This Year's Model Updates:

2001 Ford Mustang GT models get unique hood and side scoops, so that you can tell 'em apart from V6 models. They also receive standard 17-inch wheels, and V6 Convertibles get 16-inch wheels as standard. All cars have a revised center console and blacked-out headlights and spoilers. The Mach 460 stereo system comes with an in-dash six-disc CD changer. A new "premium" trim line is created for both V6 and V8 models. After a one-year hiatus, the Ford SVT Mustang Cobra returns for 2001.

Pros:
  • Strong V8 power, competent chassis and brakes, good crash test scores, ragtop option.
Cons:
  • Solid rear axle, dorky-looking fake hood and side scoops, poor stereo ergonomics.

This car looks mean, handles great, and turns heads every day. Deffinately worth spending your money on. Its never a boring drive, and doesnt draw too much attention from the authorities. I love to turn off the traction control! I went toe to toe with an SRT 8 and stayed right up there up to 120 mph and didnt lose an inch.

I have had my gt for one year and have 20,000 miles. Problems: crossmember and transmission mount loose. Clicking noise when turning right turns from front left wheel. Engine knock noted and last but not least, engine starts and cuts off shortly. To be diagnosed at the dealer for the third time.

This is a very fun car. Interior in the 2001 Cobra is better than any other factory Mustang. I love the leather/suede seating surfaces. The 6- disc in-dash CD player is great...much better than having the changer in the trunk or taking up armrest space. The only problem Ive had is that the shift from 1st to 2nd would stick. The dealer replaced the whole transmission under warranty within 5 days.

This car was just a blast to drive. Had many compliments on style and performance. I would buy another one without hesitation. Want to buy the new style GT

This car is in my top 3 of cars I have ever owned. Didnt want to pay the extra insurance or worse gas mileage so I went for the 3.8 V6. I was worried it would be a wimp, not a chance. Rivals the power I have in my V8 Grand Marquis! Handled great on corners. Got 26 MPG consistently! Sold at 78k and never had a repair!

This is a 2001 GT convertible, 5 speed that I purchased new at the end of the model year. Currently have 8000 miles on the car with no real problems. All driving has been commuting in Phoenix area and MPG is 18-20. Havent taken any extended trips yet but expect highway mileage to be better. Fuel tank size kind of limits range but it would probably be a major task to re size it on a design this old.

I have owned one for over a year and am pleased. They are "finiky" and require a close eye (oil level) but seem to have a solid base. I am proud to be one of the few SVT owners! andrew

  • Best car Ive ever owned! - 2001 Ford Mustang

Ive only had it for a few months now but I can honestly say its by far my favorite car. Its luxurious and sporty at the same time, while still living up to its muscle car reputation. Very comfortable seats and great overall design. I get compliments everywhere I go. With 260 horsepower and so many aftermarket options, this car is great for both everyday driving and taking to the track. This car is an American classic and once you drive one youll understand why. Its a must have! I highly recommend this car to anyone who wants the best of both worlds in an automobile.

  • Good car for the money - 2001 Ford Mustang

I have had this car for over a year now and I love it. It is fun to drive and gets respectable gas mileage for what it is. However, I have had several non-engine related mechanical issues. I have had to replace all 4 power windows this year, and my Mach CD player broke and is expensive to fix. I have also had to fix the power window switch. But the engine has been flawless. If you want a simple fun convertible, I highly recommend this car.
