This Year's Model Updates:

This year, Ford introduces its version of the front-wheel-drive minivan. Designed to replace the archaic Aerostar, the Windstar offers a wealth of standard equipment. Dual airbags, antilock brakes, a four-speed automatic transmission and V6 power are just a few of the features included in the base price. The Windstar seats seven and has an integrated child seat: an attractive feature for the family with toddlers.

I bought our van with 40000 miles on it. At 50000 miles the tranny went out and then again at 100000 miles. I cant tell you how many times I have replaced the brakes. I will never buy another late model Ford in my life. We are going to trade it in on a Honda Pilot Next month.

Cute van, we thought, but the problems with the electricals (faulty warning lights, seatbelt and key tones etc) were endless. I stopped fixing them when the warranty expired. In the last year we replaced transmission, alternator, head gasket, and the brakes have worn down to the metal every year. We now drive a Honda, and will never go back to Ford.

Ive had many problems which include: Transmission problems, Head Gasket Replacement and continual Oxygen Sensor replacements ever since the Head Gaskets were replaced, Electrical Problems including windshield washer fluid not working, lights staying on and the related door ajar sounds it likes to make, etc... It has had brake problems and a surging engine problem. The sliding door fell off when it was opened all the way. Of course when it fell of it scratched the paint on the back quarter of the van. The most reliable component has been the check engine light which usually came back on within a week of having it out of my local Ford garage.

  • Better than Chevy - 1995 Ford Windstar

Traded an Astro van for my 95 Windstar. Windstar is better by far. More room, better comfort, handling and workmanship than Astro. No problems to date other than routine maint. Excellent for long trips. Pulls our camper with no problems.

Purchased this used and have gotten 110,000 miles from it. Comfortable ride, roomy - adding a fourth door on newer models definitely an improvement. Electrical problems, mostly with interior lights, warning bells, passenger window, have been numerous. I am now in need of a head gasket (last one was installed 2 years ago). Transmission still good. A/C and heating have been powerful, reliable.

This a good car for children and for the dealer. I have 120k on the car and have had all the major problems: transmissions @ 40k and 110k, head gasket leak @ 60k, warning lights, abs problems, etc. Fortunately, the car has never been found on the road dead. Also own 2000 model no problems yet @ 30k

We had a head gasket blow soon after we purchased this vehicle used. Four years later weve just recently had to have the transmission rebuilt and the head gasket has blown again. In addition to this there are minor problems all over the vehicle - inaccurate open door warnings, interior lights that wont turn off, seat adjustment knobs that work only sporadically, pieces of interior that have easily broken. Constant maintenance needed on brakes and drums.

First and last FORD"Found On Road Dead" term has come true. Constant engine problems, mostly head gaskets, on second engine and second rebuild. In shop now again for lack of power. Transmission rebuilt at 65,000, going bad again, AC worked on several times...I get hot about this marvel from FORD. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER ONE because the dealer / FORD does not want to fix it, they try to get me to buy another...no thanks, they dont get it!
