  • Fix Or Repair Daily is this cars Motto - 1998 Ford Taurus

Electrical problems, driver door lock pops back up, brakes, brakes and more brakes. Heater core flushed three times in year and 1/2, then isnt that warm a week or so later, new sensor for speedometer to make it shift, new blower motor for heater and actuator door, brake line repairs, after all this, air compressor gone, no air. I cant remember the rest. Cup holders poor. Car drives good if you can afford the rest of the weekly maintenance.

  • Shes comin undone! - 1998 Ford Taurus

Bought this car used with 67000km on it. Heater has never worked properly core is perpetually plugged up. Discovered that if you pull the heater tubes off at the fire wall and flush it at that point- it works like a charm! Problem with overheating in summer, dashboard and indicator lights burnt out quickly, the console is just weird! But lots of room and plenty of get up and go. Door sensors are always broken. Headlights are very dim

  • Never Again - 1998 Ford Taurus

I have always had faith in Taurus until this one. I have put less than 10K on this car and more than $2K into in in less than one year. Now, service engine light on and probably another $1K bill. Already had transmission rebuilt at 80,000 miles, had freeze out plugs replaced (low cost part) high labor job $1200 for that job. After 4 months had to replace all sway link bars (twenty years of driving never heard of them), I do oil changes regularly. Brake design and trans stinks as we all know. Owned the car less than 1.5 years and I can say this is the worst car I ever owned. I got more use/mileage out of a $200 1994 Ford Taurus. A lot of people have had heat issues, my turn Im sure.

  • Hunk O Junk - 1998 Ford Taurus

Since buying the Taurus, weve had tires blow out, the alternator died while we were on vacation, the alternator pulley was locked up, we had to replace the power steering pump, and now the transmission is a load of crap. This car has been more trouble than its worth. Its been well used, and if I didnt still owe 1400 on it, Id just junk it and get it over with.

Have owned a 1991 Taurus wagon before and a 1989 SHO before. Both got better gas milage. This has the standard 12 valve pushrod engine. In town average 16 mpg and on the highway 23. I have fixed 4 problems that came with the car. 1) Power Antenna-cable broke inside drum motor. $18.50 part-my labor 2-1/2 hours 2) Cruise control-Broken plastic ball that holds cable to speed control. 20 cents(4 zip ties) 5 minutes 3) Door ajar light staying & on power door locks poping back up- WD 40, 20 cents worth- 5 minutes. Spray in the door switch plates located in the end of each door. 4)Hood latch sticks-hood wont open lubricate and reattach cable. Bought cheap

  • Let there be HEAT! - 1998 Ford Taurus
    By -

I have owned my car for three years now and for each year I have not had any heat, I have done work on the car to fix and it still wont work without changing the heater core. I have also had to change the battery twice and the alternator once. I changed my brakes and rotors twice and I am not a speed demon either, the upholstery falls apart and the car just is overall not a good buy! Dont Buy!

  • not a good winter car! - 1998 Ford Taurus
    By -

So I bought my car from my uncle and it had all the maintenance ever needed done to it, and, well it does not have heat, I have flushed the thing out three times in three years and and still no heat - they say that they are notorious for clogging the heating coil, what a waste to buy if there is no heat. It costs too much to get the heater coil replaced and if you live where there is snow in the winter time, this is a Danger Warning, do not buy if you dont like sitting and waiting a half hour before going anywhere to defrost your front window, I get about 15 MPG and this is all at about 112,000 miles. Good luck if you own one.

  • Electrical Gremlins - 1998 Ford Taurus
    By -

Way too many electrical gremlins to list. (Well, lets try anyway: daytime running lights that wont shut off without pulling a fuse, headlights that go from dim to bright at random, electric windows that randomly work, dome light that goes on and off at random, trunk light that goes on and off at random, power locks that suddenly lock or unlock at random....). Transmission is starting to go at 100K miles - at least it has lasted longer than average. Gas mileage stinks - 15 city, 16 highway. Engine knocks badly on regular unleaded. The cupholders wont hold your cup going around corners.

  • Junk - 1998 Ford Taurus

This car is the biggest piece of junk I have ever owned and I have had a lot of $25 cars in my younger years. This is the worst,I paid $8995 for it 3 1/2 yrs ago and the car is the gift that just keeps on taking. Appx cost of ownership per year is about $5,000 in repairs not counting the car payments. My wife says she is very happy we got this car due to the fact that it forced her to go back to work. (She was missing the workplace alot!) So thank you Ford for Making Quality Job One!
