This Year's Model Updates:

2001 Ford Mustang GT models get unique hood and side scoops, so that you can tell 'em apart from V6 models. They also receive standard 17-inch wheels, and V6 Convertibles get 16-inch wheels as standard. All cars have a revised center console and blacked-out headlights and spoilers. The Mach 460 stereo system comes with an in-dash six-disc CD changer. A new "premium" trim line is created for both V6 and V8 models. After a one-year hiatus, the Ford SVT Mustang Cobra returns for 2001.

Pros:
  • Strong V8 power, competent chassis and brakes, good crash test scores, ragtop option.
Cons:
  • Solid rear axle, dorky-looking fake hood and side scoops, poor stereo ergonomics.

  • Good so far - 2001 Ford Mustang

The car is fun to drive. Very different from the other cars in its class. Its very crude and unrefined. But you get a totally different kind of experience driving this. The exhaust sounds great. It is a little hard to shift with the manual transmission and it grinds when I try to put it in reverse gear after starting it. Other than that, it has been pretty reliable.

Im gonna start off by saying I love this car. It was my first sports car and I miss it very much. Its underpowered unfortunatly. For some reason Ford managed to get only 192 horsepower out of a 3.8 liter V6. It oversteers tremendously and driving it in rain or snow is a funny joke. Its just something about driving a Mustang that is just amazing.

All this car has gave me is troubles. I thought a Cobra can be floored once an awhile? But all it did was crack the head, gasket leak, and throttle body defects. I had to take it back to the dealer which gladely fixed it but for me to come back. I would say it has kick ass power, but lacks the quality I paid for it.

I had been shopping around for convertibles and one day I happened to stumble upon this one. Im glad I went with this car because it was probably the best convertible with a decent amount of performance Ive come across for my price range. I have an automatic model and prefer a manual transmission but because this car is so much fun to drive and its my daily driver, I dont mind not having control of the gears. Ive only had the car for less than a week and bought it with 86000 miles so I cant say much about reliability. It eats gas up in the city but you have to kind of expect that from a V8.

Bought her in APR of02. The stock power grabbed ahold of me and never let go. Didnt lose a race. I have installed started to up grade. K&N FIPK,75mm throttle body/upper plenum, long tube heders with high flow cats, Flow master cat back,4.10 gears, Hypertech power programmer and Micky Thompsons for the track. This season I have installed a tower strut brace and sub frame braces. For the street I run Good Year 245/45 ZR17 in. tires mounted on Replica BLT 17x9 chrome wheels. I just bought a Gtech performance meter to tell me my actual HP. Ive done some paper calcs. and it was above 300 HP, pretty good for just bolt on mods. Not bad since she started at 260. I love her, my wife gets jealous.

Bought the car in December 2007. Drove it 2.5 hours to get it home. Hated to stop driving it. Its a blast to drive. Had several people pull even with me on the interstate to check it out.The dark highland green color is beautiful. I think I found my second childhood.

Well I bought the Cobra hoping to have a fun and fast sports car with only normal maintenance required. Boy was I wrong. The brakes squeal constantly. I bought the car from waldorf ford who refuses to honor my warranty or any of the arrangments made by the SVTOA. The squeal is ridiculous. Also the exhaust system was leaking CO2 into the cabin of my car.I am very disappionted not only in the car, but in ford in general.

Most people are unaware that there even is such a vehicle, and if they are aware most still dont "get it." Well I got it, I "get it" and I love it. No its not a Cobra but it handles superbly, it looks and sounds great. Its not necessarily a performance statement but more of an era statement. The subtle, no spoiler, no stripes, no unnecessary frills looks are excellent.

I havent had it for that long but the car is just awesome. Gets off the line real quick. Also, once it hits 2nd and 3rd gear the car just takes off. Rides smooth and no complaints at all so far.

  • My 2001 Cobra is a total POS! - 2001 Ford Mustang

First of all, do not buy a 2001 SVT Ford Mustang Cobra. The car has a bad knock/ping. The ping has been there since day one and Ford will not fix it. They put out an official statement that says pinging is normal. My car dynoed below Fords acceptable HP and torque figures and has been in the shop for over 30 days of unscheduled maintenance in a year and a half. The transmission was replaced at 3,000 miles. The list goes on and on. Myself and my family will never buy a Ford product again. This includes any company that Ford owns, such as Mazda, Jaguar, etc. Ford, you sold me the worst car that I have ever owned and you do not honor warranties.
