  • Amazing Car! - 1994 Geo Prizm

I have been driving this car for 5 years now and I have no complaints. I regularly drive the length of California and Ive never had a problem.I also take it over many passes and through the mountains regularly. It starts every time and gets great gas mileage. For the money its a steal. It doesnt have many interior perks, but it does everything I need.

Keep thinking I need to keep an eye out for my "next" vehicle, but I realize thats stupid because this one wont die and shows no sign it ever will. Now at 138,000 miles. Multiple coast to coast trips during transfers in the Marines, three years in storage while overseas, still starts instantly, runs perfectly. 31-32 mpg in mixed city/hwy driving and over 37 mpg in pure interstate cruising at 80 mph on my last trip! Alternator is Achilles heel had to replace at 48,000 and again when it came out of storage, but got one w/a lifetime warranty from a national repair chain and no problem since then. Handling, acceleration are far from inspiring, but adequate. The car Timex wouldve built.

Ive had two 94 Prizm LSIs - a manual I had from new that died in an impact at 149K and the replacement which I got at 110K and is now at 170K. Both cars needed alternators, replacement CV shafts (cheap $80 each and easy to replace - gets rid of the clunking when you tap the gas), both cars stripped wheel studs, radios died and knobs break. New car distributor at 160K. Old car drank quarts of oil towards the end but I blame my lead foot for that. New one does not drink a drop. I check the valve clearances every 60k when I do the timing belt - no adjustment needed. Front wheel bearings need to be repacked and adjusted occasionally (non-ABS). This car should last forever if not crashed or thrashed.

I bought this car new in 1994 and have never had a major problem. The alternator went out around 100,000 and was replaced. I have 160,000 now and hope for 200,000. It leaks a little oil but this is from the oil pan and not the engine. It can be fixed. Always starts. I get 32 mpg and hope to drive this thing forever (now that I have a new van to pay for). The AC still works like new. The engine is as quiet as day one and it handles well on snow and ice. Left my wedding reception in this car, brought my first child home from the hospital in this car, and hope to take her to college in this car. If you ever get a chance to buy a good used one. Take it!

  • Keeping It In the Family - 1994 Geo Prizm

I bought the car in 2/2001 for my 16- year-old daughter. It had 125K on it at the time. The only repair I have made was to replace the alternator (this occurred shortly after I bought it). Now at 150K, it is being handed down to my younger daughter who recently turned 16. The car has survived Ohio weather for 11 years and now will be spending its "old age" (I think these cars age slower than most...its got to be that Toyota reliability factor) in South Carolina. It still looks and runs great, and my daughter cant wait to put a CD player in it!

  • Absolutely Reliable - 1994 Geo Prizm

This car never lets you down. Very good gas mileage. Handles pretty well. Only needs routine maintenance. No breakdowns. Looks classy too. The rear seatback fold down feature that enlarges the trunk is handy.

  • Cant kill it - 1994 Geo Prizm

Bought it w/22 K on it, average 35 K per yr. Now has 190,000. Hoping for 250,000. Unbelievably reliable - oil change every 3,500, brakes, alternator, timing belt @75 K and 1 clutch. Goes anywhere and excellent mileage - still about 35 mpg. Tight ride.

  • Why wont it die???!!! - 1994 Geo Prizm

Only one repair in 11 years! Alternator went. The CD player bit it at about 100,000. I just put a changer in the trunk. The car looks like it has 40,000 miles on it instead of 125,000. I would love something new, but how can I justify it when the inside including the upolstery is pristine, it gets 33 miles per gallon every tank, it never leaks oil, and it even has the original brakes (I keep asking if they need replaced at every routine maintanence. They say there is still 25% remained.) Has never not started.

Bought it with about 25k on the clock in 1997. Chose it over the corolla precisely because it was a toyota at a chev price. What can I say, this has been an *insanely* reliable car. Now at 180k, and still going strong. Outside of oil and tires Ive only ever replaced an alternator and power steering pump. I do run 10W40 in the summer or it does burn a little. Still on the original rear brakes and muffler! Im only considering replacing it now because the (original!) front struts have gone south over the last 6 months. The body is still almost rust free after 10 years in Minnesota. Its never left me stranded.

  • 155,000 miles - No major engine problems - 1994 Geo Prizm
    By -

This car is built to last. I began driving a 1994 Geo Prizm in December, 2002. The car had 140,000 miles on it and had never had any major engine problems. The car was driven 80 miles into the city of Chicago and back, 6 days a week for 5 years, and the car is still running strong. 1 fender-bender, no damage.
