 200lbs of medium muscular build and this car fits me perfectly. The performance of the car is amazing. The engine puts out intense power for its small size and fuel economy is still at 40mpg when you are driving it properly. The "Eco" button is great. The car holds the road very stable and the suspension is a smooth ride. It feels like a caddilac. A little rougher over bumps and stuff than I expected but that is probably because it still has factory tires. Someone said the trunk is small. Sorry guys, this trunk is utterly massive. You could literally fit two grown adults inside it and have room to spare. Someone complained about folding seats. As far as I am aware my back seats do not fold down at all. This isnt an issue for me. The interior is so spacious, luxuriant, and aesthetically attractive as well as utilitarian and useful, that I simply could not ever criticize any one thing about it. Everything down to the spring-loaded cupholder that "hugs" your cup so that any size cup fits it. The rear windows are positioned so well and so large that checking my blindspots or seeing behind me could not possibly be any easier. The shifting is liquid smooth when you do it properly and the steering response is incredible. I have driven over 3,000 miles now and these are literally the only two complaints I have: There is no gear indicator. Is this really necessary? No. Would it be nice? Yeah. But who cares. I cannot adjust the brightness on my instrument panel (Tach, speedo, etc.). It is available on some models, but apparently not mine. This makes no sense to me. So, for all the things that you could complain about in a car, the seats, the performance, the price, the interior, any of it, I literally could only find two infinitesimal and non-issue things to complain about. Buy this car today.

  • Buyers Beware - 2014 Honda Accord

The battery AND the starter had to be replaced and the car only has 40,000 miles.....not under warranty because Hondas warranty expires 3 years or 36,000 miles. The starter was around $900 and it only has a 12 month/12,000 mile warranty. So in within 2 months, Im out $1100 for repairs. Ive owned 5 Hondas and this has been the worse one. Ive read that a lot of people are having the same problems with Honda models years 2013-2015. I will be getting rid of this car before the starters warranty expires. Also, theres a lot of wind noise in this Honda when driving on the freeway. Has good gas mileage. I traded in a Kia Optima for this Honda and Im sorry to say this but I should have kept the Optima.

  • DONT BUY THIS CAR - 2014 Honda Accord

This car rides like an old army jeep. If you are in the passenger seat, you will lose your false teeth if you hit a small bump. It seems they took a standard Accord and just cranked down the suspension as far as it would go thinking they would somehow make it perform like a BMW. Next, these crack engineers decided that anyone who purchased this car would not have the intelligence to make their own decisions, so they decide for you when they want to AUTOMATICALLY LOCK YOU OUT OF THE CAR. For example, if you come home from Costco with your car fully loaded and want to unload the trunk first, dont leave your keys in the car on the seat, because with the trunk open and while you are humping your groceries into the house, the car will decide to lock you out after 30 seconds. And, yes, I have contacted the dealer and read their 385 page manual written in 47 languages and there is no solution to this problem. And, lets say you are driving with your lights on during the day for extra protection against other drivers, who are sharing their attention with their smart phones, and you stop to let a passenger do some shopping while you wait for them with the engine off. You can do that, but keep a tow truck number close at hand, because the lights will not turn off and, of course, there is no warning since you did not open your door. This is a slam-bang, cheap imitation wannabe of a quality performance car, that will, unfortunately, last as long as any Honda and still hold its value. A nightmarish thought for sure.

I wouldnt recommend buying the 2014 Honda Accord. It has a major safety issue and it isnt reliable. Ive called AAA several times for a jumpstart. The dealer says there isnt a problem with the car but they are WRONG!. I bought the car new and emergency jumper cables were included with the purchase. Hmm, I wonder why?

  • Now we have numerous complaints about the car. - 2014 Honda Accord

The car is like a crackerjack box on wheels. Very difficult to enter or exit the car. Very, very poor condition of car for delivery. Delivery condition of car was very dirty. Dealer did not tell us that the car had 85 miles on it intil the paper work was signed. Got rid of the car March 31, 2016. Bought a 2016 Toyota Camry. Did not hesitate to get rid of this vehicle as soon as I could. Again, Very little dealer support from Sunnyside Honda.
