This Year's Model Updates:

The Windstar now has standard power-adjustable pedals and an optional rear-seat video entertainment center. There's also a new trim level called the Limited. Available midyear 2000, it will contain more standard features than the previously top-line SEL.

Pros:
  • Top-flight safety equipment and ratings, plenty of interior features and options, sonar backup warning system.
Cons:
  • Floaty ride, restricted legroom for second- and third-row passengers, noisy engine.

The Windstar handles very well. Its ABS system works rapidly and stops the van rapidly and safely. Steering is excellent with minimal effort on drivers part. Mirrors are easily adjustable from drivers side and enable driver to see the entire road behind the vehicle if properly adjusted. The two side doors are very convenient for someone who has to carry several soccer or baseball kids and there is ideal storage behind the rear seat.

  • Bring on #4 - 2000 Ford Windstar

This is my 3rd Windstar and I look forward to #4. I look at all the negative reviews and I wonder if these vehicles that are complained about are actually Windstars. Ive never had any major problems. As a matter of fact, my 1995 had only the head gasket recall (which would have been done even if it was out of Manufac. warranty)and nothing else. I traded it in with 140,000 miles on it and did nothing but that recall and routine maint. I would recommend this vehicle to anyone. Problems will ocurr with any vehicle you take a chance on buying....no matter the make. This van is my 12th Ford/Merc product and will keep coming back!!!!!!!!!

Got this vehicle from the used car lot at Courtsey in Tampa and in hopes to be fair( to what I have read to be a fairly decent vehicle), I will never buy a car from that dealership again much less a Ford. Problems from the word go. And too many mechanicle challanges with this vehicle with only 48K miles.

  • better buy the extended warranty - 2000 Ford Windstar

we have 50 k miles on our van, heres what we have replaced: transmission at 35k, brake sensor, heater, power steering twice, fuel regulator, transmission sensor, tailgate lifter?, lots of little stuff, and big stuff. Our extended warranty has paid for itself. Has a hard time staying aligned. Our service center is really good and helpful-thank goodness since we see them every other month. buy a Honda

  • Will never buy a Ford again - 2000 Ford Windstar

I have always bought an import car, but took my chances on the Windstar. Right out of warranty (36,900 miles) I had to replace the manifold. 4 months later at 39,000 miles I had to get a new transmission. I have a friend who has the same vehicle as mine and she is basically having the same problems.

  • No More Ford Vans for Me! - 2000 Ford Windstar

This car had no pick-up! Suspension was horrible. It ate oil. It had to be brought in for servicing several times because of recalls.

  • PROBLEM AFTER PROBLEM - 2000 Ford Windstar

We have had it!!!! Problem after problem with this van and happy to say finished with it. Braking problems, air bag problems, exterior noise from the road is terrible, not a smooth ride and packaged with recall problem that never seems to get repaired despite several dealer attempts. If your considering this van DONT.

  • Not very impressed - 2000 Ford Windstar

At first I loved the van but then it started. 1st the back speakers started going out. Dealer said the pins just needed buffed. Next, check engine light started coming on & eventually going off. Now it goes on everyday after work. Another known problem w/ no resolution. I still have the speaker issue & 1000 miles after warranty, my trans went costing me $$. Mechanics claimed it was a common error and do not understand why Ford does not cover/recall on the issue.(not big enough issue to recall) I have learned to live with my problems. I am ready to buy a new van. I know my next van will not be a Ford (1st time in 15 years I have not bought Ford)

  • Not a good family vehicle - 2000 Ford Windstar

Replaced one ignition sensor at 1K miles replaced the steering pump at 19K miles the transmission stalls in cold whether when shifting from 2nd to 3rd sometimes the transmission does not shift from 2nd to 3rd so I have to turn the vehicle off, it looks like one sensor is not working (pay attention all of the ones that have had problems with the transmission) sliding doors "creek" when wet the A/C compressor was replaced at 37K miles the valves cover gasket started to leak at 10K miles sometimes the inside lights start to blink with no apparent reason (like a bad electrical contact).

  • Tranmissions Issues - 2000 Ford Windstar
    By -

Transmission went out without warning at 62000 miles. Ford service was horrible and not helpful in explaining why a car maintained regularly would have such a large failure at a relatively low milage for such components. Basically said since first time Ford buyer, we cant give you any assistance with product defect.
