Overview & Reviews
Lower-line V6 models get standard 16-inch alloy wheels and a new hood while losing the fake side scoops. Premium models can be equipped with a Mach 1000 audio system. Both this system and the Mach 460 get speed-sensitive volume. Later this year, an MP3 player will be available. Performance Red paint is replaced with Torch Red.
- Strong V8 power with GT, fun to drive, appealing all-American style, good crash-test scores, ragtop option.
- Solid rear axle, excessive gingerbread detailing on GT, poor stereo ergonomics, flaccid seats.

I trust over any new car. - 2002 Ford Mustang
By mommame - November 19 - 5:59 pmI had a new car and had so many problems. Hard to work and picture it being a throw away car like some. I decided to go backwards to a 2002 V6 that reminds me more of the days a person could work on a car..HAHAHA There are some people who have these cars and they are over 200,000 miles. When you buy something at this age remember it may need a couple things. Dont gripe about it. Do your homework. Some people beat the Hell out of them. I happen to get mine from an older man in his 60s who took care of it.

Great Daily Drive - 2002 Ford Mustang
By scott221 - June 25 - 10:26 pmI finally dont need a family car and bought an 02 GT with 100K miles at age 50. It needed a little TLC. I added a radio, new COPs, a gear shift knob, + more. I love this car. I get better than 27mpg on the highway and 23-24 combined. The engine is smooth and has a higher power-to-weight ratio than any car or truck I have had. It took me a couple of months to tame this Pony. I changed the real seals, bearings, left axle, and c-clips. One c-clip broke and ground up inside the left axle causing that bearing to fail. The car is definitely a sports car. I have a Flowmaster catback and Nexen 3000 tires with Bullet rims. Other drivers taunt me on the road. I just smile and enjoy.

Beastly, Rock Solid, and Efficient - 2002 Ford Mustang
By blackmetalwolf - June 3 - 10:01 pmIve had experience driving all sorts of vehicles, and I can say without a doubt that my 2002 Ford Mustang GT is among the best of the best in almost all categories. For starters, its a Mustang, an American icon. Now take that image, add 260 stock horsepower and youve got a beast of a car. Not only is it powerful, it gets surprisingly great mileage mine is getting roughly 26 mpg highway. The thing is also built like a tank I havent had any mechanical issues other than routine maintenance. The only issues are low seating capacity and cargo room, but hey, you dont get a Mustang in place of an SUV, do you?

Great First Car - 2002 Ford Mustang
By stanggt915 - January 30 - 11:35 amThis is such a cool car! A perfect blend of everything. Great styling, very reliable, comfy, big sound system, cool wheels, high modding potential, and it is quite quick. With the new Borla exhaust I added it now has incredible muscle car sound! For my first car I would have it no other way.

02 GT convertible Good & Bad.... For 2012 - 2002 Ford Mustang
By flashycarluv - July 26 - 10:37 amive had the car for almost 2 years and have had 3 engines in it., Driver window fail, fuel pump failed, CD player failed and the transmission has small leak. i love the car& dont really plan on ever selling. but its not recommended for a daily driver, its not very reliable but its 10+ years old. But for a fun top down weekend warrior its great. and its idea for customization. I know more than 10 people with the same style mustang GT, and they have problems too, but still love them. if you buy one I recommend having $2-3k set aside for future repairs. MPG isnt great either I average 15MPG combined... But it works for me because I only drive the car maybe once a month.

Dream Car - 2002 Ford Mustang
By fordmustang_27 - April 21 - 8:05 pmSimple put iv wanted this car since i was ten years ole. A couple months before i was old enough to drive i finally bought her. I got a 2002 mustang gt 5 speed manuel. Its a beatiful shade of red that goes perfectly with the edgy body style it boosts. I bought her with 62,000 miles. In the 4 months I had her i already dropped 3 grand into her with tasteful modifications. i put slp headers, bassani cat back which sounds awesome. tint in the back and chrome salean 5 star lug wheels. Also a couple other chrome accesories and looks sick as hell. Car turns heads everywhere i go. I get so much attention for it and i love her. sound system sounds good and performance is great. Great car.

Fun Drive - 2002 Ford Mustang
By Robby - November 3 - 2:00 amI previously owned a 02 6cyl mustang and bought an 02 8 cyl mustang with the 5-speed transmission about a year after selling my 6 cyl. I got it when it had around 100,000 miles and have performed only routine maintenance in 10,000 miles. I was told it had the clutch replaced right before I bought it. I would recommend getting the 8cyl if you have the opportunity as it has been much more fun to drive. The trim was better shape than I would have expected for 100,000 miles. No leaks or rattles however my steering wheel and gear shifter were badly worn. Im not sure if this was from the previous owner or if this is common. Mach 460 Stereo has great sound. Drivers seat is also comfortable.

Great Choice - 2002 Ford Mustang
By Florida Girl - October 5 - 2:00 amBought this car used in 2006 with only 24,xxx miles on it. Now there are 92,xxx and it is still amazing. I have only had one issue besides the routine things (oil change, brakes, etc) and that was the alternator. I had bought the extended warranty thus even that was covered. I chose this car for its 5 star crash rating, the powerful engine (use to have a 4 cylinder), nice under hood layout, and, of course, looks. It is a mustang after all. Only issues I have with the car is the poor gas mileage and the not so smooth ride.

192,000 miles and still strong - 2002 Ford Mustang
By Texas Pete - July 30 - 9:32 pmI bought this car new in 02 at a dealership where I worked as a tech. I have put 192k miles on this car with regular maintenance and a few performance tweaks. I still get 25 mpg with a 3.73 rear end gear and a five speed manual. The engine is as strong as when it was new. The only parts that failed outside of normal wear was the 6CD changer (twice) and the brake hydroboost unit which was still under warranty at the time. It has always been a solid, predictable performer. This is a sports car. It rides, handles, and acts like a sports car. It is not a dragster or a luxury boat. Long trips will hurt passengers.

Jar your spine - 2002 Ford Mustang
By RMFL - April 11 - 4:13 pmMy husband bought this car for me to replace my tired Mazda 626. The 626 was very well-equipped, so the Mustang falls short on a number of "extras". The biggest problem is the hard ride. Its fine on smooth pavement, but who has that to drive on any more? The clutch is also extremely tricky. I am accustomed to driving various vehicles with standard transmissions, but mastering this one is very difficult. My spouse has the same problem. I love the look of the car, but have had to equip the drivers seat with a hospital-quality wheelchair seat cushion to avoid having a splitting pain in my neck when driving.
