Overview & Reviews
This year, Ford introduces its version of the front-wheel-drive minivan. Designed to replace the archaic Aerostar, the Windstar offers a wealth of standard equipment. Dual airbags, antilock brakes, a four-speed automatic transmission and V6 power are just a few of the features included in the base price. The Windstar seats seven and has an integrated child seat: an attractive feature for the family with toddlers.

Windstars Blow Their Head Gaskets - 1995 Ford Windstar
By James Muecke - April 15 - 2:00 amThere are NINE factory recalls for this Windstar. An internet search can lead to graphs showing the EXTREME rate of Head Gasket failure for the Windstar. The 3.8 is the worst engine by several magnitudes of failure over all other engines. This engine will blow its head gaskets because of the interaction of THREE design failures. Repaired engines will blow their head gaskets again. When replacing the head gaskets most techs will opt to drop the engine to avoid damaging the air conditioning. This car also blows its transmission because of a design failure using an aluminum hydraulic piston that cracks. I deeply regret having bought this van.

Ford headgaskets Blow - 1995 Ford Windstar
By stacey - April 2 - 2:00 amI have had 2 Ford vans and have had head gasket problems with both of them. I replaced Head gaskets on the first one 3 times, then traded it in. I was assured at the dealership that it was a fluke and that ford vans were built well. I foolishly purchased my 2nd ford windstar and have replaced head gaskets on this vehicle 5 times. The first 3 times were under warranty, the 3rd time I was reimbursed partially, as a recall issue. Ford extended the warranty as "good faith" to 100,000 miles or 7 years, but failed to mention that the warranty was only good for 1 time. When my head gaskets failed again, I was told my warranty was only good for 1 time under the extension.

1995 Ford Windstar GL 3.8L - 1995 Ford Windstar
By Sheldon - March 25 - 2:00 amTransmission will require overhaul or replacement at some point after 65K miles due to weak aluminum forward clutch piston. This 3.8L engine is well known for timing cover/headgasket failure. Both of these are serious and costly repair issues that Ford could have engineered out.

A lemon at every turn - 1995 Ford Windstar
By cdjamison - January 5 - 12:13 pmWe purchased this vehicle used - a lease return with 40,000 miles. It needed a new transmission at 50,000, the head gasket went at 70,000 (this was covered under warranty, but was in the shop for a month), the main wiring harness caught on fire at 90,000 (this had been replaced under a recall before we purchased the van), and the list goes on. Weve averaged $1,000/yr in repairs on this vehicle. Dont buy a 95 Windstar!!!
