This Year's Model Updates:

This year, Ford introduces its version of the front-wheel-drive minivan. Designed to replace the archaic Aerostar, the Windstar offers a wealth of standard equipment. Dual airbags, antilock brakes, a four-speed automatic transmission and V6 power are just a few of the features included in the base price. The Windstar seats seven and has an integrated child seat: an attractive feature for the family with toddlers.

BLOWN HEAD GASKETS at 67,749 - 78,330 - 116,731 miles. Note that the two repairs failed to last as long as the original (which was an acknowledged design or manufacture defect). Each time the dealer claimed the problem has been resolved and now Ford has refused to extend their arbitrary 7 year 100,000 mile program. There is no reason to expect a "factory trained technician" is any more qualified to fix these problems than an independent mechanic. Yes, I had the TRANSMISSION BUILT too.

It has had a new lower engine. Then replaced Head Gaskets, Then the whole engine, then ABS sensors, then front rotors, then continuous engine check lites, then Airbag light, then speedometer goes haywire. IT DOESNT STOP. Rear windows stopped closing. Power locks stoppped working. NEVER GET ANOTHER FORD.

We are the original owners of a Ford Windstar. In just the last month, in researching things for an additional minivan, I was surprised to find the 95 Windstar so poorly rated. Thru our 52,000 miles, Id say our ownership experience as been supurb overall. Part of that was a fine dealer that took care of the few, annoying minor bugs quickly and at no cost. They were: 1) A missing storage tray under the passenger seat upon delivery, 2) The ABS brake light turning on recall and, 3) The head gasket recall. Other than these things, our experience has been supurb.

  • The last Ford we will ever own - 1995 Ford Windstar

Transmission blew at 60,000 well maintained hiway miles. Engine blew from Ford admitted manufacuturer defect 1500 miles past recall. Ford corporate office actually has a phone bank of professionally trained people who will take 30 minutes to tell you to go to hell in the nicest way you have ever experienced. To bad such a beautifully designed vehicle has Ford garbage for guts. Our Toyotas go 200000+ miles. Guess what we bought to replace this?

If you are thinking about buying a Windstar, DONT. While the van was still under warranty, a computer chip went bad. It would have been several thousand dollars to fix if not for the warranty. The at 60,000 miles the transmission went. I dont know where all the radiator fluid goes that I put in. The dealer swears its not the head gasket. We have three friends that own Windstars from various model years and they ALL have transmission problems.

  • Oddball: Pleased with my Windstar - 1995 Ford Windstar

We bought this Windstar with 70K miles in Mid-97. It now has over 170K. We still get 21MPG, which I ck every time I refuel, and use it as a diagnostic alert, if it goes dn. We drive mostly in the hwy, since we live in the country. I do all minor maintenance such as tires/brakes/tuneups/oil chgs, etc. and I have not had any head gasket, transmission or brake problems. Everything still works fine! I am planning on trading it in for ANOTHER WINDSTAR pretty soon, though. I have been very pleased with it.

I bought this vehicle used, and did not notice that it already had a rebuilt transmission. The head gasket blew at 75000 miles, Ford fixed it, but I was still stranded with family. The van shakes terribly, and no one can diagnose problem. One mechanic said "I would sell it, probably another transmission" I now have 90,000 miles on it and it has left us stranded 3 times. If not for budget restraints, I would have traded a long time ago. Do not waste your money on this vehicle, go ahead and pay sticker for a Honda or Toyota.

  • Do not buy this car - 1995 Ford Windstar

Engine blew up 18 days after warranty expired. Ford knows this V6 is a lemon and is dodging responsibility.
