Overview & Reviews

- Commodious and ergonomically correct.
- Swoopy styling and fish-faced snout leaves us cold.

98 Taurus - more than just a Hertz renta - 1998 Ford Taurus
By Ray Bennett - August 5 - 2:00 amMy 1998 Taurus has seen an unusual combination of highway and city mileage since I bought it (new). The V6 has plenty of pick up and it cruises nicely. The ride is above average, although there is less road noise in the newer models (I travel and rent a lot). ONLY problem has been that once I changed the factory brakes, we went through pads like crazy. Just went back to factory, and now its fine. The paint wears well, and the vehicle, when clean, always surprises me with that "new" look. 75,000 miles and counting. Handles well, with just a touch of body roll - but keeping good tires on it keeps it fun to drive.

Great Car - 1998 Ford Taurus
By Baldone - July 24 - 2:00 amI have owned this car for 4 years now and love it. Great ride, roomy, smooth, great fuel consumption for a large car on the highway. The only problem is the front brakes. I had to replace them at 20000 miles due to warping. I changed them to Power stop cross cut drilled rotors with 911 brake pads and have been happy ever since. I actually stop better now than before. I also added goodyear eagle ga h rated tires and found the ride bumpier but the handling improve greatly. If you want the smooth ride of a touring car, dont add performance tires. All in all though, I love the car and am going to keep it for many years to come.

A Beamer for Beer Money - 1998 Ford Taurus
By Tekkie79 - June 4 - 2:00 amGood for those of us who want a good performing sedan but dont want to put out all the money for a real one. Had very few problems but it wouldve been expensive to repair had it not been for the warranty. The leather is horrible.

Junk Transmission - 1998 Ford Taurus
By Frank735 - May 27 - 2:00 amNice engine, terrible transmission. I have had aproblem with the trans since day one. Dealer said it was fine and now it has to be replaced. 88K and a new trans? The rest of the car is fine, basic transportation, no frills, no thrills. I almost forgot the power steering goes out after extended highway driving. Dealer comment "We cant see anything wrong". Ha!

Great Car - 1998 Ford Taurus
By Brad Billmaier - March 26 - 2:00 amI currently own a 1995 Taurus SHO. The last of the "true" SHOs. I enjoy the car, but i dont need a manual transaxle in a sports sedan. if i wanted to run the gears myself id buy a SPORTS CAR. Thats why im looking into the 3rd Generation SHO. They look great, perform good, and there is nothing like rolling up on an unsuspecting 5.SLOW and SHOing them the dual oval pipes out back.

Fair Taurus - 1998 Ford Taurus
By Nehemiah - March 22 - 2:00 amI am happy with my Taurus. Its the SE-standard. The car damatically changed when I equipped it with Bridgestone Potenza RE-710 245/55 on the four corners. The handling improved lightyears.

Looks like an SHO - 1998 Ford Taurus
By snaptab - February 12 - 12:45 amGreat 24 valve V6, good acceleration and handling, good interior room and comfort, good exterior appearence, mediocre A/T performance, unexceptional gas mileage, questionable long-term reliability, poor front disc rotor/pad wear. Overall I would recommend, especially at the price. Looks as good as an SHO.
